    2019 Football Offers/Commits

This guy Collier claims we beat out P5 schools for this German kid. That’s encouraging. Collier is the founder of the recruiting service that this kid was working with, so hopefully the info in his tweets is objective & truthful

    2019 Football Offers/Commits

We’ve offered a 15-year old Euro kid, for the class of 2022.
  3. I’d be surprised if Tunstall isn’t back. I would assume he wants to play another year. If that’s the case, he’s not going to be a grad transfer at a school on a higher level, I wouldn’t think. Plus, he’s presumably comfortable here & knows he’ll get lots of minutes next year. Sanders, who knows? He’s not moving up to a bigger program as a grad transfer, assuming he’s even going to graduate before the fall. Guess he could go to a smaller program, to try to pad his stats.
  4. Timberlake & Gray are like 2 new recruits. Add in a real PG & 2 guard or small forward who can score. Dare to dream
  5. We didn’t win the Battle of the Boardwalk 🙄
  6. Mat, without naming names as to who might be leaving, do you have it on good authority that someone else (or more than 1) is leaving?
  7. Selcuk, Thomas & McNeil =3 departing Thomas (the kid from St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes HS in NOVA) = 1 incoming. That would appear to leave 2. What am I missing?
  8. I hate to say this, but when Betrand has the ball, I cringe, because I expect an Ill-advised drive or an outside shot that doinks of the rim. At least he tries an outside shot occasionally, unlike Dottin, whose offensive repertoire consists entirely of driving into the lane, usually with no good idea what he’s going to do once he gets there. No sense in getting riled up about McNeil at this point, seeing as he only has 6 games left in his TU career. I’ve said it a million times now...PS desperately needs to nail the 2 open ships for next season with a legit PG & the 2nd guy being a scorer, regardless of what position he plays.
  9. Here’s how we’ve ranked in the conference in points per game under Skerry: last in 2011 4th in 2012 3rd in 2013 8th in 2014 7th in 2015 6th in 2016 4th in 2017 last in 2018 2012 & 2013 we had Benimon. Absent those two seasons, we’ve never finished higher than 4th. In the other 5 seasons we’ve finished in the bottom half of scoring, including last twice. (You needn’t remind me one of those years was 2011). Maybe we need some better shooters?

    Hoops Thoughts

You nailed this post. I’ve posted stats recently that also show how bad our offense is. I just posted on another thread that except for Fobbs last night, we shot 15-51 from the field!! Not only is this brand of play not entertaining, it’s out of touch with how the game is played these days. The stats on our woeful 3-point shooting (in terms of how many we take, & the % we make) bears that out. Guys who play tough D & crash the boards have their place, but they need to be balanced with guys who can shoot & create shots on the offensive end. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over & expecting different results. I believe there needs to be a philosophical change in the type of players being brought in. I have resigned myself to accepting the fact that PS is here indefinitely. Nonetheless I do think, after 8 years, it is legitimate to question whether he’s plateaued & whether we’ll ever win the conference tournament under him (we’ve yet to win more than 1 game in any conference tournament in the PS era). I’m anxious to see what type of players he brings in to fill the 2 open scholarships that currently exist for next season.
  11. Just not enough options on offense. The entire team, not including Fobbs, shot 15-51 from the field last night, which is 30%. As Mat already pointed out, McNeil & Betrand shot a combined 1-13. Sanders shot 3-5, but only played 16 minutes because, as always, he got in foul trouble. Thomas & Tunstall play strong D, but you’re not going to get much O out of them. Solomon U isn’t doing much on offense either. Playing hard nosed D & crashing the boards is great, but there has to be more than 1 guy on offense who is a consistent scoring threat.

    2019 Basketball Offers

6’6 forward, currently averaging 13ppg & 7 rpg in JUCO. Averages 20 minutes a game. Shooting 52% from the field; 30% from 3. Spent freshman year at UTEP, where he played 18 minutes per game & averaged 7ppg & 4 rpg. Shot 48% from the field & 34% from 3.

    Wild day in CAA

W&M’s Nathan Knight goes for 39 points & 14 boards and, wait for it...W&M loses as Hofstra’s JWF drops 48 on the Tribe. So glad JWF will be playing for pay next season. NE beats Elon in OT; C of C holds on for dear life over Drexel & Delaware vs UNCW tonight. Although much can change between now & the end of the regular season, we are listed in the CAA standings as being in 6th place (thus avoiding the tournament play-in games). Imagine where we’d be if we hadn’t yakked leads on the road vs JMU, Drexel & C of C. Even if we had won just 1 of those games, we’d be .500 in conference play.

    Wild day in CAA

Out of curiosity, I just googled his stats. Career 39% shooter; only 37% from 3. His stats don’t live up to his reputation as a sharpshooter, though he was a great foul shooter.

    New TV Deal for CAA

Being the dullard that I am, I’m not sure I’m connecting the dots here. Is this a sarcastic dig at the commish for looking like a middle aged doofus “practicing” with C of C, when he should be working on a tv deal?

    Interesting team stats

With the season coming into the homestretch (only 6 regular season games left), we are: Last in the conference in scoring offense; 2nd to last in FT%; 3rd to last in FG%; 2nd to last in 3-pt FG%; Last in assists; Last in assists to TO ratio; and last in 3-pt FG’s made Frankly, it’s remarkable we’re currently as high as 6th place. I suppose if you’re a glass half full person, you could say we’re overachieving & PS is doing a good job with the materials he has. Or, if you’re a glass half empty person, you could say the PS offensive model of throw it up on the glass & grab a lot of offensive rebounds isn’t working & he needs to recruit better shooters/scorers

    Interesting team stats

If we’re down 1K fans a game from where we were just a few years ago, that’s basically a total drop of 13K over the whole season (1K per game X 13 home games). That has to translate to a real, tangible decrease in revenue. At $10 a head that’s $130,000. (I just picked $10 a head; maybe it’s less, maybe not). Is anyone in administration paying any attention to this? Buehler, Buehler?

    Interesting team stats

Interesting. Forgive me if I sound like I’m bashing PS, but this yearly decline suggests that potential fans view the program as being in a rut, along with the often joyless product on the court. Let’s face it, it is sometimes difficult to watch PS teams struggle to shoot & to fight, scratch and claw to get to 60 points. I took a guest to the game yesterday, and it was quite evident the style of play (of both teams) was acting as a drag on his desire to attend future games. He even (correctly as it turned out) said at one point “1st team to 60 wins.”

    Interesting team stats

One factor I forgot: unimaginative marketing

    Interesting team stats

Average home attendance last year was 1,564. Many factors in play: lack of big name home opponents, competition for the hearts & minds of fans, very apathetic students, & the product on the floor. At the risk of being pessimistic, unless we become a consistent top-tier conference team, which goes dancing 🕺 every now and then, I can’t see us climbing above 1,500 per game. Even then, I think the ceiling is probably 2K or so.

    Interesting team stats

Fwiw, the schools with the worst attendance (TU, NE & Drexel) are all in major metropolitan areas with professional sports teams. Meanwhile, the schools with the best attendance (C of C, UNCW & W&M) have no pro sports teams in close proximity
  22. TSU88

    Interesting team stats

Actually, we only average 1,278 per game at home. Only Drexel, at 1,212 a game, NE, at 1,105 a game, are worse. No other team in the conference averages less than 1,839 (Elon-with a new gym) per home game. 3 schools, C of C, UNCW & W&M, average 3X attendance per game as we do.
  23. Maybe they meant team and/or game MVP😆 Seriously, he deserves 2nd team all-conference. His scoring is more impressive given the lack of other scoring threats we have. I doubt there’s another team in the conference with only 1 player averaging double digits in scoring (Howard is close to, but not quite at, 10ppg). Last year when ZM averaged 19ppg, he had Morsell at 14ppg.
  24. There’s a “Rowe must go” thread on the JMU message board. Some want him gone before their new gym opens, whenever that is. Seems like SECU started a trend, with Elon & JMU. Wonder if any other CAA teams are getting new buildings?
  25. Next season Dottin should be backup PG & Howard should be backup 2 guard (though minutes could be at a premium, if Timberlake plays well & we bring in a guard in the upcoming recruiting class).
