So, I believe I have the below correct.

Hofstra needs to win out and have both us and Uncw lose out to win the regular season title.

Delaware needs to win out and have both of us and Uncw lose 2 of 3 to win the regular season title

Uncw wins the title with 2 wins and a Towson loss

Towson wins the title with 2 wins or 1 win and 1 Uncw loss

Let’s just win Saturday and not concern ourselves with this nonsense

  2. To be honest, I have no clue if he’s right or not. I’ve watched about 10 games this year, 4 have been Towson games. I worked between 30-40 college games and 30-40 HS games and have 3 small children. My tv is filled with Disney+. But to your charge point, I agree, players need to adjust to the way it’s been all year. I think guys are leaving their feet from farther away from the rim and defenders know they can get the PCF.

  3. The general thought that officials give a crap about the history, standings, home crowd, etc is hilarious. We don’t care. We just want to get plays right.

The other part is officials accountability.  Most guys at this level can’t afford to f games up and stay at the D1 level.

I understand the frustration with the block charge stuff but the rule isn’t what you think it was 5, 10, 20 years ago. There is a difference between the responsibilities from a primary and secondary defender and what they can/cannot do. A primary defender doesn’t need to be set. They’ve already obtained legal guarding position.

Lastly with the fight. I think the league plays a part in suspensions for players leaving the bench and punches thrown. The officials just have to deal with the in game stuff.

I worked a game today with 64!!!! Fouls. Sometimes the players want to play and follow the freedom of movement point of emphasis and sometimes they don’t. It’s not the officials job to tell them how to play it’s their job to blow the whistle. If the players don’t adjust to the whistle that’s on them and we are advised to keep blowing.

IMO there is too much criticism of the officials for every game we’ve played this season. It’s the same plays that are complained about and the officials are generally correct, is the responsibility of the players to understand the rules and the NCAA’s points of emphasis. Jay Bilas is out saying there aren’t enough fouls called and the whistles are at an all time low on the whole.

There have been a lot of fun parts about this season, but maybe the most gratifying has been watching the development of Charles Thompson. I don't get to see many Towson games in-person, but I did go to the season-opener against George Washington in Thompson's freshman year. I was excited about what he could become after that game because of his athleticism and his motor. He has continued to develop a fairly steady rate, but the jump he has made this year has been incredible.

He has been a big part of setting the tone for the physical play Towson has been bringing to these games recently and through the year, and he is putting up some great numbers (including 15 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks last night). Pat Skerry, the coaching staff and of course first and foremost Charles deserve a tremendous amount of credit for the progression he has made as a player. It feels like he is used in almost every other (at a minimum) half-court possession to play a two-man game with the guards that usually sets up other movements on offense. He is fun to watch and very easy to root for.

According to the Towson record book, Kennell Jones holds the record for a .589 field goal percentage for a season. Thompson is shooting .613 (119-194) this season. I think CBS Sports gave these stats last night, but he is shooting .723 (55-76) with 17.2 ppg, 8.4 rpg and 2.4 blpg in the last seven games where we have gone 6-1 with wins at Delaware (9-3 at home), Hofstra (9-1 at home) and UNC-Wilmington (11-2 at home).

One thing PS has often been criticized for during his tenure is the lack of development with Freshman throughout their careers. I think we need to pull that back a bit. The development of CT, Nick and Gibby has been vital in the success of this team. Obviously the players deserve a ton of the credit.

Not sure what has changed to cause this but I wonder if that has to do with the assistants. kudos to the staff for finding the right mix of transfers and developing what we had on the roster.

my hope is this isn’t 1 magical year but really helps us become the program we were all hoping to build when JB was here.

Two scrimmages this week (lord help patrick if they blow one of these home games), before a must win game at trask next thursday. Year 10, no more excuses with what should be a well rested team in a great environment, time to win a big one. D'Antonio better get that on cbssn as well, league got good publicity with a great game tonight.

You sure we’re going to have a great atmosphere?

  6. I think all of these points are generally fair.  The only other things I'll add.  How are we going to pick up the pace and increase pressure without Nolan?  I just dont think we have the guards to do it without him which is why I believe he's so important.  I think he can get us easier buckets, create more space and is a willing passer to get other guys shots at the rim more than anyone else on the team.

I also think Nick was pressing.  He's in front of his family/frends and wants to play well for all the people there rooting for him.  And he didn't.  I was never good enough to play at this level but I would think at 21 yrs old, I would want to do the same thing.  PS did hint to this a bit during his post game as welll....

Not sure what to make of this message.  There was really nothing said that was new or anyone that care or follow Towson sports did not already know.  It was almost as if someone just copied and pasted portions of each sports preview and review articles.  Obviously there is not that much he could say about the true future of the department as long as he has the interim tag in front of his title, but then again why bother with a "message"?

I dont think that message is for idiots like us who follow every move.  It's for the more casual person they're trying to convernt into idiots like us.

  8. If this year has taught us anyting about the portal its not just about getting good players but the right players.  We have gotten the fancy names in the past and it hasn't worked out (JB probably the exception).  But with Nolan and Cam, I wasn't iffy on how they were going to be and clearly its worked even better than we could have all imagined.  Let's hope the coaching staff found something about these two that they can carry over.

It's been crazy talking to kids on the floor this year who are uber talented not getting looks from bigger DI schools because these high majors are waiting on the portal.  These schools think these kids will be there.  Maybe it's better to think differently and offer another freshman big that is getting pushed to the side for another couple months.

I don’t want to speculate about his health however if he did contract Covid I’m hearing about individuals having breathing issues for weeks+ after.  Obviously he’s not been 100% for a long while and add to the fact he became a father before that with the lack of sleep etc.

Vegas was 2 months ago and he scored 15 points in both games w/5 steals and he 10-12 from the line.
Had 10 assists against Ohio State on Dec 8th.  Then 8 assists against Navy.  After the Drexel game he hasn’t been the same and obviously sick which was Jan 9th.
    16 days later.

I truly hope they figure out and fix.  He’s been great for us when healthy.

Agree with BAT here, TF54 I think you're being a bit short sided on what Terry has meant to this team.  I agree he hasn't been great but had a layup (that nobody else on the team could even attepmt) roll off the rim against Drexel but hasn't been the same since Navy.  Something isn't right but I hope that he can get right and get back to the guy he was early on.  Saying he's the guy that he's been the last 3 weeks would just be incorrect IMO.

  10. I think we can continue to remain competitive for the regular season but I dont think we have much of a chance to win 3 games in 3 days in the conference tournament without a healthy Nolan.  I think we need his presence on both ends of the floor and you see how our assist rate goes down when he's out.  I hope he take the right amount of time to get fully healthy and can be back on the floor for the late season stretch.

Awful effort on the glass for a 3rd straight game. Becoming an issue…

knew it would be tough to stop good guards. We just aren’t quick enough. Liked that Pat finally changed to a 3-2 late but it was after like 5 straight possessions were Phillips went 1-1 didn’t pass on the possession and torch Nolan Gibson and rizzuto. It must be nice to have guards take over late. Some on the black and gold just try and play hero ball… especially today

should have went down low every time  had success and went away from it a bit.

cams timeout call actually probably helped as it was 2 free throws.  He was going to be called for a walk anyway.  Fouled way too much.

this team is 3-6 seed with 4/5 most likely.

    welcome back!  We missed you!

Both good points. The goal should and always be to make the tournament. Our ooc was good. The strength of schedule was meh (185ish of 356). But we did win and compete on the road which is big.  Only navy has more road wins this season.
until last year the caa tournament hasn’t really been a crapshoot. 1-3 seeds have won it like 95% of the time.  We have been awful in March and some were embarrassingly so. We haven’t played as the 8 seed vs the 1. The seeding was close and or in favor and we have yaked on ourselves.

Sad thing is that we were closer to the ncaat my freshman year when we were down 2 or 3 with about 2.5 left and cam long hit a step back three with the shot clock expiring. That was a great run from a bad team. But seeing that dagger first hand in the colosseum still hurts

I generally agree with everything that has been said.  BUT, success in March doesn't only mean getting to the tourney for me.  If we win the 1 seed, play well in the tourney, get to the finals and play well I think I am okay with it.  Still get a shot in the NIT (not ideal) but at least we are making progress towards getting there.  Everyone on this board has been disappointed with what we have done in the conference tourney.  Winning a couple games and playing in the finals is still an accomplishment, while not the pinnacle, for me at least.

Yeah that team was also good. They just started slow.  Like you said, there is a lot of season left including 4 road games that we haven’t had much success in

If we look at the standings right now you're correct, we do have some tough opponents.  At the same time 3 of our 4 conference wins were against the top 6 in the pre-season picks (NE-2, Hofstra-5 and Elon-6) with our only loss being to the preseason #3 team (Drexel) which was on the road.  I do agree the next 6 will dictate how good this team can be:

    Coc

    UNCW

    @ UD

    UD

    Drexel

    JMU

If we manage to go 4-2 or better I think that's when expectations will really increase for me.  As we have all said, it's been a great start, but our biggest challenges are in front of us.  We all have the bad taste in our mouth come March and that needs to change.  The good news is Nolan and Cam have no idea what that past is can will hopefully push us through.
