TSU88 Posted September 8, 2024 Report Posted September 8, 2024 Look, let’s be honest. If Davis is out for any appreciable period of time, or worse yet, the entire season, we’re F’d. He’s freaking Jalen Hurts compared to the dude behind him. Hell, even with Davis, we’re likely staring down 2 straight road losses (Nova & NDSU) before we come home to W&M, which is not going to be any walk in the park Quote
mat1992 Posted September 8, 2024 Author Report Posted September 8, 2024 Forgot about the 42-yard field goal miss by normally-reliable Keegan Vaughn. Could have put us up by 8 but maybe it's better that the lead was five so were more aggressive defensively and not playing prevent late. Quote

I guess it's better to have Kent with experience than any other QB on the roster. But sure, Davis gives us a chance to beat most of the CAA teams. He also seems to have a better connection with Runyan. Tonight, I think because it was Morgan, everyone wanted to score. Wanted to be the hero. I don't see that happening in a CAA game, who the hell knows about this team and staff. Quote
mat1992 Posted September 8, 2024 Author Report Posted September 8, 2024 Another thing about these short-yardage, inside the 5 situations. Maybe, spreading them out and running the football is a better idea instead of trying to run with three tight ends and a running back, when the whole world knows you're running the ball up the middle. It worked later with C. Watkins in the second quarter and he ran through a nice hole because we spread them out (a bit) more. Still want to see them run with at least two WRs. Quote

Of course, it helped to have Morgan's kicker have an XP blocked and a FG blocked. Both by redshirt freshman Rion Roseborough. Quote
mat1992 Posted September 8, 2024 Author Report Posted September 8, 2024 Watching that scrum in the fourth quarter, where I thought the penalty was on Devin Matthews. It was on Ralph Paige, who tackled a guy, but the refs missed a facemask on Matthews because they were watching the fight. Quote
AtlantaTiger Posted September 8, 2024 Report Posted September 8, 2024 Only thing I can figure through 2 games is that we play to the level of our competition. Go play a Big 12 in front of 40,000+ and put up a very respectable fight. Play the local MEAC from down the street in front of 8,000 and struggle mightily. If the trend continues I would expect a solid effort against Nova. Quote

Last year against Villanova, we lost 33-10 to them at home. Kent went 10 of 21 for 53 yards. Quote
Chris Datres Posted September 8, 2024 Report Posted September 8, 2024 If most of the rest of the country was any indication, Week 2 was a week where teams had to do a little bit extra to get their bearings underneath them. Look at all the home teams that struggled or even lost to what would be considered lesser competition -- Penn State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida State, Notre Dame, and so on. Everyone was so hyped up to get their season underway in week 1 and then they come back in week 2 and it's a bit of a letdown. From my ear's standpoint, it seemed like the penalties were the biggest issue with us last night. Gotta get the discipline ironed out. I know we put a lot of trust in the offensive line in those short yardage situations but what if there was a little trickery involved and had a bootleg/tight end option when everyone thinks the dive play is gonna get run? The biggest encouragement comes from the defense's effort. Other than that long TD run to start the 2nd half, they kept things under control and had to come up big when the offense couldn't muster anything. Now if we can just keep those injuries at bay... Tiger Paw Posted September 8, 2024 Report Posted September 8, 2024 So how hurt is Davis? It was interesting that the camera was clearly showing the man had a dead arm and no one in the commentary box noticed it. Oh and not sure what was going on with the telecast on flo but there was a ghost like image on everything moving in the camera shot. I tweeted flo and Towson athletics, it seemed to get cleared up about 10 mins after sending them a message. Quote
