  1. I'd imagine Mr. Bard is going to find that trying to market Towson athletics will be very similar to marketing LaSalle athletics.  Just took a peek at LaSalle's hoops attendance figures from last year and they averaged 2100 for 16 home games with a high of 5800 for Villanova (most likely a large majority of Nova people).  Hopefully he can unlock some ideas that will attract people to SECU and Unitas this season and that the teams are successful enough to make people want to come back.

Thank you! All I said was Pat Skerry posts cheesy videos yet somehow the negative Nancy folk on this board read my comment as “Might be the only fanbase that would take a dump on winning a regular season championship and earning a ring for those efforts.”

sheesh find some joy in your lives people

My barb wasn't as a result of your comment.  Perhaps if we had won an Oscar...

Nothing wrong with promoting the fact that you won a ring and that we have a coach who is finally active on Twitter. Better to be cheesy than to be silent. Promote the hell out of the fact that we won the regular season title. If that gets more eyeballs on the team, it’s worth it.

All Towson coaches and athletic department members should be active on social media at least in terms of promoting the program and giving little insights.

Might be the only fanbase that would take a dump on winning a regular season championship and earning a ring for those efforts.

  4. The schedule on the Towson BB site says Mercer/South Alabama/TBA so the organizers haven't quite figured out who to put in that last slot.  I'm hoping it'll be either South Dakota State or Valpo/Evansville as one comes with a recent pedigree and the other comes from a highly-regarded conference.  Given that you have 2 teams from the same conference in this thing, I'd expect the latter.  Whatever they decide, leave JMU out of it.  I want to remember our last game against them as that thorough ass-kicking we gave them in the fake H-burg.

  5. And now UMASS is on board…at their place…because heaven forbid that a 3rd-rate A-10 team goes on the road anywhere.  At least we’ll be fully tested when conference season begins. Football got to the final game on the back of a monster road record.  It’s time for basketball to do the same.

  6. One of the better suggestions I saw today, I think it was from the D1 schedule twitter guy, said how schools should schedule a home-and-home in-season series so they can each benefit and they fill 2 spots on the schedule rather than just 1.  I'd imagine in future years with Pat not being able to get some of these other scaredy-cats to come to our place that this could be a potential solution.  It's pretty dumb that we're gonna have to do so much road work in the non-con this season.  Hopefully the price tags are decent.

  7. Jesus is a freak!!

Gibbs makes Bruce Feldman’s list of biggest freaks in college football at #37.  Since it’s behind a paywall, here’s the write-up:

A transfer from South Carolina, 6-4, 260-pound Gibbs really impressed NFL scouts with his tape against North Dakota State, making plays all over the field. He also made five tackles and two TFLs against San Diego State. Injuries limited him to four games last season, but he was productive, making 15 tackles and three TFLs. In the offseason, Gibbs vertical-jumped 37 inches, got 10 feet in the broad jump and had a terrific 10-yard split of 1.58 seconds. He also bench pressed 400 pounds.

  8. The Savannah tournament could help make up  for a very blah non-con slate.  All depends on which teams they put us with.  But teams are so scared to play mids who might be decent and they sure as heck won’t play them at their place.   Loyola and Morgan are just laughable.  They’re insignificant in the overall landscape.

  9. I knew it was gonna be a long day when we gave up the first goal 20 seconds in and then the first time we tried a clear Brennan threw it over everyone's head.  Not much you can really say about this one as Delaware played really well on defense and stopped whatever rotations and ball movement we tried.  We just weren't quick enough offensively to generate any good looks or get runs at the goal.  Brennan was a wagon in the 3rd quarter when we were killing off the penalties and he kept us in it.  Only criticism I'd have is that their best player beat us on the same move 3 or 4 times and I'd have liked to have seen us rotate our best D on him to shadow.  Maybe we did that in the 2nd half and I didn't notice it clearly enough.  But we got neutralized pretty good at the offensive end and just didn't generate anything necessary to win.

  10. I saw that tweet by Cam over the weekend where he said he was done dirty and he'd never forget it.  Whatever 'it' was had better be something a lot more significant than bringing in someone of Sylla's skill.  Because if it's about Sylla and Cam was worried about being 'the man', then I feel like that says a lot about his personality and a lot of it is in a negative light.  It's hard to figure out what a lot of these athletes are thinking nowadays but this one is incredibly mindboggling.

G Jeremiah Williams, 6-5, 185, Temple (from Chicago)

A 6-5 point guard. I'm sure Datres has an opinion on him. Three years left but poor 3 point shooter last season. Was 32% as a freshman.

This one committed to Iowa State.

As for Noah Locke....um, no.  I don't think he'd ever come to us because he'd be looking for somewhere with more exposure.  I also have the feeling that as a grad transfer looking to make one more impression for NBA scouts, he'll be looking more me-first than working something in the scope of an offense that is predicated on ball movement.  He might be the kind of 3-point shooter we could certainly use but how much of that would come off of heroball?

Wow, that's a big surprise.  But he got hurt in early February and Temple had a couple of other youngsters in the fold that were able to take over the position with not much drop off.  While he was a very blah shooter and also a questionable free throw shooter, he's a decent ballhandler (4+ assists per game) and can get into the lane to create.  Hard to say what he'd be looking for given that he was a starter on a potential up-and-coming team in the AAC but in this portal era, who really knows anymore?  I'd be in favor of kicking the tires on this one.

Are you really okay with rooting for the uniform, showing loyalty to a program...when the ones who represent that program have no loyalty? Certainly would cause most folks to think twice. They dont really represent what Towson University (or any university for that matter) stands for.

That's pretty much all sports, both college and pro, nowadays.  Think of your favorite pro teams -- over the last 25 years, how many on your favorites have played their entire career for that one team?  Outside of generational talents like Rodgers, Ovechkin, Crosby, Giannis (TBA), or Trout (also TBA), the days of guys playing their entire careers for one team are pretty much gone.  If you can accept that as a fan and accept that it's happening in college sports too, then it makes it easier to overlook.  Players are going to listen to the advice from the people who think the most positively for them and while if you're good enough, the League will find you, your chances of making it won't magically skyrocket because you go to a different team.

    Wouldn’t 2 seeds play 7 seeds?

    Give me St Bonaventure

Ummmm, I don’t think you would want to see them, especially if we have to go to Olean.  We’d never see Richmond so no surprise that was a wrong post.  Of the 2 seeds from that website, I’d go with aTm, VT, OU, Bonnies in the order of 2 seeds I’d want to face if I had a choice.
