Monahan, the Maryland transfer, was 0-11 shooting. Maybe that's the reason he left U-Md -- he wasn't good enough to play there.
-
three FBs. was there a need?
-
No surprise that Morgan Mahalak isn't listed. Do we know if he plans to transfer as a grad student? Or is his career over?
-
Not much of preview -- it never even mentions Goodrich, Woodall -- or who the goalie will be.
-
won't the shot clock limit our ability to slow things down?
-
anybody know how we did in our scrimmages at Bucknell?

After the successful trip to Canada last summer, the team seemed to be bonding very well. The 10-1 start and two tournament trophies would seem to have cemented that bond. But now I wonder if these guys have had too much togetherness (we all know what familiarity breeds). Whatever it is, we don't have much chemistry at a stage where it should be peaking.

couldn't agree more. just no growth mentally -- we keep failing at the same things in the same ways.
-
This would seem to be a huge loss. Or is there something we don't know?

Like other CAA teams that shoot well from three, W&M worries me (even UNCW and Delaware can light it up, and we all know about Wright-Foreman). Tony Shaver is a good coach, always seems to get the most from his players, so the Tribe is a legitimate contender. Of course, the season is long and all of the teams will have ups-and-downs, but Charleston has been exposed as fallible, so a wild ride is likely ahead.

MBB ends streak with win over UNCW, 89-71 (added quotes)

Skerry needs to tell Morman (and Martin) not to drive the lane. If Zane is lucky, he gets fouled, but more often he just stumbles and/or loses control of the ball among the defenders. Morman is simply out of control whenever he handles the ball. There must have been a half dozen fast breaks where one of those two squandered easy bucket opportunities. -
Rank the Top 10 All-Time Towson Head Coaches
TigerFan54 replied to DocMinnegan's topic in Other Tiger Sports
I'd put Dick Filbert at the top. For many years, we routinely beat West Virginia, Pitt, and other major programs. In 1990 (or maybe '91) we went to nationals and finished 9th out of the 12 qualifiers -- truly incredible, given these were powerhouses like Georgia and UCLA. And if Nads can get us back to the tournament this year -- after losing so many key players -- then I would put him on this list, even if he hasn't had that many years in the saddle. I saw Phil Albert's teams from his first year as HC, and he was a dynamic offensive mind and motivator (and he always produced good QBs). His act got stale near the end, though, even before the save-Towson-football black hole. -
Even without Brantley, CofC will be a handful. Chealey and Riller are a dynamic duo, and Riller can slice through the lane or knock down threes. I think our comeback win against them at SECU was our most impressive performance in quite while.

JMU doesn't look as strong as they were last year, so I expect them to lose to NDSU, which seems to have no weaknesses. One of things that distinguishes JMU from us is their DBs, who are terrific in coverage and very hard hitters. On offense, they make great use of their tight end, and we rarely throw to ours.

We're lucky to have kept him -- he could have had his pick of other jobs these past two seasons. But he'll have his work cut out for him this year with all the key losses to graduation and a very tough schedule.
-
Tunstall made a huge difference in the second half after UMBC had taken the lead. Blocked shots and key rebounds, again and again.
-
I agree -- two of the three refs were horrid.
-
Does anybody know what Tunstall's injury is? Will it resolve during the two long breaks coming up or will it be a season-long thing? I hope the former, because we're a better team with him logging more than 10 minutes.
-
I hope the students show up. This team deserves some support.
-
They hung tough with Syracuse too, but couldn't get over the hump in any of the games.

OFFICIAL CELEBRATION THREAD - TOWSON 70, GEORGIA SOUTHERN 67
TigerFan54 replied to Chris Datres's topic in Tiger Basketball
Yes, these are the kinds of games we would have lost in years past. You have to dig down when the going gets tough, and we did. -
I don't know much about the other teams, but this should be a good measuring stick for us. I'm optimistic about our chances.

MBB set to face Loyola on Friday from Reitz Arena
TigerFan54 replied to mat1992's topic in Tiger Basketball
This game worries me. Loyola isn't bad and will be hungry for a win in their home opener. Then we hit the road in FLA against better competition for three straight nights. Would be nice to get a W heading into that stretch. -
At 6-6, 190, he's a string bean. Would be nice if he had more meat on his bones and was a dual threat.
