12 hours ago, mat1992 said:Ok, this overall freshman class looks pretty damn good and we added:
1)A potential starting RB in Ike Watkins who was a 3* recruit from Virginia who played some at Syracuse.
2)After losing Mason Woods to the portal, LB John Gioia (Wagner) is an experienced inside linebacker who had 85 tackles to rank third in the NEC last season. Also, lost Jamal Gay to graduation.
We add Gioia (6-1, 230), William Middleton (5-11, 215) a Saint Francis transfer, who was second-team All-NEC last season with 68 tackles. LB Brandon Peters (6-1, 215) from Iowa Central CC. adds 4.6 40 speed. Three linebackers but desperately need an EDGE. Can still add a transfer after the spring.
3)DBs were a problem last season and our best player Robert Javier is attempting to make some $$$ at the next level. Aside from some VERY talented freshmen, who may or not be ready, Pete Shinnock added Kaden White (6-1, 190), a transfer from Butler CC, who had 3 picks last season and also played at Miss. Valley State for two seasons, Was a 2* recruit coming out of HS. They added four freshmen DBs.
4)Defensive line is always an issue. Jesus Gibbs is gone. They added three freshmen, but they desperately need to replace Gibbs and add some interior pass rush.
5)Offensive line loses Mathias Adjingbaruk to the portal. They should return LT Dan Volpe, C Ralph Paige, RT/G Jean Germain, RG/T K.J. Brooks. A bunch of freshmen who sat out including Ian Markham-Miller. They added Ibrahim Giwa (6-4, 29) from Marist, who can play left or right tackle though may play left guard to replace Mathias. Was second-team All-Pioneer League. Added two big freshmen who should sit out but look at KJ Brooks last season. He eventually became one of the best linemen.
6)Quarterback. Towson didn't sign one in the late signing period. In the Early period, they signed UMass transfer Carlos Davis (6-2, 220), a Baltimore native. They signed another Baltimore QB in Winston Watkins. Assuming Scott Smith, Sean Brown, and Nathan Kent return along with r-freshman Jack Pellicciotti, it doesn't appear that they will be adding another QB.
Bottom line is that they wanted more speed and they apparently achieved that. Still need help on the D-line and at OLB/EDGE, probably use another transfer corner and OL. WRs and RBs should be improved with addition of Watkins and now the emergence of Chris Watkins. They added some young WRs, but could use one burner transfer and one tall receiver to replace Daniel Thompson. DK James should have one more year left and his return would be a nice boost to team with Zay Perkins, Londono, 6-2 John Dunmore (who just became eligible late in the season) and Cee Chosen (banged up).
Mat thank you for your excellent information and breakdown of these incoming players. I never get too high or too low when looking at recruiting classes because you just never know when dealing with athletes that play on our level. That being said and of course only time will tell of course how successful this group of players is, I give credit to Pete and his staff as they seemed to have a plan and looks like they followed through on it.

Any chance of a qb popping up today?

Talk about wash, rinse, repeat. It seems like we have seen and said the same things for a while now, poor offense, lack of groundballs, turnovers, losing face off battle. I do think Downs had his moments and kept the game from truly getting out of control. Hopkins almost had as many shots on goal in the second half as we did all game. Where as every goal we scored seemed like it was a struggle, Hopkins had too many open shots.
Mr. Anti-Flosports Guy here enjoyed watching Towson on ESPNU and although they butchered the highlight package it was nice to see them talk about the 1989 Towson double OT win over Hopkins in the tournament, talk about that roster and then their NCAA Runner-up run in 1991.
The sad thing is that lacrosse had always been our best chance to win a D-I NCAA Championship and as more and more bigger schools get into the sport that chance gets slimmer and slimmer every year.

For one bid conferences Lunardi puts the first-place team in his Bracketology so the Dragons should still remain.

Tough times for the print world, but LA Times really doesn't need a beat writer for the Dodgers. They only need to write 3 stories on the Dodgers for this upcoming season because for the most part their season ends the same.
Story #1 the week of Opening Day "Dodgers start 2024 season as NL West and pennant favorites!"
Story #2 mid to end of July "Dodgers add (insert hot free agent to be pitcher)"
Story #3 sometime mid-September Dodgers clinch 2024 NL West Division title."
Story #4 in October "Dodgers fall in 6 games to (Braves, Phillies, D-Back, you name it)"
I know I said 3 stories but I added the trade story as I was typing!

Wow, the Sun sent someone to the game? Nice.

Let's go Tigers! Although I have to say I get a little bit nervous when extra eyes start focusing on the squad. Seems like we usually end up on the wrong side when the lights start pointing more towards the Tigers.

Off to a very nice start. Although I hope he continues to develop and improve, the only problem with that in today's transfer portal/NIL world is we may only have him for 1 or 2 more years. Enjoy him while we can!

A great sign of just where this conference is, is that in an article where they mention a small nugget about 32 conferences the thing they have to say about the great Coastal Athletic Conference is that a 6'7" player from Delaware is shooting 88% from the free throw line.

As much as I bitch and moan about Joey D and his ridiculous Flosports deal, maybe I should be thanking him instead. If they were on ESPN+ I probably would have wasted part of my Saturday afternoon watching that garbage. Mat predicted the short turn around having an afternoon start after an embarrassing delay and then OT and having to travel, could be an issue but to me that can't be an excuse. I know we never play well in Boston but these "winnable" games on the road we hardly ever win.
You are what your record says you are and in our case, it is good enough to get an extension to continue the mediocrity.

Tigers -4.5 total 130.5. This team is too unpredictable for me to put any units on this squad. Go(h) Tigers!

Stunned. This is reprehensible. Unless there are some things listed in that extension that we do not know about there was no reason or need to extend this contract. 13 years with 4 or 5 conference tournament finals appearances and maybe 1 or 2 NCAA tournament bids is too long to stay with one coach. As we all know this coach has ZERO conference tournament finals appearances and ZERO NCAA tournament bids. That's ZERO (let me check to make sure) CAA conference appearances, I just wanted to make sure we somehow ended up in the ACC for a few years during that 13 year run.
By the way. When you want to release information but do not want to make big waves about it what do you do? You release it or let it slip out on a Friday. Towson doubled down on this by having this information "leak", "slip" however you want to say it by giving it to the school newspaper. Kudos to Jake Shindel, who I think does a phenomenal job and probably is Towson's best prospect to go work in "professional sports", but if the athletic department was truly excited about the extension news a huge press release is sent out with media availability to all tv stations and the Sun.
This is an admission by the department and probably a realization we all need to recognize that for what we have to pay a basketball coach we ain't getting one better than Pat and if we were to let him go the replacement would probably also becoming from a West Florida type level school.

Monmouth next week.. can’t wait. Our quest for the dance starts. After seeing what Wake Forest has done I think we have a solid group to make a run at this thing.
Gonna be a fun ride.. enjoy.
1991All right Bay Area a fellow Philadelphia 4 for 4 guy!

He chose Kansas over UCONN or anyone else because he probably is receiving the most money from Kansas. All things being even and if it did come down to Kansas and UCONN they both probably have equal opportunity to win, probably provided an equal opportunity of playing time. Promised NIL money might have been a tipping point. I have never been a Bill Self fan, but I have been following Kansas closely this year because I know a starting freshman on the team. Watching videos he posted and Kansas post in addition to the money the accommodations they provide their players is insane. Like a basketball court IN their dormitory.

What are the chances that those students had no idea who were giving them coffee and bagels? Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if most didn't. "I was at the library this morning and it was cool a man and a woman were walking around handing out free coffee and bagels."

Yikes! Last week I thought we had a chance to hang tough with them, then I saw that Maryland's three loses were against ranked teams. Hope this doesn't effect them the rest of the year.

This Umass message board thread is pretty funny. Someone actually commented that if they got rid of Martin they should hire Skerry. Hope that person is enjoying whatever they were drinking!

A free Happy Hour at Gators? Is Gators even open or am I dating myself. Let's drop the Arcadia game and get Loyola on the schedule so we can get a true city sweep!

As a longtime fan of the other TU (Temple) back in the John Chaney days, that statement to me is almost equal to "We beat the Blue Chickens". I just hope that's not our "signature" win of the year.

Still on team #stoptheflo, but they are showing the game for free tonight. Good for us that do not get Monument Sports. Now the question is will the men out draw the 2,100 the women drew this afternoon.
