Do good players go to public schools anymore?  Going back further, Franklin Dupree, Philmore etc. private schoolers. All for whatever reason didn’t pan out for whatever reason.

I do think some kids would prefer to stay close to home so their family can come watch them. Some also think they want to go away and become home sick and transfer.

it’s not the only reason but can be A reason

Revisionist history? PK had Gary Neal, Dennard Abraham, Braxton Dupree and Isaiah Philmore. He had enough talent to at least have a winning season. Anybody remember that 1-3-1 zone trap? He was an interesting guy and did have great stories, but if I had to hear one more story about Bobby Sura, Charlie Ward, and Sam Cassell, I was going to jump off the top of the Towson Center.

I’ve said this on the forum before but I’m CONVINCED if Terrance Whiters doesnt get arrested before that 2001-2002 season we would’ve been near the top of the CAA that year. Him and Gary had such a great chemistry, they would’ve been the best backcourt in the league.

ok....so your comment of "research", got my (albeit tiny) brain thinking....and consulting professor Google (plse let me know if the following research is off; i mean dat)

Towson hoops:  1979/80 - now.....44 years Div 1 hoops. Have we always been D1?  i think so.  sucks no NCAA tournament; we are part of a shitty trivia question im sure

    572-738 43%  #losers

    79-83, Agnoti in 4 seasons = .250%

    83-98 Traux, 14 seasons = .499%

    97-01 Jaskulski 4 seasons = .327%

    02-04 Hunt 3 seasons (why so fast?) = .276%

05-11 kennedy 7 seasons = .330% (ran into, probation?  WTF)

    11-23 Skerry 12 seasons   = .511%

so... i'm trying to figure out why this group *  (*well, like 4-5 sad lads) wanna run the guy w/ the best record, EVER, outta the school.  SMH.  1-31 to 18-13; is the GREATEST turnaround in the history of D1 basketball?  is this still true/still stand?  WTF?    helloooooo    towson, not UCLA

then i peel da onion a bit more and say....WTF.  if you eliminate Skerry year 1 (1-31)  (ya know, the year they were on PROBATION) (pretty sure that has practice hr restrictions/ recruiting restrictions...thats on the "other/previous pat" btw -)....and eliminate the covid year ( maybe a stretch - but....work wit me, as the players ALL got a muligan on Covid, what if this staff did too?)  (4-14)......i'm no math major -doesnt skerry & this staff record become  like 75% ?     can someone plse fact check this?  year 1 out, covid out?  and.......75% ?    WTF?

if this is true (and again, I think year 1 100% should be out....and global pandemic thingy kinda real, but i get everyone had that -so im 50/50).... shouldnt you guys be building a fcuking statue (albeit short one) for SKerry.  are y'all insane?  i think these numbers check out.  look, im bias to teams dat WIN consistently , play real defense, play hard and rebound...  get in the mix (almost) EVERY year, and have a chance....a yearly chance!(   I guess some don't give a shiat about consistency, and it's ncaa tournament or nothing - bring me da shiny toy.  I like shiny things too, but this program was a JOKE before this group. A F*cKING JOKE., no consistency.   Seriously, a joke.  https://grantland.com/features/visit-worst-team-men-college-basketball/

Now, ask any coach, player, fan of the CAA what they think about playing Towson NOW (and im even not talking about graduation rate, autism acceptance and other stuff that never existed prior to) . i know this is a futile post - haters gonna hate. "we havent danced, blahblha"  ....coach has takin us as far as he can (lol, where ya thinking you are going w/out him?) but im curious (not really) to what said haters think if they look (really )looked at the numbers?; again....this aint ever gonna be Gonzaga.  who da fcuk is gonna do better?  this aint a destination job.

100% sucks we aint been dancing, but i dont get da lack of self awareness.  fire da coach i say IF you can get phil jackson, rick pitino, dean smith, (or their budgets  #NIL)...but otherwise; as my grandfather said, "they actually made chicken salad, outta chicken shit".     i'm shocked (not really, #poopinpants message boards love to complain, see kentucky lol)) the 4-5 sadlads just dont get it.  ....y'all just dont get it (yep, you 2 really end of day)  2012 & tualum hang out?

onto the portal........onto next year.....hope NT & CH cash big checks ballin.  #may....CT?....conway!   loved the journey this year, bummed wit the end.  but....I can still see the forest thru da trees/idiots

I generally agree with these horrifically written comments but at some point enough has to be enough. I’m close to that point. I don’t think he deserves to be fired but if we don’t make the tourney I don’t think his contact should be renewed.

He was given a brand new arena with drastically increased facilities. I was in PKs staff as a manager and his whole thing was getting a new arena built. He was told it was going to happen and obviously never was during his tenure.

I very much appreciate Skerry getting us out of the depths of hell. But at some point it will be time to move on. I want nothing more than him to make the tourney. He’s a great man by all accounts and he’s been incredible for the program. But there is one thing left to do….

Cam was pretty close to a home run, but with some of the free throw shooting and regression ultimately ended up being more of a triple.

He was a first team all conference player. If any transfer gets to that status it’s a home run.

  5. Man that was heartbreaking. Up 1 with 1:08 left and just couldn’t get that turnover at the end of the shot clock. Had 2 great looks on the following possession. Just didn’t make the shots at the end.

After not winning one this year, idk if we ever will. Cam was incredible.

I don’t think this one was Skerrys fault but he’s on the hot seat, if that’s even possible.

  6. These guys have an edge to them like we’ve never really seen with Towson. Normally we are the guys getting picked on.  At times it is overboard and borderline dirty but I’d prefer this way than the way it has been in the past.

interested to see what these guys bring Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

  7. IMO this sets us up in the semis and finals how we’d want it. You want to play the deeper team earlier (Charleston) the play Hofstra in the finals who relies on 2 guys to carry them. It’ll be harder for Hofstra to win 3 in a row than us.

Conway and May have been chipping in nicely. That 3 from May last night could be a nice confidence boost heading into next week. Glad to see Cam make some FTs tonight. Seeing those go in will be important as he’ll be the guy teams are fouling late in games.

To me, winning last night is psychologically important from a confidence perspective. It matters more than “playing the bracket”. These are kids, their mental state and confidence weighs more than who we are playing. I don’t want to go into DC on a two game losing streak.

Nothing else matters at this point. I feel like these guys know that it’s win 3 or the season is a disappointment. I’ve been saying it since October, making it to the finals is just not enough with the expectations this year.

  8. The only 2 losses they could really afford is vs Towson and vs UNCW. Both are in the top 135 in the NET currently but I’d think losing 1 of those 2 and a Conf Finals loss would still get them in. To 2012’s point, the only other over .500 teams they play are UD and Drexel who would end up being bad L’s.

As bad as the bottom of the league is, the top 4 (CoC, UNCW, Hofstra, Towson) are pretty dang good.

Does this cost C of.C an autobid, if they don’t win the conference tournament? My guess is maybe. If they lose in the conference tournament, that would give them 3 L’s on the season, and might give the selection committee an excuse to keep them out in favor of some 5th-7th place P5 school.

A lot depends on who they lose to. Losing to one of the top 4 in the league won’t hurt as much as a bad loss. I’d say they can probably tolerate 1 more reg season and a loss in the finals to get in.

There’s a time & place for everything, but maybe we need a little brashness like that on occasion

Not for a bench guy who makes little impact in the floor. PS was right to pull him.

I tried to watch Nicks F1 but the camera angle was so bad you couldn’t see anything. It didn’t like like he got him in the head/neck area. I think he was frustrated with his play and the illegal screen he was getting hit with. The Trail official looked like he was going with an illegal screen at first.

I saw that he hung on the rim. Freshman mistake. If we are going to shorten the bench, I guess it’s down to 7 and Mai is out.

That T was not for hanging on the rim. That would only be a 1 shot Class B technical. He got in the face of a kid from Bryant and talked s*it to his face. Which is a 2 shot T. And also why he got out directly to the bench

For those stats geeks amongst you, last season, UWF averaged 4,403 attendance for its home games, with 3 crowds in excess of 5K, the highest being 5,503. I wasn’t able to determine their maximum seating capacity, though I believe it’s not much more than 5K.

OTOH, last season we averaged 5,567 per home game attendance. However, if you redact the season high in attendance, 9,784 vs Morgan (driven in no small measure by Morgan fans) our average attendance for the remainder of our home games was 4,513, or just 110 people per game higher than UWF’s average attendance. In fact, UWF’s highest attendance for 1 game, 5,503, surpassed all of our single game attendance figures, with the exception of the Morgan game & the UNH game, where the attendance was 5 people more (5,508) than UWF’s highest attendance (5,503)

Honestly Dont care if 504 ppl show up. If he makes us a winner it’s good by me

Conway had Nick open and just needed to pass it a split second early. It was close.
Parr played well in the first half. He should be 8 a game. 4 in each half to spell Charles. He wasn’t good in the second half because Charles picked up a stupid foul reaching at the FT line.

It all comes down to march but doesn’t mean that this one and the others don’t count.

Conway getting minutes and playing well is a good sign.  Small sample size but he’s 50% from 3 and looks comfortable on the foul line. Don’t look at when he Shoots inside the arc, those numbers are ugly. Is his d a work in progress? Yes. Was another shooter on our team a liability on defense sometimes as well?  Yes.  He is too valuable to space the court right now to keep the defense Honest. We have no other outside shooting (people that can make them) with Gibson out. Nick sometimes will get hot and hit 3 in a row but then won’t make another for a game or two

It is a 5 team race. Charleston, Towson. Uncw. Hofstra and Delaware (defending champs with 2 really good players)  the 4 besides Delaware are all really different teams from one another, it’ll make for some good battles.

Uncw Hofstra and Charleston have all played tougher schedules than we have

uncw- best defense in the league and gets after you. Not great at shooting. Small but quick.

Charleston- best depth (10 deep)  not great at passing.  but play at high pace (not as much as last year)  not tested on the road

Hofstra- best one two scoring combo. Can outscore anyone  bad on defense. Lack of depth and rebounding.

I’m not saying the other 3 don’t have a shot but us and Charleston are the clear favorites.

I really wish we could get an awesome crowd on 12/31

  14. Man it would’ve been cool to get this one but we just didn’t make plays down the stretch. The Conway charge play was super close. I wish he was more aggressive and just tried to finish.
Agree with the late game mistakes that can’t happen.  But I did like that they weren’t due to a lack of hustle.

I know PS was upset that some of the bench guys didn’t play well but I thought Paar was really good off the bench and this is the exact game we need him for. Charles’ limited minutes (specifically 2H) are what we can’t have happen against an all-conference big man.
In the grand scheme, this game doesn’t matter at all. My big takeaway is we are getting better since the start of the non-conf. This team has looked uninterested in previous games and I felt like this was one that they knew the lights were on and wanted to play well. Not necessarily the best thing but may be true.
The one positive of the injuries is that we get to see Conway work though his mistakes and get minutes instead of getting benched. I feel like he’s been getting better every game and will be a real piece come march.
Conference play is around the corner and I feel like it’s a 2 horse race. 12/31 will be circled on the calendar and we will know what this team is made of right before the ball drops.
