Looks like we're starting another streak. Not going to say the sky is falling like last season when we started 0-4 in the CAA, but you can't blow a late 9-point lead against a bad ACC team on the road playing without their best player. Missed FTs, 1-15 from 3pt. All old issues creeping up. Hard to believe we were a 40% 3pt shooting team coming into this game.

But to me it's about the guards because we don't have inside scoring. Gorham on occasion but he's just too undersized to play center against most teams. Starr has been brutal the last two games. When he's good, we can beat anybody in the CAA. When he's like this, we're hoping for huge games from Zane and Morsell. Mike was 4-of-11 and 0-5 from 3pt. Starr was 1-5 and had 3 turnovers and one assist, including a horrific turnover off an inbounds right after he called timeout because nobody was open.

Martin had 20 pts and Tunstall had four blocks. Nobody else played well. I guess Gorham with 8pts and 8 rebs but he couldn't guard Brown, their 6-10 freshman.

Pathetic.  Really no other way to put it.  Let’s not forget all the 1-2 efforts at the free throw line throughout the game.  We got outmuscled...every time we got in the lane (minus the open Zane takes for layups), we went weak and couldn’t even draw a foul.  Thomas will get a 3-second violation someday on an offensive board because he can’t just go up strong for a slam.  Gotham, Tunstall, Eddie...they get it inside, it’s a circus adventure.  And I said it at halftime - Pitt was 1 of 16 from 3 and we were only up 3.  We get up 9 and do nothing to extend the lead further.  We’ve taken 3 steps back with this road trip and we have a week to correct it before showtime.

No real surprise at the final score though so disappointed at the end of the first half with two horrible turnovers leading to two layups. End of the game was just disappointing. Pitt did hit big shots and we didn't after numerous attempts. Starr is really pressing right now. He's not a great ISO player. Nobody really is on this team. Pitt took away Zane's lefty drive (finally) and forced him right. So what did he do when had a chance to finish a drive? Shot lefty going right and missed badly. That was just with around 30 secs left to tie. He also missed two FTs before that and a 3 to tie. And he was our best player tonight and usually is .

The good news is that Zane is a sophomore and will get better. I can't really speak for the four other seniors that get regular playing time.

Towson (10-3) guard Zane Martin finished with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor.

    TURNING POINT

Towson built a nine-point lead late in the first half, but Pitt scored twice with under a minute to go and made a 14-2 run on either side of the break to flip the game back into the Panthers' favor and set up a back-and-forth second half.

Towson: The Tigers haven't had to do a lot of self-evaluation after a loss this year, but they've dropped back-to-back games for the first time. Head coach Pat Skerry attributed the pair of close losses to quality opponents to a lack of attention to detail.

"Those are the type of things that I'm probably a little bit frustrated with, that I haven't gotten the message across to these guys," Skerry said. "If we get that message across, we'll be right in position to win our league. If we don't, the odds are you're going to have one of these types of heartbreaking losses."

Pitt: Defeated its toughest opponent of the season in the Tigers, who were ranked No. 35 in RPI coming into the game. The Panthers' previous best win was over No. 45 UC Santa Barbara. Pitt is ranked No. 182. Pitt's next four opponents are all inside the top 100.

    UP NEXT

Towson won't play again until they start CAA play with a visit to College of Charleston on Dec. 30. The Tigers will go 27 days without a home game during their current four-game road set.
