  1. I think most college coaches hate this portal deal but of course they have to follow the current new landscape of college basketball.
Safe to say these new sleazy agents love the portal and the havoc they can wreak on the sport.  Very disappointed in the NCAA right now..  this is so out of control now.

I didn’t see this one coming. I assumed UNCW, being a basketball only school, with what I assumed is a passionate fan base, had deep enough NIL pockets to bribe White into staying, at say $50,000 or so. Assuming he leaves, I suppose it stands for the proposition that even a well funded CAA program can’t compete with the dollars offered by a motivated P5 school.

As for us adding 1 or 2 players, I’m skeptical. Even if we do, are they going to move the needle? I doubt we can persuade any D1 player who averaged in double digits to come here. It may very well be that Holden, who we got right before NIL exploded, will be the last D1 portal guy to come here (maybe not forever, but then again who knows) who averaged in double digits at his previous school. So, that leaves us fighting for scraps from the D2/NAIA bargain bin. If that means more Sylla and Suliaman types, what difference does it make. I don’t include JUCO, as I can’t remember the last time we brought a JUCO in.

What I find interesting is that if you glance at the players our assistant coaches are following in their respective twitter accounts, there’s a lot of foreign big men, which I assume is because foreign players are not allowed, under U.S. immigration law, to partake in NIL.

Agents are now throwing these incoming HS players $200-$300k just to represent them.

At the moment, no. If they find someone they like who won’t cost NIL, they might make a move.

I’m not a fan of Prolific Prep the school attended after this young man left Riordan HS.  Yes they recruit a ton of talent but USF currently has a big on their roster from there who started at Georgia Tech and has been a mess since.  “Me Me Me” types.

Oh boy.  Riordan HS in SF.
He was originally committed to USF and then a relative who was on the coaching staff left.   Definitely a project but as we know you can’t teach size.  Got some minutes for Hawaii 🌺 this past season.  If no NIL money required then sure go get em.

  5. Saint Mary’s the once solid respectable mid major has now lost 5 players due to lack of NIL funds.   Incoming freshman Sensley just got out of his letter of intent and I’m told getting offered $200k by an agent who will find him another school.
Banging a drum here but maybe Towson’s approach right now to recruiting is the way to go considering lack of NIL money!

  6. Speaking with an individual highly involved with NIL & College 🏀 today.
If players don’t live up to their NIL contracts with respect to their play on the floor they can be yanked quickly and we are seeing this in the portal now.  Players won’t disclose what happened but many have been dumped for performance which I get.  SEC schools now average $20-30 million in NIL reserves.

Uncw adds another good player. 10-7 a game BIG from Niagara.  The rest of the CAA is playing for 3rd behind the hawks and cougars

I had Ballo lined up for us and then he goes and signs with Indiana.  Told him no Mali 🇲🇱 restaurants in Bloomington but he didn’t listen.

Sucks we never got to see what Marcus could do for us

Maybe one of our diaper dandies makes us forget about Marcus?
We will be playing the youngsters even more come 2024-24’

Already discussing a t-shirt design with baby tigers 🐯 on it.

Without naming names (which, in the interest of full disclosure, I’ve already mentioned) we have, in my estimation, 5 players who either aren’t D1 caliber, or are barely (low level) D1. So, don’t include me in the camp that is satisfied that we’re “running it back “ with the same crew as last season. Change may be unpleasant in many cases, but is often necessary. If we remain stagnant, the risk of falling behind may increase, perhaps significantly.

Now the main point here is, we don’t get Rahdir Hicks back playin’ ball, we don’t have a prayer!  If he switches over to UMBC, we’re in big trouble!

Well Nolan hasn’t met our gleeful mediocre accepting fanbase and AD!

Omg.  This player wants a guaranteed nursing job for his mother at John’s Hopkins Hospital 🏥.  Can we swing that?

Small ball or stall ball?!  As long as they can hedge, rebound and not run any offense in close games, they have a spot! Well not actually, since everyone is returning…

Already working on a vendor to sell lumpia at home games once we land our first Filipino born player.

PS- Nolan Richardson today in an interview said coaches should not be around more than 5 seasons if they haven’t won anything and furthermore said today’s basketball fans expect results right away given the portal.  😉

Yeah because they are on a student visa they aren’t eligible or something.  Speaking of Mack just landed a big foreign kid from Xavier.

Again, if we have no NIL money, go to overseas players.

Agree with you. Hate the new ncaa and rules. But did anyone think that this wouldn’t happen 5 years ago or so when it was put on the table. Removing of the one time free transfer rule (minus coach leaving) and making NIL income not available during the sit out year (because hey they aren’t playing) would curb some of this

I’m working on a pipeline to Manila 🇵🇭 via my barber 💈 shop..   are we still planning to play small ball next 3-4 seasons?

Those other schools aren’t rolling in it either. So that’s moot.  Besides the tier one university listed, what do the others have in Common?

Listened to Nolan Richardson interview today and he said Coach Calipari came to Arkansas solely because of their NIL coffers and his focus will now be recruiting 23 year old 4+ season experienced players instead of the 17-18 year old one and done players.

If anything this is our differentiator. Seems like every school has complete roster turnover except for us. Shows what kind of guys and coaches we have in the program. They don’t want to leave. They don’t believe the grass is greener (for them) elsewhere.

Towson bball has a nice story of loyalty to rally around this campaign

I respect loyalty and if this is the plan then so be it.  I don’t see us winning the conference staying complacent with the entire roster.
Freshman bigs always take more time.  EG/Jazz Gardner at Nevada who was a 4 star recruit coming in.
Why not add a transfer big with experience to fill the void of CT?
