mat1992 Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 https://towsontigers.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2024-25/drexel/boxscore/28734 There are rock fights and there was a game on Saturday night between Drexel and Towson in front of 3,200 at TU Arena. Towson shot just 30% from the field in the second half, but held Drexel to 0-6 from three-point range. The Dragons started out making their first eight shots and had a 21-9 lead early on in the game, but would score just 33 points after that. More later 1 Quote
TSU88 Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 Talk about winning by a fingertip, if the Drexel player got that shot off .01 seconds sooner, it’s a deflating L. Very, very glad we won, but tonight illustrated that if all 3 of our top (and really, only) scorers aren’t scoring, we’re going to struggle mightily. Tonight it was Tarke who was a no-show, and as great as Tejada was in the first half, he barely scored in the second, leaving DWill to go one-on-five on occasion. I don’t know how much longer we can get away with this, but I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts. Just not sure it’s a formula for 3 W’s in 3 days in DC in March. Tonight was the 2nd home game recently where we’ve been futile in scoring in one half of a game. 19 point first half vs SB I believe; 20 points in the second half tonight. Also another home game where the opponent comes out scorching hot, only to rapidly cool off. I believe Hofstra got off to a hot start and tonight Drexel took things to a ridiculous level, hitting its first 8 shots. One of these days we’re not going to be able to dig ourselves out of these early holes…or not. I’m so done with May. I’ve never seen a guy whose shots go halfway down, only to spin out. You’d think 1 or 2 of his shots would go down, just based on the law of averages, but somehow he defies such laws. Next game Thursday vs a very bad team, SB, on the road. Then next Saturday vs Monmouth on the road. Can we have another 2-0 road trip? If we play like we did in the first half tonight, it’s certainly within the realm of possibility. If we play offensively like we did in the second half tonight, I’d say probably not. Quote
mat1992 Posted February 2 Author Report Posted February 2 This is one of the strangest winning streaks I've ever covered and there haven't been a lot over five games in the past 35 years that I've covered the team. The bottom line is winning the games even when you don't play your best and I don't think we've played our best (esp. at home) other than Monday night where we were outstanding. We scored 19 points against Stony Brook in the first half and came back to win that game. Tonight, we scored 35 at the half, but just 20 in the second half, and still found a way thanks to replay, to win our eighth straight game. As bad as the defense was early and yes, they made eight straight shots including several tough ones, we survived that to take a double digit lead. But we didn't finish the first half well and that usually translates into a shaky second half. But both teams defended well in the second half. I know there are some players not 100% due to illness, but Tyler Tejada (20pts, 6 rebs) and Dylan Williamson (18pts, 5 rebs) did just enough to win this game because the rest of the team shot 7 of 24. Rebounding was also a struggle in the second half (-12) after we outrebounded one of the better rebounding teams in the league. The bench, which has been the best part of the team for the most part, had just 11 points tonight as Tarke was held to a 3-pointer in 20 minutes. I thought Hargrove was the difference defensively for the Dragons as he blocked 3 shots and altered probably at least 5-6 layups. It's frustrating as hell watching our bigs miss so many puppies, but it is what it is. Dylan wants the ball late and Tejada was a machine at times though watching two guys trying to go one-on-one can get trying at times when they aren't scoring and when Tarke is off his game. The guy I keep pointing out that is the difference is Mekhi Lowery. He played 22 minutes tonight, scored four points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists and had one monster block. His defense, just like Hargrove's was in the paint, was crucial down the stretch. His FT shooting (0-3) is another story. Quote
Bay Area Tiger Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 Another win. 5-10 from the charity stripe has to be better come DC.. On to Stony Brook & Monmouth for a chance to rack up 6 road wins. Somebody cue the song 🎶 Quote

TT & DWill combined to shoot 16-28. 9-1 in the CAA. Our stat lines don’t always make sense but we keep winning. PS- Our freshman Center was 5-5 and 3-4 from the line and ultimately he’s a big key to our success in DC 1 Quote

I’m now positive you didn’t play highschool basketball (or any organized ball); you (and a few others) just don’t get the game. Don’t get me wrong; I stink. But I played , dad was a coach, g father was a coach - I’ll no longer get frustrated w your (and 2-3 others comments)…. You just don’t get the game #fine Quote

You just don’t get the game #fine What in the hell are you talking about? I’ve forgotten more than you know about basketball. Can you, oh I don’t know, cite some specifics to support your half baked thesis? Is it because I called out May, who empirically is one of the worst shooters in D1? And what does having played or not played HS basketball have to do with the price of eggs? I guess what your “argument” boils down to is that I shouldn’t have an opinion, if it’s not a sycophantic glowing opinion, lavishing praise on our team. The more you post, the more demonstrate what a clod you are. Do not annoy me with your stupidity going forward, as you just don’t know the game, 1 Quote
