    ESPN+

The production quality was bad as always and the PxP guy was a total homer (the color guy was much better) but hey it was free for me since I have the Disney, Hulu Espn bundle and was able to pull it up on my TV through Hulu with no issues. Being able to do that and not some hack job streaming service DC United cut mid-season years ago made me feel like I was a real college football fan for maybe the first time since 2013 when with our playoff games on ESPN2 or U and going to Frisco felt like what I imagine a bowl game feels like. It was only a few hours for one game but a man can dream...

Personally not a fan. Again, we are never going to be Baltimore's anything it also alienates the rest of the state who can pronounce words correctly.

Yes, good more changes, please. Even if they all fail at least we are trying to not just be status quo.

    College Football at this level

It's clear we are never going to be in the new college football Super League so for me I like us being good at this level; whatever that is. I see FCS (likely non-Super League FBS too ) just becoming like minor league baseball or hockey. Those teams turn over every year and most players don't make it to the show but the community gets excited when the team is good. Every once in a while a kid clearly will become a star and you follow them and cheer for them as they move along. I never cared about UVA but when Shane went there for the covid season I followed them. Super League = MLB/NHL FBS Group of 5 = AAA/AHL FCS = AA/ECHL Who doesn't love a good Baysox game? Just be that and people will be happy. Now Marketing, realizing, becoming that, and listening to fans, etc. - that's the achilles heel of Towson. We are always caught in the middle with endless higher education bureaucrats either 1) thinking we are going to be something to the greater Baltimore area or 2) will kill any sense of fun/school pride the second a drunk student sets foot in a parking lot. If we can ever realize no one in Baltimore or even Towson city cares about Towson unless they went there and focus on building our alumni and student engagement we can have an avid fanbase without being on ESPN in with a 100,000 person stadium.

We can basically guarantee a game vs JMU. the lazy broadcaster "they used to be rivals in the CAA" is too easy for them to pass up. Queue talking about JMU moving to FBS football and the power 5 blowing up the NCAA after that for the following 5 minutes.

    Transfers vs. non-Transfers

If they can win I don't care transfer or not. Long term it would be nice to have a better development pipeline but I'm fine being Transfer U

    Story on CAA expansion

Yes! we need to figure the TV thing first and foremost. Everything not on a normal (aka anything but Flo) streaming platform should be free on the school digital networks or CAA TV. I never minded the old TSN broadcast because they were free. I think the MVFC is not the SEC of FCS but I do remember and miss those days. Right now the CAA is maybe the big 10 but more likely the big 12. I also doubt it will happen but Texas and OU left the big 12 or the SEC; so a package of W&M, UD and Towson to the MVFC would be too different of an idea. Agreed it's all money for the Power 5 but what I don't agree with is UMD and Rutgers bringing the DC and NYC markets. Maybe 20 years ago when DMAs mattered for TV but now everything is streaming so it doesn't matter where you live. I'd also very much argue Maryland barely has the DC market, no one in VA cares. Rutgers even less for NYC. I bet Penn State gets higher viewership in DC than UMD. Let alone with the fact with Maryland and Rutgers will never be competitive which will drive down interest even more in urban areas with other, better entertainment. Non of these are perfect ideas but if I'm Dr. E i'm on the phone constantly looking to work on something better than the current CAA. We look even better if we are a package with W&M and UD.

    Story on CAA expansion

I never understood a couple of things related to all this conference realignment stuff why keep rehashing old conferences instead of starting a new one? the power 5 on down. ie what does Vandy bring to the SEC? Rutgers and Maryland in the big 10, etc. Smaller is better...because you might be able to actually win once in a while. The power 5 is trying to be the NFL 2.0; who cares, that isn't going to be us. Why does the CAA keep bailing out schools from the A10 and Big East with football? Play hardball, if they want to play football at this level join the conference in all sports I realized Villanova and Richmond will never do this but make that the Patriots league problem. Rhody would have to at least consider if the CAA 2.0 was attractive Let's assume we need 10 schools for a conference. Find 10 like-minded schools and stick together. State schools, in Northeast that play FCS football: Towson Delaware W&M UNH Maine Albany Stony Brook VMI Youngstown (i'm sure they would rather come east than go to the Dakotas) Rhody Backups The Citadel Central Conn Another option is to try and join the Missouri Valley Football Conference and break away as an all sports league with an east and west. Work out some deal for the Illinois schools to always play each other and that is a great looking conference to me. Again, sizeable state schools that play FCS football. This might even be a multi bid basketball league in some years. It's far better in MBB than the new CAA. East: Towson UD W&M Youngstown Murray State Indiana State Illinois State Eastern Illinois (from the OVC) West: North Dakota State North Dakota South Dakota State South Dakota Northern Iowa Missouri State Western Illinois Southern Illinois

Press Box Interview with Steve Eigenbrot

Alumni engagement If he plans to stop trying to be "Baltimore's team" (it's never going to happen) and focus more on the Towson community Bringing back something like T-Unit - student leadership to help drive attendance Engagement with more avid fan (aka us on here - does he even know about this site) I remember I only learned about the old CAA Zone because they used to advertise it during football games on the PA It's always been strange to me that we don't have like a fan engagement townhall, forum, or survey. When I was a season ticket holder for the Caps they would survey me and ask me questions about my experience all the time.

Also look to minor league baseball for ideas. People love antics.

    Wake Forest preview

Yeah, I think it all comes down to what type of teams show up. Who is more motivated by missing the NCAAs vs dejected.

    Down but not out

i'm happy with the NIT. we still get a banner to put in the arena from this millennium

    Pain...

actually watched the game and got my hopes up - still unsure if that is a good or bad thing good - I started to care and had hoped we could actually win something for the first time since the 2013 FCS championship game bad - we Towson'ed like always silver lining - this team got me to care AND my emotional investments are much lower each year

    Crowd

Not super shocking for a noon game vs the 8 seed. I'd still be sleeping by the time the bus left if I was still in school. Hopefully, they keep sending the buses for whoever will get on. I never understood why we basically don't require greek kids to go. Tie game attendance to whatever funding they get

    YOUR CAA REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS

So you are telling me all I had to do was to move 3000 miles away and we'd win something????? If I knew that I would have moved away years ago. 🤣 It is legit a bummer that I used to be a 10 minute metro ride from the arena where we for the first time since I was 4 have a real chance to make the tournament. Regardless if we make the NCAAs I'm going but San Diego or Portland would sure be a nice trip.

Towson hires Steve Eigenbrot as new AD

wow I was expecting this search to take a year. seems like a good get on paper but we'll see. MW was a marketer, TL an admin/fundraiser (not sure that held up). SE seems to follow the TL path, major gifts, but he did oversee ticketing so maybe he gets the concept that you have to actually promote the programs for people to come. it's one thing to sell tickets and fundraise at an SEC school with no pro sports team in the state; it's another to have to create demand at a mid-major/FCS school

What is up with Attendance & Game Promotion?

We've been talking about this randomly in other threads, figured I start one specially dedicated to attendance and ( lacking) game promotion. Some topics to get us started: Student attendance: very weak. Yes, I do think back to back to back home games and the late start to the home schedule let freshmen settled into college life without football. However, even with giveaways and a ranked team (top 25 match up this past week) we can't seem to draw nearly as many students as in years past, even when we sucked. NO STUDENTS STOOD DURING EITHER GAME AND MADE ZERO NOISE. We need to get some student organization back involved. When I was in school it was T-Unit then came along Doc's Army... now??? Tailgating: Walked over to lot 13 & 14 during the home opener, it was just sad. What happened to the awesome tailgating in lot 14? Bad tailgating hurts student attendance as well. I know the school wants to be the morality police (Deb Moriarty in particular) but come on gotta let the kids be kids and enjoy something that is supposed to bring the college experience together. Lot 21 tailgating seems fine and basic (my spot is on that side). However, lot 21 could really be upped with an area set up to sell food and beer, saving the donors from having to bring everything. Also both tailgate sides should have a pop up team shop. The one places that is always popping during games is the team store, alumni want to buy stuff! SELL IT TO THEM. Tickets: $50 for season tickets? So cheap and yet we can't seem to sell them? Not claiming to know an answer here. Game promotions: Do they even promote game on campus? General question, I have no idea but when I was in school they had signage up all over game weeks, cheerleaders and players would hang out in the union giving out flyers. Regardless of that, to the general fan the athletics staff is really just following the generic game day promotions playbook. (Home opener, Pink Game, Parents Weekend, Homecoming, Senior Day) My high school had better themes. The only thing missing from the generic playbooks is hometown heroes and first responders (vomit) and if we had six home games I bet that would be it. Food: I feel like the food has been the same for 15 years. Nothing healthy or fresh, no grilled options (hot dogs are boiled), drinks are soda and Gatorade no tea or other limited sugar options. Why no bring third party brands? Boardwalk fires, chickfila, any pizza brand, etc. Booze: Turtle on the track is a nice addition but it keeps people out of their seats. Just sell booze in the stands...its 2018... The food also sucks down there. Positive the beers are cheap! Field House: Having it open during the game keeps people from going to their seats. Keep it open for bathrooms or whatever but encourage people back into the stadium Sponsors: Do we have any good ones? Do we pay UA or do they pay us? Also WTF is New Day USA? Looks like a scam to me. It's just mind boggling to me an athletics department connected to a school with a large business program and marketing department (which I am a graduate from) can't seem to understand the basics of generating awareness and interest. Run an internship program??? Having radio/prints/tv ads is a massive waste of money and not relevant in driving interest in 2018. We are stuck looking like clowns with a half full stadium on game day with a 1990's playbook on how to address 2018 sports entertainment. Call up DC United, Ted Leonsis and ask/beg them for some basic tips. My only ask is to not get cheap and call Dan Synder. Free advice just don't do whatever it is we are doing and whatever it is dan synder would do.

    Towson/Delaware game suspended

Right, this does not happen without a failure in oversight. PS mentioned in his press conference the women's team has noted this issue before.
