Ugh no. Vermont is good and getting a nice new gym but unh and Maine are awful hoops schools. Not to mention travel will be awful.
I do think there’s a certain coach on auburn drive that would enjoy unh and bill herrion in his conference… 😉 lol

Charleston is 45mins close to Towson than Orono driving time. I don't see that as more awful than what we currently have. We are already going to Boston for Northeastern. At least if you get a cluster of new england schools you have travel partner options and flying comes into play. We already fly to Orono for football as it is.

Charleston's travel partners opportunities are UNCW and Elon. 3.5 & 5 hours away driving. Orono to Boston is 4 hours for context. Albany to Burlington is 3 hours. Again no worse.

Towson isn’t going anywhere. I think the obvious moves are for Stony Brook and Albany to join as full members. I wouldn’t mind Hampton just for football, but hearing Monmouth. They are in the Big South for football.

I'd also added about UNH and Maine + Vermont. UNH & Maine bring good football and Vermont decent basketball. (maybe charleston doesn't leave then?) Also, travel partners for Northeastern. Hartford is dropping to D3; rapid the football schools of the AE.

Yes with JMU(and now possibly others) making a move we are seeing other schools salivating at the idea to move into the CAA: so far I’ve seen Howard, Hampton, Monmouth UNC Greensboro, Mount st Mary’s pitching the idea out there on Twitter and this forum

None of these schools are something we should be excited about.

The CAA we joined had Mason, VCU, ODU for basketball, and JMU for football.  All local rivals.. with a marquee sport.

The (lack of) conference and our athletic leadership is a HUGE concern for me.  We should be pulling out all the stops to be package deal with W&M and UD.

  4. Monmouth, Fairfield and Greensboro is sooo dumb.

At least in the north why would you not add two schools that are already in the CAA for football. Just add all the CAA football members that are willing to come. (URI, UR and Nova are not going down leagues in bball)

    North:
    Albany
    Maine
    UNH
    Stony Brook
    Hofstra
    Northeastern
(+ whatever NE school you want)

    South:
    Charleston
    Elon
    UNCW
    Delaware
    Towson
    Drexel
    W&M

    FB only:
URI, Richmond and Nova + I bet UConn or UMass might come back if the ever give up on FBS

    11-0! 😁

More realistically the best case I see is 8-3 but could be much worse and depends on the QB play.  It's hard to know what we have as it will be ~18 months since we last saw tiger football

this did and did not age well. As much as I can dream of a 11-0 season one day the QB play has been trash+💩 and we ended up with the 'much worse' scenario.

If we do manage to go 7-4, one concern is that we’re not going to have a “signature” W, assuming, as many of us believe, that Rhode Island comes back to earth. As such, it might be helpful to our cause if URI wins a few more games (but not too many). Even though we beat them, if we finish 7-4 & they finish 8-3 or better, they could get a bid over us. The more I think about it, I can’t help but wonder if it was poor scheduling to play both SDSU and NDSU in the same season (with JMU mixed in as well). I realize schools make games with other schools years in advance, and I also acknowledge the role the almighty dollar plays, but it just seems like our schedule this season has left practically no margin for error, in terms of trying to make the playoffs

Yes!!! I've called out the stupid scheduling before and that is something we can control. (don't get me started on basketball here too) This year my very well be the LSU year all over again. (2012)  One of our best teams ever and we miss the playoffs because of two FBS losses and the committee loves UNH.

We lost to Kent State - who finished ranked 25 and LSU ranked 12th.

You know San Diago state is a top 25 school and NSDU might as well be FBS at this point.  Why would you schedule them both in the same year and BACK TO BACK weekends?

  7. One week at a time but we have hope.

We knew with our schedule we'd likely have 3 L's built in (JMU, NDSU, SDSU).  UNH is better than we expected (plus we gave them the game with the turnovers).  Win the game in front of you and move on should be the teams focus. If for some reason we shock JMU we could be a top 10 team by the end of year and everyone would be happy with the season.

If we drop the JMU game and go 7-4 I think we are still happy and a playoff team. If we drop another game at 6-5, then it's the LSU year all over again. Two (basically) FBS loses and miss the playoffs despite being a very good team. I fault the staff a bit for this schedule. NDSU is basically an FBS team, SDSU is a top 25 FBS team - we played our two hardest games of the season back to back after a conference road game.

It's up to the talent in the locker room to decide what type of team they want to be.

  8. I want to watch the game but do not want to give Flo Sports any of my money. Does anyone know if NDSU has a stream?  If not, does anyone know if you can just trial Flo then cancel or only do a month and cancel? There is literally no pricing on their website w/o giving them your email and I'm trying to avoid getting spammed

  9. No one is talking about the 4 turnovers! You can't win a game (even more so on the road) when you are minus 3 in the turnover battle.

The turnovers and lack of discipline are on Rob and I love crushing Towson coaches (remember I started the Fire Gordy stuff) but I also think we need to keep in mind this is ONE GAME vs a quality CAA team on the road.

    1. UNH is good; had a big crowd. It's also their first home game in two years. We clearly had this effect us and were not as prepared as we needed to be.
    2. I thought the D played fine. Yes the UNH kicker is not great but we forced him into longer kicks which he missed
    3. Opening with cupcake Morgan and playing NDSU next likely had us overlooking this game. (again on the coaches)
    4.  Look at the box score, we had the name number of first downs, out rushed UNH and had more TOP

We lost because we threw 4 picks and had 3x the penalty yards. Our talent is fine; just need to stop making mistakes.  If the team (and coaches) and use this as a wake up call we will be fine. If we tailspin from this time to get the Fire Rob shirts ready.

I think that's what he meant. More about premium seats and suites. Like Navy and ODU.

I want to know more about this stadium stuff. Would love to remove the track and sink the field + new front sectons to get the seats closer to the action.

It’s alright but leaves me scratching my head as to whose big idea this was? Fan attendance is some poop and the admin thinks hmmm maybe a whole tiger instead of a just tiger head inflatable will really get people to attend. Seems like a big fat waste of money. Put a better product on the field and a better party in the parking lot/stadium for the tailgate crowd/gameday Fan experience and those should be the main priorities

100% agree but we know that isn’t going to happen with this administration

Actually, I don't like it. To me, it's cartoonish.

Mascots and logos are cartoons so I just kind of expected that. It's not the classic T logo (which I also like) but hard to run out of an inflatable T.

  13. Don't love this.  As a non-Baltimore area native, i'm not excited by this since I have no local connection.

I want to see use play more competitive games but I understand the need for warm-up games

I honestly doubt anyone without a connection to either school will care. I'm tired of us trying to be 'Baltimore's team - It's just not going to happen. Focus on being better connected to alumni and build our Towson community that way not trying to lean into the geographic area.  I've said this before it's crazy to me that we have zero DC area alumni events; it's all Baltimore and some NYC and the one Orioles spring training thing in Florida.

  14. I got the "Towson Athletics Stakeholder Survey" emailed to me last week. Did other folks get it? How did you respond?

I was pretty critical in my responses that getting a SWOT analysis done by an outside consultant (Carr Sports) isn't the answer.  We need creativity, energy, innovation, fire... winning... literally any signs of life. All things that Towson Athletics has struggled with for a while (other than maybe Waddell, and he almost burnt us to the ground).  I just don't see any motivation to be better in our current staff at all.

    On last season
My AD asked after last season, what had I learned. I learned that if you don't build habits through routines, it's hard
to have success. That's what we're trying to do.  We want to build good habits. We think we have good players with
good intent. If we can build good habits, our talent can shine through.

Great recap as always. Glad you are feeling better. The write-up has me more excited than usual for MBB but I think we are all desperate for Tiger men's basketball to relevant again, so hoping it's not false excitement.

The Skerry quote about "my AD" was interesting and a weird way to phrase it. I'm shocked TL would put any pressure on results given the lack of them we have seen in the major sports during his tenure.  Maybe seats are warming up? I got the "Towson Athletics Stakeholder Survey" emailed to me last week and I was pretty critical in my responses that getting a SWOT analysis done by an outside consultant isn't the answer. I'll actually start another thread about this.
