mat1992 Posted June 5, 2024 Report Posted June 5, 2024 Since there's not a lot to talk about with the portal closed in CBB and another few spots open in FB, let's talk about facilities. As I mentioned in a previous post from the Zoom meeting last week, Towson renovating their Field House for the Fall sports and gearing up for a football/basketball indoor practice facility, adding at least one more weight room, where the Towson Center is. Hopefully more in the future in terms of stadium expansion. I never understood our lack of imagination on our website about showing off our facilities. For example, go to Fan Central on the front page of TowsonTigers.com and you'll see nothing on the new football practice facility on the lower field. https://towsontigers.com/facilities The view of the renovated soccer field could use more than just one picture https://towsontigers.com/sports/2020/6/22/tiger-stadium-lower-fields-complex.aspx Unitas Stadium 11,198 (no pic of the Field House) https://towsontigers.com/sports/2014/7/14/unitasstadium.aspx TU Arena, 5,200. Just once pic of indoors. https://towsontigers.com/sports/2020/6/22/tu-arena.aspx Schuerholz Park (500 seats) https://towsontigers.com/sports/2014/7/14/schuerholzpark.aspx Anyhow, let's compare facilities and I'm just going to pick some random schools in the CAA that have football. Campbell, Elon, Monmouth, NC A&T and Stony Brook Campbell https://gocamels.com/facilities Baker-Lane Stadium, seats 5,550 https://gocamels.com/facilities/barker-lane-stadium/7 Baseball Stadium Jim Perry Stadium, seats 700 features nice pictures of the locker room, batting cages, etc. https://gocamels.com/facilities/jim-perry-stadium/5 Gore Arena, 3,095 (images are messed up, but they have a YT video) https://gocamels.com/facilities/gore-arena-pope-convocation-center/6 Elon They have a tab for facilities on the front page of the site to make it easier to find. Same with Campbell. Towson doesn't have that. Rhodes Football Stadium (14,000), Nice pics and a YT video https://elonphoenix.com/facilities/rhodes-stadium/15 Schar Center for hoops (great pics), seats 5,100 https://elonphoenix.com/facilities/schar-center/23 Baseball Stadium, Latham Park, seats 5,100 (doesn't seem right), More pics of batting cages https://elonphoenix.com/facilities/latham-park/16 Monmouth No facilities tab on front page (under athletics though) https://monmouthhawks.com/facilities Football (Kessler Stadium), seats around 4,200, decent pics https://monmouthhawks.com/facilities/kessler-stadium/3 OceanFirst Bank Center (4,100 seats for hoops), solid pics of inside, has an indoor track as well https://monmouthhawks.com/facilities/oceanfirst-bank-center/2 MU Baseball Field (just one picture. No number on capacity but looks about 500+ https://monmouthhawks.com/facilities/mu-baseball-field/6 NC A&T The facilities tab a little tougher to find https://ncataggies.com/facilities Truist Stadium (football seats over 25,000), pics are adequate https://ncataggies.com/facilities/truist-stadium/1 Corbett Sports Center for hoops (doesn't have capacity listed and pics are a bit confusing, looked it up on Wiki and it says 5,000) https://ncataggies.com/facilities/corbett-sports-center/3 Baseball (7,500) https://ncataggies.com/facilities/world-war-memorial-stadium/7 Stony Brook https://stonybrookathletics.com/sports/2016/8/25/facilities.aspx Football -Kenneth P. Lavalle Stadium (12,300) They have links to pics that don't work. Also have a YT video https://stonybrookathletics.com/sports/2016/8/25/facilities-ston-10-lavalle-html.aspx Indoor Facility for football and other outdoor sports https://stonybrookathletics.com/facilities/dubin-family-indoor-training-center/18 Island Federal Arena for hoops (4,000 seats, just one pic. Not a very attractive gym) https://stonybrookathletics.com/sports/2016/8/25/facilities-ston-10-arena-html.aspx Baseball Joe Nathan Field seats 1,000 (just one pic) https://stonybrookathletics.com/sports/2016/8/25/facilities-ston-10-nathan-html.aspx Bottom line is that we need videos and better pics of all the facilities including the current weight room, practice facilities, etc. If you have something nice show it off, especially TU Arena and all its amenities. mat1992 Posted June 6, 2024 Author Report Posted June 6, 2024 The money is coming in. As I explained last week, and posted on the other thread, we're about to spend about $50M on facilities and enhancements to the field house, additional weight room, indoor practice facility for football and improved basketball practice facility at the Towson Center, new offices, improved academic center, eating areas, etc. My point is that nobody freakin' knows about this or the facilities that we currently have including the new football practice fields behind the lower soccer field. Where are the pictures and videos on the website? If you have it, flaunt it. The other schools do. That's what recruits at this level want to see and yes, NIL is an issue at every mid-major school. https://www.towsonfans.com/index.php?/topic/3232-zoom-meeting-on-522/ 1 Quote
Blazer49 Posted June 6, 2024 Report Posted June 6, 2024 I have thought for years that Towson has an athletics website more so because they have to have one as opposed to use it to promote. They do the bare minimum just so they can say they "have a website" and the examples @mat1992 provided proves it and you can find other examples throughout the site. Quote

Remove the website portion of your statement and that also rings true. 1 Quote
mat1992 Posted June 6, 2024 Author Report Posted June 6, 2024 Bryant starts this fall as a football-only member. Let's take a look at some of their facilities. Oops, not working. https://bryantbulldogs.com/Facilities/ Had to dig but nice shot of a bland Beirne Stadium with a nice football center at the end zone. Seats 4,440 https://express.adobe.com/page/BPlH4nLbAf2Pv/ They don't have the greatest facilities but they do have an indoor practice facility. They show it off in a YT video. Guessing ours will be similar but taller. https://youtu.be/_bwB-xukZoI Quote
mat1992 Posted June 6, 2024 Author Report Posted June 6, 2024 More schools W&M https://tribeathletics.com/facilities Zable Stadium at Cary Field-capacity 11,646 (decent pics) https://tribeathletics.com/facilities/walter-j-zable-stadium-at-cary-field/1 They also have the Laycock Football Center. Towson has a Field House, but it's for all the outdoor sports. Eventually, they'll probably have a Football-only center. https://tribeathletics.com/facilities/the-jimmye-laycock-football-center/2 f Kaplan Arena (8,600 for hoops, 11,300 for concerts and convocations) https://tribeathletics.com/facilities/kaplan-arena/3 Plumeri Park for baseball (1,000 seats) https://tribeathletics.com/facilities/plumeri-park/4 Nice little baseball indoor practice facility https://tribeathletics.com/galleries/baseball/plumeri-park-indoor-facility/image-1/1451/144109 https://youtu.be/VIdncpa815M Quote

Expect the Towson Center to become more like that but with hoops and football divided. https://express.adobe.com/page/zbYkh45obv0R4/ Quote
