  1. we are going to have the tallest team in the CAA.  Once again though, we might be exposed at the guard level.  Remember when Kris Walden logged a zillion minutes as a freshman, only to end up transferring to smaller programs with zero minutes?  That was because we had no guards on the roster....

Does this guy play right away?  Looked at his stats, he likes to hoist 3s...If he can make them, imagine a 6 10 guy spreading the floor.

Thank god we have Gibson and Dottin, but that's not enough.   Is there anyone else that will handle the ball?

  2. I was thrilled with Waddell.  Best AD in the history of the school and had the right idea to cut Baseball and Soccer to funnel money into revenue producing sports.  I wish we could bring him back - also liked that he posted to CAAZONE under the name TUMarketing, very cool and shows his passion and that he gives a damn about what the fans have to say.  Accessible passionate and proud.  Give me that combination any day of the week.

  3. I should mention, even if we had a great faceoff guy, we would likely still be 0-6 since we can't do anything with the ball once we have it.  At one point we had 9 turnovers and 2 goals....

Man, we are a going to be a RPI killer for all of the good teams that play us this year.

  4. They are horrible this year. How does Nadelan not get a face off guy?  Lucky Woodall fell into his lap via transfer, outside of that I'm not aware of a good freshman FO guy that Nads has recruited.  Offense is awufl, boring, no speed, just passing around the perimeter or until we turn it over.  I watched part of it and never saw anyone beat their man.  Miss a guy like Drenner that was fast, could dish or create a shot.....

Also, how do you allow a team to go 23-23 in clears?  Nads was a hot name a few years ago, thinking not so much right now.

This team may win less games that the 2011 Basketball team...

  5. Please ask him about pressing at a press conference.  You can tell him that board keeps asking about it.  He recruits athletes, but he doesn't leverage their talents.  It's like buying a Ferrari and then putting a 55 mph speed governor on it.

I do agree the team is doing much better than when they started 0-3.  Something has changed on offense.  Much more pick and rolls, off-ball movement, give and go's.  This team is sharper on offense than they were a month ago.  Now if they could only run more and press from time to time, we've got a good chance to make a run this year.

I thought we played a good game.  Delaware seemed to get every loose ball, they got some long rebounds, they were red hot from 3, but we were in this game.  I had thought we would only win 4-5 conference games after we started 0-3, but think we have showed improvement throughout the year (that's a bit unusual for Skerry teams).  Lastly, props to Betrand.  He has been outstanding all year.  Tough as nails.  Great game - can drive, can create his own shot and can shoot it.  I'm really excited with him and Gibson together for at least 2 more years after this year.

It might be fortunate we didn’t play Coppin & Loyola this year. Which begs the question why we can’t get a guy like Kostelac at Loyola. All he does is score 20ppg, even though he doesn’t pass the eye test and doesn’t crash the boards. And I don’t want to hear he plays in the Patriot League. By my way of thinking, we’d be better off with some Patriot League type players. You know, guys with high basketball IQ’s who can shoot. God forbid we get such players

So true.  Or the guy that WM brought in...Or Lyles, that UMBC brought in a few years ago.  Why are guards (especially PGs) always an after thought w/ Skerry.  Last year after having nothing we desperately signed Gibson, late.  They had to do the same thing with Brian Starr (another whiff he was)......

  7. 5 assists.  No one had more than 1.  Coming into the game we were 316th in the country in assists, averaging 10.9 a game.  This is not being addressed in next years class either.  Skerry's recruting is becoming reckless and irresponsible, muck like PK's last class that featured Alex Giergen among other busts.

I feel as sour as i did under the PK tenure.  We are bad this year and next year we will be historically bad.

    3. You won't know until you try. Look at WM. They fired a coach who was head and shoulders more successful than Skerry. The old geezers in Williamsburg lost their shit. And yes, its early it year one, but a sort of no name, 3-5th choice is doing a good job there considering the blow back and mess left behind. (Yes Knight and a transfer helped, everyone else is essentially new) Skerry is  very fairly compensated MM coach.

WM is such an interesting comparison.  Seemingly should have hit rock bottom this year, but they bounced back incredibly well.  They were hit over the head with transfers and a new coach, worse in magnitude than our situation last year, and yet they look better than us.  I really liked their princeton style offense (back door, spread the ball, good spacing and a team full of 3 point shooters) under Shaver.  It's sobering that in a year we should have been 7 spaces in front of them, they are going to outperform us.

And we lose our two best offensive players this year to graduation at the end of the season......

They were hopeless this year and they turned it into a respectable situation.  Anyone think we can we can do that same next year w/o Fobbs and Sanders???

  9. i always liked Mike Waddell.  We were rock bottom when he took over....I remember his post around how much he hated the feeling of being a laughing stock come media day and how he was going to change that.  He tweeted.  He posted on this board.  He oozed with passion.  Wish we could bring him back......Guess he ruffled some feathers, but that's exactly what we needed.

Haven’t had a 1st team CAA player since 2013-14 season. 2013 just called & said Benimon ain’t coming back.

Moto I think made 2nd team. Not sure if Morsell did. Fobbs was pre-season 1st team, but is unlikely to actually be on the 1st team when it counts, at the end of the season.

Still haven’t won more than 1 game in any CAA conference tournament.

1 impact HS recruit-Morsell, who scored about 1,500 points, putting him in the top 10 in school history

Still waiting for a quality PG after 9 years

A revolving door of players who for one reason or another clang up one brick after another.

A half court “offense” which repeatedly devolves down to running the shot clock down to 5 seconds & throwing up a prayer.

Coming up small at the end of close games; games where we struggle to score 40 points.

    Have I left anything out?

Call it Groundhog Day, call it rinse, wash and repeat, call it insanity (doing the same thing over and over & expecting a different result). I call it dreck

You left out one other thing......We have not had a single player in the top 10 in assists since 2013, Jerrelle Benimon.  We've never had a single player average 3 assists or greater since then.  Our team leader in assists last year, Nakaye Sanders.  When Sanders and Fobbs leave, we will challenge some of our all time worst teams for offensive futility.....Also, have we had any players on the CAA all rookie team other than Hairston (did Morsell make it?)?

  11. where to begin....TSU88 and others have said it well, but i hate our style of offense (there is none).  In the comments, Skerry lamented the ball movement, but he does not recruit players that share the ball.  Outside of Jerome Hairston he has not landed a single guard that can break down a defense and share the ball.  Others have posted - have we ever finished in the TOP HALF of the CAA in assists under Skerry's tenure?  And Skerry set all types of assist records at Tufts....I just don't get it....

I absolutely hate his stubbornness.  A few examples:

    - Recruiting athletes:  We landed a 3 star recruit that is a sick athlete in next years class.  How about getting scorers.  The other two guys in the class seem really suspect.  Next year when Fobbs leaves we will be picked dead last in the CAA.  Who will score for us?   And then Skerry will give that dumb canned comment, "we trust our own eyes" as he continues to recruit folks that fit his mold.  Did he try to land Jarious Lyles when he left VCU to go to UMBC?  What a tremendous scorer he was.....Would Skerry have pursued Gary Neal?  Or does he not guard and rebound enough for Skerry?  How can he not see that his "style" is not working?  How about Usher a few years back that ended up at UD.  Was he not strong enough for Skerry?  Having complimentary players works, but having 12 guys with similar limited skill sets is a recipe for failure.

    - Not leveraging the skills of the athletes:  So we have guys who are strong, fast and can leap.  Yet we don't utilize their sklll set.  We lost to Buffalo as they pressed us relentlessly the last 2 minutes.  Why can't we EVER do that to another team?  We have the athletes and depth to do it.  Instead we run this dysfunctional offense where it simply doesn't matter much if you can run fast or jump high in our half court sets....

    - Hang up on toughness and strength:  I'm convinced that Skerry's hang up on being strong and tough messes with guys shots.  Gray is skinny.  Is Skerry messing up his shot by trying to make him into a linebacker?  Gray was an outstanding shooter at USD, why is he going bust with us?  We said this last year, but give me a few 98 pound weaklings that can score.  I think the reason that Gray is suffering is that we run that stagnant offense, without players that have a track record of sharing the ball, and no guard that can break down a defense, so Gray is not left open.  We had a similar issue with Four McGlynn.

Matt- I realize you shouldn't burn a bridge with Pat, but can someone with press credentials ask him when we will have a team that prioritizes assists and shooting?  Next year's recruiting class is AGAIN a major whiff in these categories.  What good will it do to change the lineup and bench Sanders?  Replace him w the offensively challenged (but strong and hard working, Skerry's only priorities) Thompson?

It would be wise of Skerry to bank much of his existing salary as he will be unemployable once his contract runs out unless he changes his ways.

I struggle more with Pat Skerry and the basketball team. We averaged 2,000 a game in the 1980's and played in a 1 bid league. 40 years later we still average 2,000 a game and play in a one bid league.  Basketball is cheaper to run and we play in a great high school basketball area(DC/Balto).

    I agree w this.
