MBB beats Hofstra 76-65 to break their 8-game winning streak
griggey20 replied to mat1992's topic in Tiger Basketball
I like the idea of going small and if we get Gray back possibly putting him at the 5 and just open up the floor. Obviously tough to do it against the big teams like W&M. If Fobbs, Betrand and Timberlake can rebound (16 combined last night) that could really open up the floor -
Crazy we have had such back luck down there. It is definitely a weird place to play a game. It is a gym with no back drop behind the baskets which does make it a little awkward to shoot there. During the PS tenure JMU has had some solid teams early on but its pretty shocking we haven't won down there the last 3 seasons. Finishing the regular season strong will be big for us. Going a minimum of 3-2 is vital, 4-1 would be huge. UD has a similar schedule as us so we'd have to get them with the tiebreaker which gets really confusing after H2H. Would love to avoid CoC until the finals since they rely on 4 guys to play around 30 minutes. Playing 3 straight days could beat them up a bit.

I’m not saying he hasn’t had bad ones but that haven’t all been bad. He’s developed All-CAA players as transfers and freshman. I feel like the improvement from guys year over year is noticeable for a fair amount of guys. Throw in Damas and Sanders as well
-
I don’t understand. We rip Skerry for recruiting the same guys but the last 3 have developed tremendously from freshman to sophomore year ( Morsell, Zane and AB). Doesn’t PS get any credit for that?

Ball has to be on the rim for it to be goaltending.

Streak ends at 7; Riller leads CofC over MBB (story)

Hopefully we get one more shot at him in March to go to the NCAA tournament.... -
One of the things I have been happiest about (and we on this board have consistently ripped) is the assisted FGs. I think that is a big part of how the team is playing together. The last 5 games we have been assisting on about 50% of our made FGs and to me that shows this team is playing together. I admittedly do not get to watch many games because I'm reffing my own game the time they are playing but I feel like the box score can paint a bit of the picture. We have talked for years about need a PG to get this team together and to run stuff. While I don't know how often that is happening it at least seems like these guys are playing together and for each other. When doing that it makes it seem more realistic they can get a big win. I hope this team continues to build that cohesion over the next 5 weeks and be ready to win a game or 2 in the conference tournament.

Zane never won a POW?

MBB holds on to beat UNCW 67-60 to break streak (story up)
griggey20 replied to mat1992's topic in Tiger Basketball
Totally agreed with his inability to let 3 point shooters work within his program. We have a guy like Four who was unable to get open shots. We bring in a guy like Gray who is a stretch 4 that should be able to get and make open shots to stretch the floor and its just not happening. I am hoping these guys are starting to gel a bit more. I've always thought PS has done a good job developing players year over year. Looking at Bennimon from his year sitting out to his next year, Morsell, Zane, Sanders (this year) and now Betrand. -

20 - 80 is 25% for clarification. Crickets when we win verification- 45 replies on the loss, 14 on the win.... -
TT12, you want the Grad Assistant to be making decisions?

MBB falls to Charleston 81-69 to fall to 0-3 in the CAA (story)

There are always crickets when the team is winning because you're 100% right in the fact that people in today's world would rather be negative/pessimistic about things to make themselves feel better/smarter. I hate coming on this board when we lose because everyone is a know it all and makes it incredibly personal. I feel like the majority of the posters would rather be right than the programs being successful. -
MBB blows late lead, beats Tulane in OT 86-82

Towson Rated 155 by Ken Pomery with 5 CAA teams within 35 spots. I am hoping this team built some toughness, got some experience for the newcomers (I include Timberlake as a newcomer) and will continue to get better by March to hopefully put themselves in a place to win a few games in DC. It will be a great litmus test to play NE to open up CAA play. While i would like to be better than 6-6 through the NC season I like the mid major and high major tests they gave themselves and I feel like it will pay dividends. The league is going to be wide open with a chance to make a statement early. They get NE, Hofstra and @ CoC to start the season. it's a shame students are on break, it would be awesome to get a good crowd for for the NE and Hofstra games. https://kenpom.com/ Hofstra 134 Northeastern 143 Towson 155 Charleston 157 Delaware 169 -
I totally agree with you on all of this. But to my point that should not reflect poorly on Skerry and staff. He's playing the hand he's dealt.
-
There has to be some accountability on the Terps here as well. Those cowards won't come up and play us. It would be nice if they had the guts to come up, fill SECU and try to build a nice rivalry. There is no reason for them to avoid a home and home with us. Same goes for Georgetown.

Downplaying a win vs a power 5 school coming off a 1-31 season is pretty hilarious. I don't care how good or bad they were.
-
In my 17 years associated with Towson, this is no doubt the worst regular season loss ever.
-
While i generally agree, Lax does matter at Towson as well. Winning in other programs can breed winning within other programs, IMO. Do i think football and men's basketball should drive that, 1000%. I can't figure out the attendance stuff for the life of me. The apathetic fans and lack of passion has a lot to do with history IMO. I would all be for changing that mindset, it's just not that easy but I agree with everyone that this is the jobs of the Asst. ADs and the Athletic Department Sr. Leadership.
-
We are all aware this is the #18 team in the country and one of hte best defensive teams in the nation, correct? I'm not saying we played well but that may have something to do with the team on the opposite bench.
-
It will be a good challenge on the glass, we will get an opportunity to see how well this team will be able to rebound.
-
Gotta think 2 wins and we are in no matter what anyone else does, no?
-
Its amazing how small the margin of error is. Bad loss vs Albany at home and an OT loss vs Villanova. Either one of those are a W and we are looking at a seed in the tournament. Now we have to win out just to get in. I feel like this team is playing well together and in it for each other, hopefully that pays dividends, gets us in the playoffs and at least 1 win in the post season.

How do you make it a big deal? I am all for getting people to go to games but I feel like you're not realizing how hard it is to do. I was involved with athletics and student government during my time at Towson. We set (at that point in time) the school record for attendance by pulling out all the stops with prizes, greek life involvement, having it be the Delaware game, etc. In my opinion its about changing the mindset of students to value being at the game without getting something. The issue with that is student attendance is free and that does not provide much additional revenue. If you're not getting the additional revenue you wont be able to do those additional prizes/events that we all seem to think will help lure fans to come to games. I don't have answers, I'm just saying its not as easy as its made to seem for the athletic department. The people on this board are the minority when it comes to Towson fandom.

Smith, Flacco lead No. 21 Tigers over Delaware, 31-24
griggey20 replied to mat1992's topic in Football Talk
While I agree attendance should be better I don’t really know what is supposed to be done? Historically students have been apathetic to come to games and I’m not totally sure how to change it. There are so many options of things to do and so many transplants in the area that it’s tough to get buy in. Aside from the fact that the Rodgers Fordge crew resents Towson more than support them. -
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of chance he gets. I’d be surprised if he gets drafted but name alone will get him tryouts. The way the NFL has changed you don’t need to be 6’5” to be a QB any longer.
