If only the Baltimore Banner would show up!

Not sure if you have heard, but a controversial figure just purchased the Baltimore sun and it’s affiliates, the towson times, the Annapolis gazette…etc

The LA Times just cut their Dodgers beat writer and the team will not have one print newspaper writer for the first time ever.  LA Times has lost $30 million.  Not sure I would have ever believed this if you told me back in 1993 as a Mass Communications Major.

  2. PS said in the weekly report guys are required to shoot 100 foul shots and trying various other twists to fix our horrid free throw shooting.  Let’s pull our alumni funds together ASAP via Venmo and fly Rick Barry in from Colorado Springs.  $3k should do it.

The great imponderable is what might have been with Watson. I wonder if there’s any chance he plays this season? Even if he does, he’d have a lot of rust to knock off & I’m assuming he’d be on a pitch count. Also, what of continuity on the court with his teammates? He’s only 5 months removed from surgery, so I still don’t know how realistic him playing this season really is

Rule of thumb has always been 12-15 months for full recovery but I know for basketball players that time frame has been shortened.  Rishwain who played for USF and now FLA had ACL surgery last January and returned this past November.

I’d love to have Watson but I also don’t want him to end up like Leon Powe.  Everybody has their own timeline.

  4. Guthrie was such a great player off the bench for us.   He brought this energy and desire that has yet to be matched by any past or current Towson bench player.  Probably because of his maturity.. I believe he was already a Dad when he joined the team.

This season has started to come together because of Tarke coming on.   Remember how many of us were dismissing him as a so so player after his first game (Bryant I believe!?)  Man has he been great.

I’m just excited to have both Tejada and Lowery playing and contributing so much this season.  We really landed “2” Swiss Army type players.  Pat and staff get a “A” already for this freshman class this season.

If this team can shoot 40% or better from beyond the arc “consistently” and improve their foul shooting I think we can beat anyone in the CAA.  Time will tell.

And how much do we owe Mat for all the coverage this season and in the past.  I’m not in the area and rely on him so much for the insights.  Throw Jake into the mix now as well.

Tremendous coverage for the program which results in extensive criticism as well.. goes hand in hand.

Still got this feeling this particular group does something big in the CAA tournament. Tejada has always shown he wants the ball and he’s a gym rat 🐀 working on his game.
Maybe he’s what Carmelo was to Syracuse this season for us.   Or KD for Texas?
Not the same superstar players they are but a freshman who just willed us to win and changed our fortunes.  Time will tell!

  5. Hicks does matter.  He was made a captain before the season commenced.
So yes I’m gonna keep asking.  No man left behind.  If he was done I think PS would have told us in a report right!?  Wait I’m crazy..  he wouldn’t say a word.

We miss you Rahdir!  Get well soon.

  6. Tarke is 23-33 this season.  Not bad.
Any word on Captain Hicks if and when he can return?
And our opponents are now shooting 31% from the beyond the arc against us.  Last season it was 33%.  Credit to shoring up our perimeter defense which still needs work but yesterday I saw CofC put in spots they weren’t totally comfortable shooting from and that is the key.

  7. Campbell is 3-2 in CAA play.  Could easily come in and wreck us on Ravens day.
Imagine if this team had a healthy Watson.
So glad it has worked out for Tarke the Shark.
Assume they will be free throw shooting today once they return.  No excuses for a quick Saturday turnaround game.  4-2 or this message board will have a mutiny.

  8. Need to watch it back.  The general idea of free throw shooting is doing the same routine…  was Dylan mixing how many dribbles beforehand etc?!
At one point in the game we were 7-9 as a team and I stupidly mentioned it in the chat box.
Heck of a road win I’ll enjoy this evening but how big is the Campbell game now with no fans at the TU Arena.  These guys have to be mentally tough and play for themselves no matter the size of the crowd.

    10-8/3-2..  11-8/4-2…  make it happen!

  9. Kelsey turned his back on the state of Massachusetts and Skerry has never forgotten it.  Maybe a Chaney-Calipari like tussle post game would ignite PS the rest of the way.  We honestly need our head coach a bit more angry and curmudgeony like our fan base currently 😉

As we all grow older and fill up with more discontent for our current sports culture.. not liking another team etc is welcomed.

Oh where have our Bill Lanier’s of the sports world gone…. so sorely missed.  Maybe I’ll pick up a 6 pack of Miller Lite 🍻 for this evening’s contest.

  10. Game Day!!  Looks like 61 degrees game time temperature…

Last season NT went off for 34 points down at there place and we still lost by 8.

They are such a balanced scoring team and we can’t sleep on the Croatian.  CT has to play his best game of the season both ways for us to win and along with us shooting 45% or better from beyond the arc and we only miss 4-6 foul shots this evening.

Need a lot of breaks tonight and a facility delay would not be one of them.

    Goh Tigers!

Ripken saved me and my crew from some sort of bodily injury.  In spring of 97, we took our campus sports show to Camden Yards (shout out Bill Stetka) and we had our chairs down the RF line.   At one point, we caught on camera Cal and Tony Tarasco goofing around in the chairs.  A few minutes later, Cal comes up to us and says that he's going to be in big trouble in kangaroo court if anyone ever sees that video.  But then he got serious and said that we might want to move closer to the dugout because we're right in the line of fire if a lefty ropes one down the line.  We move our stuff and about 10 minutes later, Mo Vaughn is in the cage and he sends a rocket right about where we had been set up.

It's been 20+ years since I've been in Camden Yards and I'm way overdue to get back.  Games at Memorial Stadium (both football and baseball) were pretty fun with the right atmosphere but if it was a blazing summer day, it could get uncomfortable too.

Camden Yards opened in the Spring Semester of my freshman year so the anticipation was incredible being that it was the first ever cookie cutter stadium of its kind in that era and I also remember the WhiteSox redoing Comiskey but the old way which at the time made little sense knowing and seeing what was going on in Baltimore.  I saw Nolan Ryan with the Rangers pitch there although there was a rain delay which shortened his start if he even pitched at all that day.. can’t remember but I do remember his warm up routine.
I remember Brady Anderson and Boston fans in attendance chanting “Brady 88’” the entire game.   Tim Raines with the White Sox cursing at fans in left field for asking for his autograph ✍️ which was bizarre at the time guys at the ends of their career can either be gracious or assholes.
As a kid we’d take bus trips down from Philly to Memorial Stadium and I remember being so excited to see Wally Joyner play for the first time after all the hype etc.

Lastly and I’ve only done it twice in my life but I’m sure if I tried and the calendar guides aligned I could do more…

Every Spring my Dad would look at teams schedules and see if a “double dip” was possible..    Phillies-Orioles  Giants-A’s I’ve accomplished seeing both games the same day.

I had three chances to speak w Johnny U. 1st time in 1963 when I was 10, my dad spotted him as we were all coming out of church by Enoch-Pratt central library. He gave me a pen & paper and said to get his autograph. I ran to him walking by himself, and he gave me the signature.. 2nd time was 30 years later, when I was stacking canned food right by him at Bea Gatty's Thanksgiving dinner along McEderry St. He looked like he'd been through a war, and he pretty much had! Another autograph which I gave to my brother.. The final time was a Saturday evening football game at Minnegan stadium the time it was named after him. I was only about 9 seats away from behind his right shoulder. There was a throng of Tiger football fans surrounding him, and so I didn't wanna add to his being overwhelmed by one more. And then about three days later, he passed away. A Baltimore icon..

That is something.   Thanks for sharing.
I know the Tollgate Barber 💈 Shop guys told me Unitas and the rest of the Colts were using public transportation around town and were always accessible to the fans which makes sense since they all had off season jobs etc.   That goalpost from the 58’ game at Alonzo’s.. I always marveled at it.
Then I remember Ripken after he retired at Borders Books signing and he was so gracious to the kids with his time.

  13. Listening to Spiro yesterday during the delay and it reminded me how much I love hearing about all the Baltimore Sports teams.

Spiro said he spoke to Bill Belichick at Gillette Stadium 🥍  for 20 minutes about the 1975 Season as video coordinator for Ted Marchibroda.

I was there when Cal broke Gehrig’s streak in 95’.

I got to meet the great Tom Matte at Camden Yards and he told me how much he loved beating up my Eagles 🦅

    Colts/O’s/Bullets/Blast/etc
