Given these pickups, I have higher hopes for this team than if Zane and JG were staying (we'll, I do wish Gorham we're coming back). In a sense, Skerry gets a blank slate for 2018-19; given how things collapsed last year, that's a good thing.

Glad to get some good news. Mat's subject line had me expecting disappointment.

I don't know what our recruiting class looks like for next year, but we need offensive firepower. We didn't build on the platform Drenner/Seider et al. put in place. Hopefully, Nads and crew come back hungry.

when does work start on the field hockey field -- this summer?

I didn't sense any spark or excitement yesterday. The spring game had been an "event" in the past, but I couldn't even find a roster to look at. And all the talk about guys being banged up (after just just 15 practices) makes me wonder how we'll get through the season. Combined with the Stover situation -- whatever it is -- makes it hard to have high expectations.

Was Dymelle Parker out there at LB? He was highly touted when we recruited him two years ago.
-
Where will it be located? The logical spot is between the softball stadium and the tennis courts -- where field hockey played long ago.

As long as our new recruits don't decommit after hearing about the turmoil, I'm less concerned than others on this board. From what I can tell, several of the incoming players have real potential, so maybe everyone starting with a clean slate is a good thing -- and a chance to build chemistry without ZM throwing up 40 percent of our shots, and driving the lane and losing the ball rather than dish it off to a teammate. This could be addition by substraction, at least in that case.

What's the story on Stover? -

Hofstra lost to Fairfield, so the league is still wide open for us. Any word on when/if Ewell/Mazza will be back? -
This team shows no improvement on the turnover front -- especially unforced turnovers. I don't know how you coach that out of players. Maybe we just recruited the wrong guys.
-
To my mind, he wouldn't bring much to the table.

Oops -- meant to type "Anybody know how that's proceeding?"

I haven't seen anything on TT.com about spring practices. Anybody know what that's proceeding? (And why the news blackout?)

Six errors in today's game, with three in the ninth inning leading to five unearned runs. A 4-1 lead turns into a 6-4 loss to UMBC. On Sunday, they gave up seven runs in the last two innings, losing 9-8 to Ohio. So the new coach gets off to a 3-12 start -- with the toughest part of the schedule to come. Obviously, it'll take a while for his recruiting to show an impact (see Skerry, Pat), but I was hoping we'd be more competitive than this. Maybe when warm weather finally gets here, our play will heat up.

Woodall can't win a face-off. Lucky we're down by just one at the half. -
It was an exhibition game, but we were good enough to beat Bucknell in November, and the Bison go on to win 26 games and get a ticket to the dance. A month later, w'ere good enough to beat UMBC, but they go on to win 24 games, and have a dance date too. We go 8-13 following the UMBC win ... and are going nowhere. What's wrong with this picture?

I remember Howard had a tiny receiver back in the '93 season named Flea something. He kept getting open against us -- he disappeared among bigger players -- in a game we lost at the last second. Kept us out of the playoffs.

0-4 on extra-man opportunites. sure wish Ian Kirby hadn't transferred. And then there were the 20 turnovers ...

I'm not crazy about it. It overfills my screen. I have to scroll up/down to see the full image/headline.

I find new look easier to read.

Rob is running the offense -- did I miss something? Has the little brother been demoted?
-
Hmm. He never played in college.

Not sure how much stock to put into this. New Hampshire only had two out of the top 40, and that's always a strong program. Maine had two, and they always put a competitive team on the field. I think it mostly comes down to coaching -- though JMU has both good coaching and top-tier players, so they'll be good as long as Mike Houston is there. Anybody else wonder why Jeff Miller didn't draw more interest given his size?

Davis is playing (or about to) on the other side of the world. And I'd like to comment on Mat's observation about Zane being a slasher: I wish he wouldn't try to penetrate as much as he does; he doesn't have a great handle, so he loses control of the ball about half the time. And he also tends to get trapped, as Chris Datres pointed out, because the other team's scouting report has clearly flagged ZM's weakness. Even when he gets fouled, it seems like he misses from the line far more often than you would expect from such a profilic scorer.
