I appreciate your thoughts regarding building a program that is solid beyond the goal of conference championship. You talk about strong foundations, so that we can be good for years going into the future, etc. These are worthy and noble goals. You mention this is a Skerry issue because he is the coach now....which is true. I suggest you remember that he has had over a decade to get this done and he has not accomplished this goal. The team is having a very good year thus far. If any coach coaches long enough, that coach is bound to have one good year, if only by accident. I will wait for ongoing proof before acting as this is that magic moment that Towson becomes Gonzaga. It is fun to watch this squad but there is still quite a bot to prove. Skerry teams have set a low bar to get Towson fans excited about.

While I can't argue with you, I'll take Skerry over PK, Hunt, or any other coach heading back to Truax.....If Skerry can get shooters and passers, and then impress upon them his style of defense and rebounding, it's a winning formula.  I would cringe at Spiro's post game interviews with Skerry where we would lose, while out-rebounding the other team, but have 3 assists.....And rather than ever mentioning spacing, ball movement our outside shooting, Skerry would provide his canned answers that "we need to guard & defend better," when the real issue was offensive style and skill.  He was (and perhaps still is) such a one trick pony, to a fault, and it carried over to his recruiting, much to our detriment.

Skerry is a defensive whiz.  If he commits to finding scorers, shooters, and passers, and then imparts his defensive style, we will win.  This year is the first year I have ever heard Skerry say things like....."I was proud of the ball movement" or "we are going to shoot 3s" etc.  Maybe he and his staff have FINALLY connected the dots......

I graduated in 1994.  It's been heartbreaking to see how utterly pathetic our teams have been the last 25 years.  In my mind this season has already been a smashing success as the team is a joy to watch.  You could see it the first game against Albany where those of us in the chat were like, "who is this team...".....I've had more pleasure watching these guys share the ball, shoot lights out, not need to rely on one specific player (like a gary neal, fobbs, martin, JB, etc.), while the rest of the team was awful, each and every night.  I realize there is more to be done, but after having sand kicked in our faces for 25 years, it's great to see a team win, in some cases dominate, and do so in a way that is beautiful basketball.

He’s 6’5” and he threw a bounce pass to CT from just over mid court so naturally like he was Magic Johnson.  The broken jaw, the way he sets screens for his teammates..  his patience and poise when he has the ball in his hands.   He’s a special player and truly a Swiss Army Knife.
Again I mentioned this before.  Unlike seasons past this group of players just fits together nicely.

That pass was really risky, and CT did a good job of handling the pass and getting the layup...Still that was Magic / Ja Morant vision and he put a bit of english on the pass, ended up being a thing of beauty.

Cam is just an absolute joy....

  3. Bieku is a typical Skerry recruit in that he's offensively challenged.  Gibson, who sort of fell in Skerry's lap as an uncommitted senior is the only offensively geared freshman recruit we've had in quite a few years.  I like Hicks, but again, he's also challenged offensively......The other recruits the last 2 years never see the floor....He and his staff nailed the transfer class, but to continue this turn around he needs to focus on getting talented scorers & passers

If my math is correct.   Non conference opponents combined for 80-77 record thus far and we played zero cupcakes!!!  No one thought Coppin would be 1-14 to start.

If we continue to share the ball and knock down 3’s at this pace there is no doubt in my mind that is a 20+ win team.   11-7 in conference play is extremely attainable.

Congrats to staff and players.  9-4!!!

Spiro said it best today..  fast and furious pace of assists that truly hasn’t been seen the past decade during the Skerry era.

11-7 is attainable?  We're statistically a top 2 CAA team after playing one of the best OOC schedules.  I think 15-3 in conference is attainable.

  5. I'm so glad they were able to play this game, with COVID creating so much havoc.  This will be a nice Net ranking boost, beating a "quad 2" team at their place.  We are now shooting over 37% as a team (from 3), and that's remarkable given how bad we were the first few games of the year.   This team is special, I could see that when we played Albany.  The ball movement and unselfish play is something I've always admired with other teams, and it's a joy to watch.

It's the best Towson team in 20 years and the numbers are bearing that out.  Navy is decent, and this was yet another win where we led wire to wire.  18 assists to 3.  To me, it's this type of passing that has been the missing link, and what has made this season so enjoyable so far.

  6. Joe Lunardi has us in the NCAA field in his latest bracektology as a 16 seed playing Gonzaga!  I realize it's way too soon to get caught up in things like this, but one can dream.  We have looked really good this year though, and I'll stand by the comments I made in the chat that this is the best Towson team I've seen in ~20 years (even better than the Bennimon teams)....

  7. This was a great effort.  We went toe to toe with a top team in the country on their court.  We blitzed them with a 20-5 run in the first half and had great ball movement and shot reasonably well.  I wish he had a little more size in the front court as that hurt us in this game and in the Pitt game.  Team looks really good and showed up during the road trip where we never trailed against Kent and we led for chunks of the OSU game.  Look forward to the Coppin game.

  8. Penn took a very good Utah State team to OT.  Projected top 2 in the Ivy, and the Ivy is much improved in basketball.....

Not sure if any of you listened to Skerry and Spiro's video where they recapped Pitt and discussed the Penn game.  This was one of the few times I've heard Skerry mention offense in detail.....He emphasized spacing and ball movement as opposed to his canned response of "guard and rebound."   It seems that Skerry gets it this year and that you can still preach rebounding and guarding, but that will only get you so far without skill.  This team looks better than any other Skerry team - including when we had Benimon. Even those teams lacked guard play and ball movement like this team has displayed.  One last point on Skerry, he also emphasized getting the team on national TV - I love this vision, I feel it didn't really exist before....

Holden is unbelievable- what a skill set.  He can bring the ball up the court.  He's unselfish.  He rebounds.  He can shoot, AND he might be our best passer.  Nolan has a ton of talent and athleticism and will find his way.  Rizzuto will turn it around.  These 3 transfers (+ Hicks) have breathed a ton of life into a program that has been arguably one of the worst D1 programs over the course of the last 20-25 years.

Sorry guys, I can't do the Zoom press conference since I'm at work, so I won't get the deets on Gibson and Rizzuto. And if it's a private matter, I probably can't mention it on here.

Skerry said on FLO that the absences were injury related...
