  1. Enders was one of the greatest QBs in the history of the team - in my opinion much better than Flacco (better runner and passer).  He was way more than a game manager and I'm convinced that if he was on the team that played NDSU, we would have easily won that game.  That said, I get you point, and outside of Flacco, we brought in one dud after another at QB....And the freshman recruits at QB seemed like D3 talents to me....

See, here’s the thing, call what Skerry said a challenge, or what you will (maybe even a bit of an ultimatum, if you like), but, by my way of thinking, for him to really have any real leverage, he’s got to win the conference tournament come next March. If he does, then maybe he will have other options to explore, if he feels the program is not getting the support it needs. On the other hand, if we come up short again, I don’t see where he’s going to realistically find a place where the grass is greener.

Good for Skerry.  He's right.  We should invest heavily in hoops between TV rights, attendance, the $ associated with making the tournament, etc., this is the sport that needs to be prioritized within the university.  While it is probably not popular wihtin this board, I'd be fine with investing less in football & dropping baseball if it meant creating a sustainable hoops program.  I recall PK stating how underfunded the program was, making it nearly impossible for any coach to succeed.  I assume we invest more these days, but am not sure.  I think Skerry should have a ton of leverage- we were literally the worst D1 basketball program in the country for years (how many losing seasons in a row did we have?  shitty APR rates, scant attendance) and we ended the year close to top 50/60 in Net rankings.

There are many that come to mind but the greatest was beating Princeton in three overtimes in 1991 on the road to reach our first FF. Probably the greatest Towson event I’ve ever covered.

So many good ones.  For me it was beating Maryland in 2001, at College Park, in the quarter finals.  I was at the game and it was so tight throughout, but we couldn't get any possessions late in the game.  We had Justin Berry, who was like Alex Woodall on faceoffs, and were trailing by 1 late.  We scored to tie it and Berry won the ensuing faceoff, and the terps strategy was to concede the face off and harass the shit out of Berry to try and force a turnover.  He was sprinting back, out of control, and somehow had the vision to throw a hail mary, ~40 yard pass to a streaking Tiger up the sideline.  You could have heard a pin drop as the pass was in the air.  A tiger caught it in stride, we had a 2 on 1, and fed the ball to a wide open Kyle Campbell was camped in front of the goal to bury it, with seconds to go.  Was the greatest game I've been to and the comeback was nothing short of heroic.  And to do it in College Park made it that much sweeter!

Deserved. Absolutely outrageous numbers from Cajic this weekend. For those of you who don't fully understand volleyball statistics, hitting percentage is a stat commonly used to identify how effective an attacker is for their team. It reads just like a batting average, but is measured by the formula (Kills - Errors) / Total Attempts. If a player takes 10 swings, gets 5 kills, and makes 3 errors, her percentage will be .200. If she makes 3 kills and 5 errors, her percentage will be -.200. A negative percentage means you are hurting the team more than you are helping it. A good team will want their outside hitters hitting between .180-.280, their middles hitting between .300-.400, and their opposites hitting between .240-.340. Middles are always expected to have the highest hitting percentages, as they get fewer attempts and they don't have to deal with any out-of-system balls (ie. when the pass and set are not ideal).

So how good was Cajic this weekend? She had 43 attempts, made 2 errors, and had 32 kills. (32-2)/43, for a percentage of .698. An opposite who is consistently half as effective as Cajic was this weekend would be considered a generational player. For the season so far, Cajic has an efficiency of .442, the highest I have ever seen for a Towson pin hitter. She is currently fifth in the nation in this statistic, only behind four middles. Nina Cajic won't win CAA Player of the Year because Towson has too many other good attackers, so they don't have to rely on her as heavily as Delaware does on Lani Mason, or Elon does on Leah Daniel. But the fact is, she is the best offensive player in this conference, and she will be playing high-level professional volleyball once she leaves Towson.

Thanks for the continued explanations.  Remarkable performance and great to see the well earned recognition...

  5. The entire team is bad.  When is the last time we had a good OL?  The group we had under West was out of this world - that line put up more rushing yards against LSU than any other team they played that year.   It's been years since we had more sacks than our OL had given up (by a huge margin).. ...

I know the kids are trying, but it's a product that's unwatchable.  We were lucky to go 2-0 against a couple of bad teams - I don't see another W on the schedule this year.

I know you hate Piggy but this isn’t 2010. Take away the drops and he has over 250 yards passing. We desperately need a running qb behind that line.

Also, who was optimistic after that game? Just thought the offense played well in the second half. I have no expectations for this team but if I’m going to watch every game I want to see some excitement.

It's true.  If we don't have Piggy we are 0-2 right now, potentially staring down a winless season.  I think he's a solid QB

While everybody else is stressing out over football, I will go ahead and pour my thoughts out here. I just need to decompress a bit, and this space is as good as any.

As you all either know or will soon be finding out, Towson defeated #7 Pitt on the road this evening, 3-1 (25-12, 25-23, 16-25, 25-18). It was, without question, the best volleyball match Towson has ever played. Pitt may not be quite as good as they were last year (when they made the Final Four), but make no mistake: They are unquestionably a top 20 team at minimum, and they are the best team Towson has ever beaten. They already have wins this season over Hawaii, Texas A&M, Cincinnati, and BYU. But not Towson. And we didn't just beat them, either. We smoked them. They didn't even belong on the floor with us. It looked like we were the team that had just been to the Final Four. Yes, they played an awful match. I don't care. We made them play that way.

At just about every single position, Pitt is 3-4 inches taller than us. Our tallest player would be one of their shorter starters. Yet, right from the jump we played like we were the bigger team. We had 9 blocks in the first set alone. That is an unfathomable number for a team like Towson. Occasionally, a powerhouse like Nebraska will get like 12 blocks in a set against a bad mid-major team. Towson grabbing 9 in a set against Pitt? Unheard of. Over the course of the whole match, we out-blocked them 16-3, the final one coming on match point. We just looked, felt, and played big. Victoria Barrett is listed at 5'9". She's probably not even that tall. And yet, of all the offensive players on the floor, it was she who left her mark on the match. She attacked the ball 25 times this match. She scored on 16 of those, and only made 3 errors. 64% of the time that Barrett attacked the ball, it ended up on the floor on Pitt's side. For an outside hitter, that is crazy. Outside hitters usually have low hitting percentages (between 15-30%), as they are often put in disadvantages situations where scoring is highly improbable. Not Victoria, not tonight. It was a career-defining performance on a program-defining night, on the back of a win earlier today against American that we would have considered program-defining 5 years ago.

Of course, the whole season won't be like this. This Towson team is good, but we're not THAT good. We're not a top 10 team. We will not make the Final Four, we will probably not make the Sweet 16, and just making the tournament again would constitute a successful season for us. For now, this win doesn't mean all that much. The American match was more indicative of how our season will be (3 tight and nervy sets against a strong mid-major). But maybe, just maybe, it'll make a couple more people in the volleyball world say "oh yeah, I hear they're pretty good" when somebody brings up Towson. Maybe it'll make just a few more people show up for home games this year. Maybe it'll makes us get just one more good recruit that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. It feels like the culmination of something. But maybe, just maybe, it's the start of something instead. What a day to be a Tiger.

simply outstanding.  thanks for representing the university so well, what a remarkable series of seasons volleyball has put together!

  8. The team looked bad.  I'd like to think the defense played well, but Bucknell was awful last year.  What a boring offense.  This team reminded me of 2011-2012 Towson basketball - unwatchable.  It's going to be a long year....

Glad lacrosse and hoops are not too far off.

Also... I will concur on the change of announcers. Sprio is a great guy - love him for the weekly shows but for the games, atleast pair him up with a younger maybe more traditional announcer type, less hom-ey.

Disagree- Spiro is a treasure.  Give me his passion all day long!  Love listening to him...

  10. So this guy got another offer, from Lynchburg University, which is D3, and he called it his third D2 offer.  Did we seriously offer this guy?  If so it has to be for a walk-on.  And based on his tweets, he seems completely clueless.

Not every day the regular season CAA Champ (and team w/ 3 All-CAA performers) competes with D3 & D2 teams.....WTF
