They could be 4 and 5 stars and he would still f it up. 58 points ain’t winning you games in march.
Idk Hofstra is gonna lose a lot, ne may have new coach and have been bad for a few years. Wm and Hampton new coaches.  Drexel losing a lot.  Stony Brook had a ton, like 6 of their top 7 as grad students. Elon will be better. Uncw will be uncw.  And Charleston well, they lose next to nothing. That core is full of juniors.
Obviously with portal is yet to be seen. But if I can bet 50k on us not making to the finals, we can get closer to getting this coach packing!

Fran Dunphy likely fired from La Salle after 2 seasons.  Here’s a move for you..  We snatch up his assistant John Cox who is Kobe’s cousin 😉

What’s even more disheartening is that there’s not much chance that help is coming through that door in the form of recruitment.

What’s the old Bill Parcels quote? “If you want me to cook the dinner, let me buy the groceries.”  Well, the groceries that Pat Skerry has been “buying” tend to be the leftovers and scraps from other programs and lately the groceries have been rotten.

How often is Towson a player’s first choice? Pat only recruits the players that he considers to be good fits for HIS preferred style of offense, which I think we all agree is a dreadful style of offense. So to think we’re going to magically get a slashing guard or high-flying explosive 3 or 4, probably not going to happen. I feel like we’re too often everyone’s “backup” school or fallback option.

If I’m a decent recruit and Pat is pitching me and my parents in my living room one of the first questions I would ask (after “how much will I make from NIL at Towson?”) would be, “hey Coach how many times have you taken Towson to the NCAA tournament?”

In the ruthless world of recruiting beggars can’t be choosers and right now I think Pat is more beggar than a chooser.

He’s had some solid recruits recently and we get Watson healthy for the 2024-2025 season.  I just think with his overall deficiency in development of players and X’s/O’s we need to add an assistant coach of some sorts and land a big time front court transfer or we may dip into the bottom of the CAA next season as the rest of bunch will be better.

If you want a Towson equivalent elsewhere in the country, head to the home of Corporal Klinger.  Toledo has had Tod Kowalczyk since 2010 and they've had 8 20-win seasons in his tenure there.  But in the MAC Tournament, that's where the terror happens.  They've at least made 3 conference championship games but they've gone into the last *4* conference tournaments as the 1 seed.  Today, as the 1 seed, they got whacked by Kent State, a team they had beaten by 14 & 15 in the regular season.  They extend their Tournament-less streak to 44 years (one of 61 schools who have not been there since we were last there, though almost half those have barely been in D1).

Just gave me a brilliant idea.  I can start dressing up like a woman, post pics and this message board will kick me out and hence ending my long tenure as a suffering Towson 🏀 fan.  Oh wait I live in San Francisco.. no one will buy it.   In Pat I trust until 2050!

  4. Little did I know that I had so many alums who don’t follow the team as close as all of us but they told me with 4 minutes left they were all making plans to take off yesterday and driving down to DC to be part of history.
Oh I see UMass Lowell is playing Saturday for the America East bid.
This loss of ours is gonna stick around all off season and I’m gonna take my anger out on our coaches not the players.
He praised his assistants week in and week out for good scouts and then the idea of going with 4 guards late against UNCW.
He obviously relies on them a great deal so who takes the fall for the 13-1 run blunder?
When Nick Siriani kept his job he fired assistants.  Can’t come back with same coaching staff for 2024-25.  If no money then let an assistant go and replace him with a graduate assistant.  These coaching staffs today run 7-8 deep.

I doubt that info is available to the general public. We need some guardian angels with deep pockets in the worst way

Pat is the head coach.  I don’t see us ever getting over the hump so next thought is buying a player or two who possibly can.  If we know who the top contributors are then we ask (beg) for NIL money.
I know at least “4” of the top contributors to USF basketball and they went out and bought Jonathan Mogbo (success) and Mike Sharajamts (bust)

2012 made a great point recently..  3 years left with this coach.   Then either sandbag and go with Juco/D2 players or go after a name of some sorts.  Let our fanbase and more importantly our top contributors know what the plan is.   P & L report etc.  Town Hall meeting.

  6. Next morning and still stings….  how could we piss that game away?  Thank you Charles Thompson for your 5 seasons.
Pat has gotta shake up his staff and add a coach or two.  He’s not falling but someone has to for that collapse last night.
Got more depressed last night watching all the other conference tournaments and seeing Cinderellas emerge.  Not going to get any easier in 2024-2025 knowing teams like Elon, A & T are gonna get better etc.  Lucy continues to yank that ball from us.  How much more can we take?  I shouldn’t be this angry with the coach cause before this game last night I thought he was on to something mentally with his comments leading up to the game with Charleston but then last night in the postgame he sounds like a guy who never had a plan and was talking tongue and cheek.  13-1 run!!!!

I wasn’t worried about Williamson possibly bolting, that is until he avg’d 15 or so ppg in the tournament. Hopefully, people don’t start whispering in his ear that he’s too good to stay here. Same concern with Tejada; not so much as to Lowery.

The concerning part, aside from our “coach for life,” is that that our limited NIL has to be split two ways: (1) to buy portal players; and (2) to retain existing players.

Jevon Porter of Pepperdine would be the ultimate get with his family ties to the NBA and his scoring ability but that’s not gonna happen.  We tried the D2 route but haven’t gotten lucky yet.  You gotta mix up the coaching staff and add a coach with some sort of recruiting chops up his sleeve.

I know the loss is still fresh in everyone's minds, but I wanted to take a second to thank you all for following my coverage of the team over the last three years, in whatever capacity it may have been. The constant engagement from you all kept me going and gave me a reason to continue covering the team in the way that I did.

I'm graduating in May so this is the last season I'll be covering them. I'll still be reporting on the transfer portal until then, but I won't be around nearly as much next season.

    Thanks,

    Jake

Appreciated all your insights and information.  You are in a rough business.  Have money saved up.  Follow David Simon on Twitter.
Watch every season and episode of the A-Team.  Don’t ever drink an old fashioned..  never ever.  Be glad you covered Pat Skerry and not Bobby Knight.

  9. We need NIL money to land any significant transfers going forward.  They aren’t coming to play for Pat knowing their stats will shrink playing in this offense.
I pray our trio stays but I’m gonna assume we lose at least of one of them as they want to move up the ranks.  We had that game tonight and we let them off the ropes.

A point guard needs to pass occasionally. He’s been around a long to time. If he’s back, if they want better efficiency, he should come off the bench.

Didn’t ever say he needed to start.  Just need him back in the rotation.   Can’t dump all these guys or it’s a total rebuild.
Tejada, D-Will, Lowery, May, Tarke & Suilamon core and then add better talent around them.  Let’s face it if we don’t add a legit Frontcourt veteran transfer that can score then we are a 12 win team next season.

Meanwhile, #7 Stony Brook about to advance to the final.

You just knew they would with us pissing away this game.  We are Towson.
Just when we think we are out they pull us back in.  Up 7 and I’m texting fellow alums that was are gonna win this.  We did it.  Fuck me this nightmare never ends.
Walk away Pat and give us a chance to win this decade please…. I beg of you.

Look, I’ve posed this question before, and I’ll do so again now…who would we want back next year from this team? The list is dwindling. IMHO, it’s down to Lowery, Tejada and Williamson. Can anyone truly say they enthusiastically want May back? Jones? Tarke? Suliaman? Coleman? Cole? (This one pains me, because I held out great hope for him, but no longer, at least not here).

Gotta want Tarke back.  Considering how his season started by the NCAA I thought he had a solid season for us.  He’s a glue guy and we can’t come back with no PG’s.
May led us in scoring this season and at times was really good defensively. Gotta bring him back.

I think it would be best for May if he had a change of scenery starting next season. It’s too simplistic to blame the loss on him, but his air ball epitomizes the futility of the Skerry era. What did he score in these 3 games, 10 points? And he was our leading scorer in the regular season.

Look, it is what it is. We will NEVER beat C of C in the conference tournament. They have a million dollar NIL war chest; we maybe have 1/10th of that. Even if Kelsey leaves for greener pastures, we are saddled with Skerry in perpetuity.

I’m reconciled to the fact we will not make the NCAA Tournament again in my lifetime

Barclays Center Suite deposit is gone.
At least the Spokane one was fully refundable.   Let me glance at the 2025 sites this evening.

Sorry for you especially to feel that way. You’ll change your tune in a day or two, mr positivity.

you had to listen to spiro?  And with that loss? That sounds like torture. Granted he is slightly better than Pete Gillan and bother are better than Smokey pastos but still three of the worst out there!

Spiro is great.  He’s a Towson broadcasting legend.  No need to go after him.
2012 you need to leave the state for a year and experience some positivity.  Nothing wrong with being positive about the alma mater we all love.
I don’t think Pat is the right guy going forward but I don’t make those decisions.  He’s gotten us back to respectability but now we need to go farther.

Got to beat Charleston to get to 20 and hang that 20 win banner that you all love so much!  I’ll be at Secu tomorrow before sun rises to help facilities with that, If the upset is pulled!

Bring your tool belt and take down that SECU sign first.   Those gravy trainers still profiting from us.  After we beat Charleston today the list of new potential arena sponsors will grow.  If only Pizza Palace was still around.
