And now UMASS is on board…at their place…because heaven forbid that a 3rd-rate A-10 team goes on the road anywhere. At least we’ll be fully tested when conference season begins. Football got to the final game on the back of a monster road record. It’s time for basketball to do the same.

One of the better suggestions I saw today, I think it was from the D1 schedule twitter guy, said how schools should schedule a home-and-home in-season series so they can each benefit and they fill 2 spots on the schedule rather than just 1. I'd imagine in future years with Pat not being able to get some of these other scaredy-cats to come to our place that this could be a potential solution. It's pretty dumb that we're gonna have to do so much road work in the non-con this season. Hopefully the price tags are decent.

    2022 General Football News

Jesus is a freak!! Gibbs makes Bruce Feldman’s list of biggest freaks in college football at #37. Since it’s behind a paywall, here’s the write-up: A transfer from South Carolina, 6-4, 260-pound Gibbs really impressed NFL scouts with his tape against North Dakota State, making plays all over the field. He also made five tackles and two TFLs against San Diego State. Injuries limited him to four games last season, but he was productive, making 15 tackles and three TFLs. In the offseason, Gibbs vertical-jumped 37 inches, got 10 feet in the broad jump and had a terrific 10-yard split of 1.58 seconds. He also bench pressed 400 pounds.

https://twitter.com/RTDjohnoconnor/status/1552298881098055680?s=20&t=vDa8bmEIoMfoqjKfQn8oeg Richmond could be a fun game. They are in need of 2 dates. Let’s make a deal.

Now THAT’S a good get on the schedule.

The Savannah tournament could help make up for a very blah non-con slate. All depends on which teams they put us with. But teams are so scared to play mids who might be decent and they sure as heck won’t play them at their place. Loyola and Morgan are just laughable. They’re insignificant in the overall landscape.

MLax thread for 2022 and 2023

I knew it was gonna be a long day when we gave up the first goal 20 seconds in and then the first time we tried a clear Brennan threw it over everyone's head. Not much you can really say about this one as Delaware played really well on defense and stopped whatever rotations and ball movement we tried. We just weren't quick enough offensively to generate any good looks or get runs at the goal. Brennan was a wagon in the 3rd quarter when we were killing off the penalties and he kept us in it. Only criticism I'd have is that their best player beat us on the same move 3 or 4 times and I'd have liked to have seen us rotate our best D on him to shadow. Maybe we did that in the 2nd half and I didn't notice it clearly enough. But we got neutralized pretty good at the offensive end and just didn't generate anything necessary to win.

    2022-23 Transfer Portal

I saw that tweet by Cam over the weekend where he said he was done dirty and he'd never forget it. Whatever 'it' was had better be something a lot more significant than bringing in someone of Sylla's skill. Because if it's about Sylla and Cam was worried about being 'the man', then I feel like that says a lot about his personality and a lot of it is in a negative light. It's hard to figure out what a lot of these athletes are thinking nowadays but this one is incredibly mindboggling.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/the-bold-new-college-basketball-flex-scheduling-model-that-would-bring-big-nonconference-games-into-february/ Hopefully, the CAA is one of the 22 leagues involved in these discussions. It would certainly spice up February basketball and probably allow us to avoid scheduling boring scrimmages for December non-con home games.
  10. Wonder if this was from the flagrant foul.

Just like he was 110% committed to us and URI huh

    2022-23 Transfer Portal

This one committed to Iowa State. As for Noah Locke....um, no. I don't think he'd ever come to us because he'd be looking for somewhere with more exposure. I also have the feeling that as a grad transfer looking to make one more impression for NBA scouts, he'll be looking more me-first than working something in the scope of an offense that is predicated on ball movement. He might be the kind of 3-point shooter we could certainly use but how much of that would come off of heroball?

LSU has all 11 potential returnees in the portal. Rough start for the new coach.

    2022-23 Transfer Portal

Wow, that's a big surprise. But he got hurt in early February and Temple had a couple of other youngsters in the fold that were able to take over the position with not much drop off. While he was a very blah shooter and also a questionable free throw shooter, he's a decent ballhandler (4+ assists per game) and can get into the lane to create. Hard to say what he'd be looking for given that he was a starter on a potential up-and-coming team in the AAC but in this portal era, who really knows anymore? I'd be in favor of kicking the tires on this one.

That's pretty much all sports, both college and pro, nowadays. Think of your favorite pro teams -- over the last 25 years, how many on your favorites have played their entire career for that one team? Outside of generational talents like Rodgers, Ovechkin, Crosby, Giannis (TBA), or Trout (also TBA), the days of guys playing their entire careers for one team are pretty much gone. If you can accept that as a fan and accept that it's happening in college sports too, then it makes it easier to overlook. Players are going to listen to the advice from the people who think the most positively for them and while if you're good enough, the League will find you, your chances of making it won't magically skyrocket because you go to a different team.

Parks would be an upgrade over Paar but I wouldn’t see him as a difference maker or someone that would start over CT.

Ummmm, I don’t think you would want to see them, especially if we have to go to Olean. We’d never see Richmond so no surprise that was a wrong post. Of the 2 seeds from that website, I’d go with aTm, VT, OU, Bonnies in the order of 2 seeds I’d want to face if I had a choice.

The basketball gods really hate us. And if you listen to some of the fans here, Wilmington's coach sucks. How else do you explain all those missed shots and poor rebounding?

    CAA Tournament Thread

Pretty rough charge call. I'd say that's what they've been calling all year and the players need to adjust but that was a straight-line drive to the basket and the secondary defender had no angle. No way Meeks is going to adjust his drive to the rack on that. @griggey20, did you see it?

Use that ignore feature, Mat. You'll be in a much better spot with it.

    Pain...

Like I said, it's been warranted in the past and I criticized him plenty in my end-of-season post last year. He changed things around in the offseason and found players and a new scheme that worked. His challenge will be to do the same thing for '22-'23 but newsflash, that's every coach, especially in this transfer portal era.

They serve plenty of a purpose. But you can say whatever you want in a timeout, in a practice, in a walk-through, in the locker room pregame until you're blue in the face and that's not going to automatically cause layups to drop and 3's to fall. I'm sorry that I'm not buying whatever you're selling. The scheme on offense was the best we've ever seen under Skerry and I cautioned about it in a past post from weeks ago that when you live by the outside shot, you're also going to die by it.

    Pain...

He has all season. If there were lineup decisions that didn't work in certain situations or gameplanning with defenses, presses, etc, then I'd certainly question those strategies. Nobody had it tonight and that's not anyone's fault -- not a coach, not a player, not an official. If Curry has a crap game in a season-ending playoff loss, are you going after Steve Kerr? Oh wait, he's won a championship so that's likely a bad example. But it also shows how much of a fallacy that argument is. If you want to cite past tournament history, that won't work either because it's always different players.

    Pain...

So the coach can just push buttons and the robots move into the correct spots?

    Pain...

Please enlighten the masses on how coaching plays a part in wide open shots not going down and open layups being missed. I'll hang up and listen...
