At the risk of getting excoriated by 1 or 2 people on the board, this is the natural evolution of things. Kelsey stayed a few years at C of C, got them to the tournament 2X, used C of C as a lily pad to a bigger job. And C of C will simply go out and try to get the next Kelsey. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Earl Grant and Larranaga?

Keatts, Kelsey (if he actually gets the job). Who are the other two?

They wasted no time in going out and getting 2 D1 double digit scorers. Meanwhile, though it’s still early in the process, crickets 🦗 from us. Honestly, it’s still unclear whether we even have any roster spots open. A handful of players (no need to name them again) who should be moved on to open space, but not a word that anything has actually happened

He began his career at Oakland in 1984 (granted they were D2 at the time) and he was at the school for 21 years and they first made the Tourney in 2005. They have now made it 4 times in the last 20 years.
Jim Larranga was a head coach for 13 seasons (btwn Bowling Green and GM) before one of his teams first qualified for the Tourney. His GM team then made it to the Tourney 5 times in the next 13 seasons before he left for Miami.
James Jones of Yale, his first season was 99-00 and in his 17th season his team first qualified. His team has now made the Tourney 4 of the last 8 seasons.
In Pat's 13 seasons we have not yet made the Tourney, but that 2012-2013 team was good and I bet would have won the conference tournament had it not been for Pat Kennedy and the shit show we had in place before Skerry. For Skerry's 13 seasons at TU (including that first one) we've had a winning record 9 of 13 seasons. When we have good players they generally stay in the program and don't transfer out at the first opportunity. Moreover, this year we have two players on the all-rookie team.
What I'm trying to say is that good things come to those who wait. He's been putting a pretty consistent/competitive team out on the Court and our time will come. Skerry has made this team semi-relevant and he's the reason I actually care about TU sports again. (I graduated in 1999.) Let the man work and support the fucking team.
3 outlier examples out of hundreds upon hundreds of coaches.
Good things might come to an extremely small (see microscopic) group of coaches, but, with all due respect, that argument is weak tea. If you want to settle for 6-12 in the conference tournament, without ever having played in the title tournament game, god bless you. I’ve let the man work and support the F’ing team with yearly season tickets, TAF and NIL donor. If this is his best, his best ain’t good enough.
Good grief. “Good things come to those who wait”? That’s the defense of this guy? If I wait much longer, I’ll be watching from behind the pearly gates (I hope)
When does this ceaseless argument, from his small handful of supporters, about Pat Kennedy, have an expiration date!!!
Unbelievable

This should be the natural evolution of things. Young up and comer has success at a mid-major, which he parlays into bigger job, but leaves the mid-major in a position to sustain success with a replacement up and comer. Somehow, this recipe didn’t work with Skerry. No coach who’s never even been to his conference tournament final should be entering year 14 at the same school, but I’m beating a dead horse here

Pat Skerry takes Towson to the NCAA Tournament or Pete Shinnick gets Towson back to the FCS National Championship Game?
Is there a 3rd choice?

Maybe. Only a 38% overall from the field, but a great FT shooter. 3 APG. Small, I’ll assume he’s quick. I’m guessing he’s in the portal?

Dubar, not Dubai

UNCW: Nick Farrar, Eric van der HeijdenDubar is going to get huge bucks on the open market. Hofstra losing Thomas (I think he’s out of eligibility) and Dubar. You would think that’s a big deal, but knowing Hofstra, they’ll just reload with a couple more 20ppg guys

Indiana State had a net of 29 and no go.
We are all old and have seen the slights through the years but what a suck fest on the Mountain West and to see 2 of their 6 teams in Dayton is truly laughable.
All I’ve got to say is Roll Tide!!!

42 minutes ago, Chris Datres said:That would be correct. Columbia & Dartmouth have only had 8 years of Ivy League Tournaments in order to get to the championship round. All the others have had plenty of time.
Well, Army is a service academy; Citadel is a quasi service academy and Rice probably is hamstrung by high academic standards. So you could say that from 1991 (when we last made the tournament) to now, a span of 33 years, we, along with UMES, UMKC and UNH, are the most inept programs in D1, of those who have been in D1 since 1991 or longer. (Inept in terms of getting to their conference championship game)
It also bears noting that at least 20 (give or take) of the programs you listed, who have never been to the tournament, were not even in D1 in 1991.
Additionally, your list doesn’t account for the converse-schools that have been to the tournament more recently than us, who weren’t D1 members in 1991

17 minutes ago, Chris Datres said:Here's the list. The ones in bold have also not been to a conference championship game since the last time we were in one. The ones with asterisks are those who are D1 veterans and never been or have droughts longer than us:
Army** Bethune Cookman** Bowling Green** Brown**
Cal Baptist Central Arkansas Chicago State** Citadel**
Columbia** Dartmouth** Denver
Elon Fort Wayne High Point
Houston Christian Idaho** Idaho State** Incarnate Word
Jacksonville** Kansas City** LA Tech** LeMoyne
Lindenwood Loyola Marymount** Maine** Marist**
Merrimack NJ Tech New Hampshire** North Alabama
Omaha Presbyterian Queens Quinnipiac
Rice** Sac State Sacred Heart Seattle**
SIU-Ed South Dakota Southern Indiana St. Thomas
Stonehill Tarleton State Tennessee Tech**
Texas A&M Commerce Toledo** UMASS-Lowell UC Riverside
VMI** USC Upstate UMES** UC San Diego
UT Martin UTRGV Utah Valley Western Illinois**
William & Mary** Youngstown State**
1st off, thanks for taking the time to do this research.
Now, if I understand it correctly, there are only 8 D1 programs (Army, Citadel, Columbia, Dartmouth, UMKC, UMES, NH, Rice) who were D1 the last time we went to the tournament, and either have never been to the tournament or have a longer tournament drought than us, coupled with not having been to their respective conference championship game since the last time we were in one?

You obviously picked up on my less than subtle hint for someone, other than me, to do that research 😆

1 minute ago, Chris Datres said:Congrats to Stetson, Grambling, and Duquesne for punching their tickets to the Dance. For the Hatters and Tigers, it's their first time. For the Dukes, first time since 1977. That now leaves 59 D1 teams who either have never been to the Tournament or have a longer drought than we do.
The last time Duquesne went, Norm Nixon was playing for them and Richard Nixon had only been out of the White House for about 2-3 years.
Be interesting to know how many of those 59 have been to the Tournament, but have a longer drought than us. As to the schools that have never been, I’m going to assume a number of them joined D1 subsequently to the last time we were in the tournament

There have been some nice comeback wins along the way, and I am sure the Pat supporters will post them (Hope you do!), but this is about the blown leads, close losses, almost had it, and what should have been.
From the last few regular seasons. ^^ (because we can't do asterisks on here!) is the highest % in the second half, not always at time of biggest lead.
CAA Tournament Losses (All 11) ^^ (Again no asterisks here!) Does Not Include 2020/2021 COVID Game. That was a blow out the entire game.
In our CAAT Games since Benimon we have scored:
56, 66, 67, 86, 72, 68, 56, 48, 62, 73, 66, 59, 82, 60, 69^ ^OT game, 62 in Regulation. More games under 57 then over 81... We can have the best defense around, but with scoring numbers like those, you aren't going to win multiple games many times.
Good grief, this is depressing. Now my case of Skerry Derangement Syndrome is acute. The only cure would be a new coach. I’m doomed

Oh I see UMass Lowell is playing Saturday for the America East bid.
This loss of ours is gonna stick around all off season and I’m gonna take my anger out on our coaches not the players.
He praised his assistants week in and week out for good scouts and then the idea of going with 4 guards late against UNCW.
He obviously relies on them a great deal so who takes the fall for the 13-1 run blunder?
When Nick Siriani kept his job he fired assistants. Can’t come back with same coaching staff for 2024-25. If no money then let an assistant go and replace him with a graduate assistant. These coaching staffs today run 7-8 deep.I’m not sure he’s going to make any changes, unless mandated to do so by the AD. Having said that, maybe he does it on his own, understanding that it might be in his own best interests, in terms of his desire for a lifetime contract

I still feel bad for scaring her, but towson basketball and Pat skerry warrant that reaction. Screams of disgust and terror! Ugh
You scared her one night; Skerry has horrified us in the conference tournament for 12 years. All things considered, you’ve gotten the worst end of the deal

Based on his stats, he’s either perennially injured, or just lousy at basketball. I propose a game of 1-on-1 between him and Chase Paar. Like in the old days of rasslin or roller derby, it would be a “loser leave town” match, no holds barred, with a television time limit. Imagine the income such a match would produce, if held at the arena formerly known as SECU, and also beamed around the globe via pay per view
