Questions about conference alignment

Recommended Posts

As things currently stand, there are 13 teams (for basketball) next season. Whether a14th school joins remains to be seen. Interestingly enough, there are 6 schools to our north (NE, Stony Brook, Hofstra, Monmouth, DE & Drexel) & 6 to our south (W&M, Hampton, NCA&T, UNCW, Elon and C of C). Assuming a 14th school doesn’t join, do we play 24 conference games next season? (2 vs each school). That’s a ton of conference games, and obviously reduces the number of OOC games. Or, is the conference divided into 2 divisions (North and South) for a total of say 18 conference games? (2 each vs the other 6 teams in your conference & 1 each vs the teams in the other conference).

Also, if it is N & S, which conference will we be in? And, if it stays at 13 schools (at least for next season) how do you do the conference tournament? A bye for 1-3 and 4-13 play, to eliminate 5 teams to get to 8, 4, 2, 1?

I think everyone is way over analyzing what a Conference tournament will look like. Whatever the number of teams will be they’ll figure it out. Any league with 13* teams has a double bye. Look at all the P5 schools. That’s what it’ll look like

Regardless of how many teams, everyone will not play the same teams the same amount of times. It will be unbalanced for sure.  20 conference games works for the power 6 but for a mid major, more games against average to poor teams hurts.
WCC still plays 16 to appease Gonzaga (sorry BAT).

we could be in either south or north, Depending on who the last add is. I woulda liked the adding to stop after Monmouth. 10 teams is a good number for the CAA.
