The year 2011 just called and it said while it’s grateful that Skerry pulled the program from the abyss, it’s also ok to hold Skerry accountable  for never having made it to a conference championship game, if not, you know, actually winning such a game.

It’s laudable he graduates players. Other coaches graduate players AND win conference tournaments and go to the dance. Graduating players is one metric; it’s not the only one.

Serious question-let’s assume we don’t make it to a conference championship game this season, and the 3 after, which would take us to the end of Skerry’s contract, absent another extension. Notice I didn’t say he actually wins the game, but I set the bar at him simply getting us to the finals. Would you advocate that he get yet another extension?

Lol. There’s not talking to that person. I’m surprised they even showed up. But he probably sees the writing on the wall that there may not be a win again this year and next years home Opener against goucher is a long way away.

This argument cannot exist in perpetuity, to justify keeping a coach with, by any objective measure, a DISMAL postseason record, can it?🤷‍♂️🤔

He’s a 500 coach.right around it and pitiful in big games.
That guy makes it seem like he didn’t have the advantage of; more support, higher salaries, new arena, easier recruiting, academic support, a weaker league and more money did I mention that?!  He’s still no closer than Kennedy was

I frequent the message board of the other "TU" that is a 90 minute drive up 95. As I was perusing their board this morning, I realized Temple's women's coach is EXACTLY what the title of this thread is talking about.  Coach Richardson spent 5 years at Towson had success and used us as a stepping stone for another opportunity.  Picked to finish 9th in the AAC they are currently tied for first.  Some on their message boards call that team North Towson!

That’s what we need to be. No coach should ever be here longer than their first contract and maybe another 1-2 years.

Hey Im just as frustrated as anyone else with this loss to Hampton. It was a horrible loss that shouldn’t have happened and was embarrassing.

what’s your thought calling me out on this topic? You still think I’m coaches son?

    Something we can agree on.

I met the new prez at the UNCW game. He seemed to think the world of PS. I told him I wasn't a fan, but he didn't ask me to elaborate.

Unfortunately so does the one in charge of athletics, from my experience.

The program is just a joke that he’s 500 and will be here 15+ years with not even sniffing march

We need an offensive minded assistant coach to come in. Clearly Kupa, O’Connell, and Skerry aren’t getting it done and it’s been the same crew with the same results  for 10+ years.

maybe Tejada or May gets poached by a A-10 team like Dayton but I don’t see anybody stealing DW away from us. OTOH i was wrong before with Chris Bieku finding a new home

Well one you named is a DBO so if he’s working on the offense, that’s a bigger issue

I am not fully disagreeing here, but the thing that makes this game so frustrating is there is enough talent there because it is not a great conference this year. This is a mediocre conference, and we have beaten the top three teams (four of the top five) at some point (I know two have come at home and that is a big difference from doing it on a neutral court). An effort like this when we are in the mix for regular-season conference title (which I know some of you don't care about, but I do) is inexcusable. I don't like the style or the sub patterns. They are too inconsistent and they don't seem to fit the players. The players also completely no-showed in the first half. This season is not over despite what some say, but obviously it is ridiculous loss. I don't think anyone would disagree with that. I can't be positive after a crap loss like this, but we have been much better at home (although our starts there have been bad lately too) so I am just wondering what Jekyl and Hyde version shows on Thursday and Saturday this week.

Towel is thrown in. There’s next to no chance to win the regular season. And to win the tournament is even less of a chance.  Pat has never won 2 games in a row in March.

Thanks but expecting that response but just showing how anybody can lose to another team in this wonderful league. Just when  I thought UNCW was the team to beat, they aren’t. Monmouth could get hot and win this league because they have a star player. We do not have that.

Sure. But there’s only been one team to lose to Hampton so

  7. 17 minutes ago, Tiger93 said:

It is a little too reductive to say good teams aren't good at offensive rebounding. Houston is fifth in the nation in offensive rebounding and they are pretty good. However, your point that the combination of bad layup percentage, subpar three-point shooting, horrible free-throw shooting and inconsistency of taking care of the ball make being a good offensive-rebounding team less relevant makes sense to me.

I really have a hard time with our defense, because it had a lot of breakdowns yesterday (13-18 layups for Hampton) and has had them at times this season. Ultimately, I think the defense can play at a high level, but it is too inconsistent to label really good. We had an awesome start defensively in the conference, but we have seen some opponents play well against it recently. I also think the offense has been so bad in so many games it makes it hard to realistically assess the defense. I look at it like bad offense in football. The defense can only be good for so long before the dam breaks.

Cougars may be the exception. They aren’t great offensively though. But their defense is elite and Sampson is a great coach.

Hampton shot 45.5 and 33.3 yesterday. Is that great? No (but we would love to shoot like that). But it’s not bad either.  Team that cannot score the ball and has low basketball iq on the court and on the coaching staff, needs to be good or better on defense.

Playing at a snails pace helps but 4 road losses allowing an average of 60 points…  against 2 bad teams. Ain’t good

I’ve been waiting for the right time to post this, think this is the correct time and place.

At this level in basketball and football a coach should be here no longer than 5 years. They are either doing a great job and moving up or doing a lousy job and getting canned.

The decade of mediocrity we had with both Ambrose and Skerry have done no one any favors and put athletics in a malaise and lead to general apathy about athletics on campus.

IMHO the early success that both Ambrose and Skerry had was due to their contacts they had recruiting at a higher level and bringing in top level transfers (plus Terrance West falling in his lap).

Once those connections waned they both got comfortable and performance dropped. We need to be known as a “launching pad” for coaches and keep building off of the previous coaches success.

    Great post. 100% accurate.

You’re correct, that there are outliers, and Coen is a good example. The difference though is, unlike our coach, at least Coen has been to the dance. In such a case, if a coach wants to establish roots, it’s a nice feel good story. In our case, after 13 years of postseason futility, the expiration date on the milk carton has expired. Unfortunately, I fear it’ll eventually be 16 years of such futility. I assume Skerry will soon be lobbying for yet another extension, claiming his ability to recruit will be hamstrung if he’s a short timer. (A somewhat dubious claim, given that the advent of the portal has resulted in a pool of short term rentals). And of course, citing to the fact he graduates kids & they do community service. I can only hope our AD & new President don’t fall for this. If they do, they might as well just give him a lifetime contract and be done with it

Huskies fans are wanting to show Coen the door. Not privy to his contact situation but assuming he is fired, skerry would be the longest tenured coach in the league.  Let that set in.  He already is the longest tenured coach to not make the dance or a final, in the ENTIRE COUNTRY.

As I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, I have serious doubts about the ability of this staff to develop the players they bring in.

Most players don’t develop.  Morsell. Timberlake. Who else? Jon Davis maybe?

I can tell you ones who didn’t. Hicks. Gibson. Keith.  TJ. McNeil.  Tunstall Thomas. Etc. those are the 4 year guys not the ones who transferred in and or guys who got kicked out

To my non friends point above. Sylla was a d2 all American. D2 is very different than d1. But we expected slightly more than what he provided.  Suliman has given us likely what we expected.  He wasn’t going to go 12-10 but his defense has been a bit disappointing )”(like most on our team)

What an effed up league. UNCW goes from beating Kentucky on the road to losing at home to Elon, their first home loss of the season on their Homecoming. Maybe we beat them for worst loss of the day, but it's close.

I also have to think something is up with Trazerian White. He missed the last game and it wasn't due to injury issues. Had 12 points tonight off the bench.

No our loss against a 3-23 team that hasn’t won a home game in a year was worse

  11. 10 hours ago, TSU88 said:

Bingo. I’ve said it before, being one of the leaders in offensive rebounds is terribly misleading, because in addition to missing the first shot, more often than not we miss the second one (and even the third one) as well. Please bring in better shooters!!!

Yup. There’s a reason good teams aren’t good at offensive rebounding. Good teams score. Which means they make shots which means they don’t miss said shots and thus cannot or do not need to chase down their misses.
Like our defense. It’s ok not good. But we play so slow it helps masks everything. We do not defend that well. Teams shoot a decent % against us. But only getting 61 possessions limits their points

Again, an awful game and three coach again ducks the post game? Where the F is the accountability?!  Loser move by pat

While you may not have seen this loss coming, you also shouldn’t be the least bit surprised by it or any of the future embarrassing losses we’re bound to suffer with Skerry at the helm.

This loss is far more indicative of who & what we are as a program than any of our wins this season.

3-23. This is skerrys worst (and there are a lot) loss. The joke of the league, your Towson tigers!

Ok “2” accounts blocked!!??  Why not just ignore comments.  I have a real issue with this.  Does this board block anyone..  NO.

Blocking comments makes us look so bush league.

Lol. Plenty of your classmates have blocked me here. Take that as a badge of honor. And, no I’m not either of those.

there are plenty of gambling Assholes who comment crap. Block them, fine.  Those other posts from actual fans were questioning coaching and execution.  That’s an awful look but it’s Towson and Pat no show Skerry. Do we expect anything less???

To the 10 or so of us who post here, I pose the following questions:

    (1) If you’re a coach of another team, is there anyone on our roster you’re salivating over trying to poach? Tejada, maybe. May? Perhaps a lateral move, but would a bigger program covet him?  My point is, we just don’t have an abundance of talent;

    (2) if you’re a talented scorer in high school or the portal, do you want to come play for a coach who is determined to play at the slowest pace in the country, and who’s track record of getting to his conference championship game is perfect, in a negative sense

    1. Yes because there’s some talent that you can hope to develop. Mays not bad defensively and Tejada is a tall shooter. Both wouldn’t “cost” much and would want to play for a winning program. Not saying they can go power 5. We know how that went with Timberlake. Sheesh. But could play for a real program like uncw or Charleston. Or a10.

    2. We’ve all been thinking this for years. Most of these guys are under recruited. A second team all NJ player going to Towson?? Again sheesh.  Kids want instant gratification and playing time (not to sit or be redshirted until they learn defense). Some skerry lovers would say we want instant gratification after 14 years of nothing to show 🤷‍♂️

Why would he go anywhere. He has it made here. Does not have to win yet gets extensions....some made public, some not.  However, we must admit it is difficult to build a program given the NIL and Portal situations when you are on the short end of the finances. But, maybe that is why he gets half a million...top overcome the obstacles.

Has he overcome obstacles?  Which? His own lack of coaching?

NIL is what year 2?  Kelsey and siddle have machines going at their schools. Guess what they don’t have football to suck the money out.  But we lost to Hampton, ne, Monmouth hostra and Delaware in league. (I can Bring up thr weak ooc schedule and bad losses there but won’t). Are all of those schools offering more? Besides Hofstra I would bet now

All of Hampton’s wins this season.

An absolutely UNACCEPTABLE loss. No way to spin it. No credit for clawing back into the game. Unacceptable.

But but. They are “talented” we weren’t healthy. Two road games in a row.  Whatever excuses the pat crew will ramble off

the opponent played 5 states away on Thursday and then lost their best player half way through and still won.  STOP with the damn excuses

  18. 23 minutes ago, mat1992 said:

Yeah, we thought the Monmouth loss was bad, but they are decent this season. I'm not excusing this loss, but I'm not entirely shocked because we're not that talented and not good enough to show up against any team. Yes, that's on Pat and the Watson injury was devastating but he's not Michael Jordan. Pat's not going anywhere, but he may need to clean house again with a few players and while the transfer portal is not kind to teams with little $$$, have to find a way to get players from somewhere whether it NAIA, D2, juco. low D1 on the cheap.

Things that should not happen late in the season and happened today

*May stepping out of bounds twice

*Charles continuing to throw the ball away late in games or losing the ball

*Tarke throwing up short floaters that hit nothing

*Williamson coming up empty offensively consistently

*Free throw bricks from Lowery and Thompson. I get it with Lowery, you have to play him for his D

*Coming out another game with no energy. It's not the lineup. Coach has to get these guys up for the game. Maybe start with a legit press or a zone press. Start in a zone or do something funky. Start or play Jaiden Cole for 2 minutes since his redshirt is nearly burned.

Monmouth is pretty good and has 3/4 guys who would start on our team.  Hampton was 3-23 going into today. THERE SHOULD BE NO FUCKING EXCUSES

Year 13 and still losing games like this.

  19. 25 minutes ago, mat1992 said:

Hampton does have talent. Ask Hofstra. But we came out there just going to Charles a few times, going through the motions, didn't guard the three, got killed on the hedge early and they got confidence as the game went on. They could have folded as they usually do but we were the team that folded in the end. That's unacceptable.

    3-23.  But has talent. Yup

  20. 1 minute ago, sr16 said:

I will also say that I thought this season was over before it started. these games happen. Need to finish the year strong.

Hampton was 3-23 and hadn’t won at home all year.  Their best player didn’t play half the game.  So what are you saying? This can’t happen. Sorry
