  1. When I first heard it I was like how does the roof leak in a brand new building? Seems like that was not the case but condensation? Still kind of hard to tell from the write-ups what the players actually slipped on.

Whoever is in charge of the building needs to get in touch with the court people and the builders ASAP. I'm assuming some type of insurance would pay to fix this unless it's just our floor mopping people are that incompetent and it was just a cleaning issue.

    • Check the mopping/cleaning agent and process
    • What was the humidity/temp outside vs in? Call an HVAC expert before anyone else touches that court. WBB using the floor today is a bad idea. Hope no one gets hurt.
    • We are owed a full explanation for this not the lack of 'game suspended for unsafe conditions BS'. When I saw the twitters updates then nothing for like an hour I was concerned something way more serious happen.
    • Use the TC until this gets sorted

A small part of me thinks this is TL's final revenge. Like when MW left we found out he drastically overspent on marketing and f-ed the dept financially. Is this the cause of TL trying to save money due to all the covid increases in costs and cutting budget on facilities? It would not shock me one bit. Regardless something is very wrong with Towson athletics culturally...and has been for years. Turning around the culture has to be the first priority of the new AD.  You have too many people working within the department that clearly don't give an f about trying to get Towson to reach our potential. New AD must root that out and I realize it very will be very hard at a public institution to fire people.

  2. I dunno seems like a fine reference to me.  He is just saying if you are a 4-5 deep on an SEC team (national champs) why would you give that up to start (maybe star but who knows) in the FCS? At WR4 you still are going to play in games.

He is saying the transfer portal and NIL markets are too hot right now. (DOGE to the MOOOOON!) Similar to other investments the transfer market will course correct. NILs will become lower as Brands see the (lack of) value.  Honestly you will see a few players make big bucks but WR4 isn't getting Brand deals even in the the SEC. If someone really want to maximize the NIL go to a rural school, become a star then the local Chipotle will pay you to be in a commercial.

Some guys will still transfer down, which is a win for us. But more will realize hey the grass is not always greener. You still have to compete here.

  3. back to the AD topic. any idea when they are going to start doing the first set of screening or even just laying out the criteria for the ideal candidate?

to 88's point above the new AD needs to focus on that sentiment. It's a pretty tired take IMO. I never viewed Towson as a commuter school growing up in the DC area; I very much doubt all the kids from PA, Jersey and New York do. College park and Mason are suburbs of DC, yet both have athletic success at various levels. the point being there are plenty of schools in major metro areas that still create a connection to campus through athletics.  Towson needs to stop trying to be 'Baltimore's this... Baltimore's that..'  Realize that Baltimore as a whole isn't going to care and focus on the people who have a connection to the school.  Just as a mind shift I'd love for people to start thinking of Towson as Maryland's....(pay a branding agency here - honestly anything but teachers college or affordable... no one likes to be called cheap)

Football should and will be prioritized. Not going to be in FCS forever. There is a separation in FBS already between P5 and G5 and at some point it will officially be divided by scholarships.

Our facilities are about to be improved. Need to add COA. Now we need to win either with current coach or next coach. Excuses are running out with JMU leaving.

100% agree. Basketball is nice but we have no history and does not drive revenue.

  5. Okay we do have a few. WVU, UL and St John's but all before current students (+ players/recruits) were alive. I was in second grade during the Louisville win so even a large chunk of the peak earning (donating age) alumni are not old enough to remember those days.

Also agree I'd trade any of those for the tourney. I was 4 the last time we made the dance. 👶

  6. I'm like okkkayyyy with the “moral victory"... on the road, top 25 team, quick turnaround, blah blah blah but man if we could just win one of these games. Can you imagine the SECU crowd for a home game following a top 25 upset? Or any top program really even if they are on a down year. JMU beat UVA. Charleston has beaten UNC in years past. It would be nice to just have one victory to point back and say "hey, remember that time when Towson beat..."

To me is actually kind of sad how little these people make considering the work they are (supposed to be) doing. Any C-suite that oversees a comparable-sized private company is making millions no questions asked. Note I said supposed to be - in general, I imagine most people in this line of work are higher ed bureaucrats - not motivated by results.

With that in mind, we need to consider who does this type of work - someone not as motivated by money or had already made it.

You look for two types of people:

    • someone young at a smaller program who has shown success winning and building facilities in revenue sport.
      • uses technology, new innovative ways of approaching an issue, and efficiency to beat their peers
      • like for the love of god find some creative way to get us out of flo
    • someone who has already made their money, has a connection to Towson, and is ready to 'retire' from whatever hectic job they have now
      • not going to move as fast but has money and connections. wants more out of towson then just a paycheck

  8. Uuggh same old story is right. Watch the game with a buddy of mine, a Wake alum who would be more than happy to see an ACC foe get upset. I said to him with about 5 minutes to go "I bet you we still lose by 5."  Sure enough, the ACC refs call a couple of questionable fouls on us and we forget to run any offense and we lost by 4.

WTF was that blocking call - even the ACC network announcers were like that isn't a foul

1)We voted against FLO. 2)He didn't hire either hoops or football coach. RA deserved to be extended. Not his fault that they struggled last few years or that he couldn't find a QB aside from Flacco. 3)State money helps but not the only reason they built a FH field, new Soccer Field, new practice facilities and new academic facilities in the field house just to name a few. Hopefully Field House extension and premium seats at the U plan will remain intact. 4)Hired a new WBB coach who did something nobody ever did before and that's win the CAA. Same can be said about the women's track coach and Vball coach. I wasn't sure about him at the beginning after following MW, but he did a solid job when you realize the hurdles he had to jump over (starting with Pres. Schaetzel).

    • Interesting points, and worth softening my tone a bit (I had no idea we voted against FLO) however good leaders still know they are accountable for even decisions out of their control.
    • If we voted against FLO and we knew the CAA was headed in the downward direction with Joey D (what a clown) why didn't we better prepare for a way out?

    • I'd love to know more here. What's that drama with Schaetzel? I thought people liked her? But I have no idea other than they send me a lot of letters to donate and the Rise campaign seems like a good thing.

  10. Exciting news! Never been a fan of TL.

If he was a fine fundraiser and administrator okay (I never noticed his impact). I'll give him the facilities did improve (I believe from state money) but he never brought winning to the major sports (football and mbb) which would drive any real growth in fundraising. The fact that the CAA went from being a good mid-major league and the best conference in the FCS to low major and second or third best in the FCS under TL's watch with no plans or ability to set us up for the latest round of realignment is on TL. Inaction is action and no plans are plans.

You don't fundraise by winning national championships in community service....

To me Flo/the CAA and middling coaching in major sports killed TL's career here but he did nothing to stop either.

WILD CARD - I've said this before on past threads Coach Rich should be the CEO of basketball. PS reports to her and she can run both programs.   Let's take that one more step.. Coach Rich should be the AD.  She actually plays (home games) and wins vs power 5 teams, has a player get drafted, won the conference, and has a successful business background. Hire her ASAP!
