2023 Football Roster is out

Recommended Posts

I assume it's not complete, but some newcomers including transfers and freshmen (who were signed in Dec. and Feb.) have been added.

https://towsontigers.com/sports/football/roster?view=2

Transfers:

*OG Jaelin Montgomery (6-3, 310) r-soph JMU

*DB CJ McClendon (6-1, 180), Jr. NE Oklahoma A&M

*DL Daviyon Johnson (6-2, 310), grad, Monmouth

*LB Kemari Johnson (5-11, 185), grad, Del State

*LB Rodney Roane (6-2, 225), soph. Hutchinson CC

*DB Andre Stewart (6-0, 170), r-soph Kentucky

*TE Carter Runyon (6-6, 235), r-Jr., Shenandoah

*PK Justin Ritter (5-10, 210), Gr. JMU

*DB Antonio Howard (6-0, 185), Gr. Northern Michigan

*DB Jabari Reddock (5-11, 195), Gr., Northwestern State

*DL Mike Police (6-0, 305), Gr., West Florida

*LB Jakari Patterson (6-3, 210), Fr., Southern Illinois

*LB Nick Haynes (6-2, 180), Jr., Snow College

*RB Tyrell Green Jr., (6-0, 205), R-Jr. Fullerton College (Kenwood HS)

*DL Jurnee Dunbar (6-0, 305), Jr., Shepherd U.

*WR Christopher Chosen (6-0, 180), Jr, TCU

Still a bit concerned that they have just one OL transfer in Matthews from JMU. The Green pickup at RB is a big one. He can play. Also, HUGE NEWS. Freshman All-American LT Dan Volpe (6-6, 320) is now back on the team after leaving for Duke after last season. Feel that they still need a tight end and another backup QB, just in case Brown or Scott Smith don't work out (I assume it will be Brown, but who knows?).

Media Day is Tuesday, July 25. Not sure there will be a ton of great quotes, but hopefully something interesting comes out of it.

RB Tyrell Greene is a local Baltimore running back (Kenwood) who could be one of the best newcomers of this first transfer class for Pete Shinnick. Not a lot of P5 players, but we've had plenty in the past and that didn't work out that great. I would think that Greene along with Curtis Murray (Maine), who was underused last season, will be the top two backs in a system where running will be less important than in years past. In fact, it might be more similar to when the late great Phil Albert ran a run-and-shoot type of offense with Sean Schaefer tossing short and intermediate passes all over the field. At least, that's what should happen according to the past exploits of Shinnock's offense at West Florida and OC Brian Sheppard at Stetson and VMI. Though last season at West Florida, there was much more balance. In 2019, when they won the D2 title, they threw for 281 yards and rushed for just 131 yards per game. When Sheppard was at Stetson in 2022, they had the top passing offense in the Pioneer League (PFL) with 295.9 yards in the air per game, including the PFL Freshman Offensive Player of the Year, who was also second in the conference with 245.6 total yards per offense a game.

So, here are the new transfers this season that I think can make an immediate impact as a starter or rotation player:

K/P Caden Wiliams (West Fla.)

DL Mike Police (West Fla.)

DB Andre Stewart (Kentucky)

WR Christopher Chosen (TCU)

DL RJ Evans (Ark-Pine Bluff)

TE Carter Runyoun (Shepherd U.)

LB/Bandit Jakari Patterson (Southern Illinois)

CB Justin Toler (Norfolk State)

DL Tylen Wallace (Missouri State)

QB Sean Brown (Liberty)

RB Tyrell Greene Jr. (Fullerton College)

P/K Justin Ritter (JMU)

OL Jaelin Montgomery (JMU)

LB Kemari Jackson (Del State)

DB Mike Swain (Campbell)

Freshmen to watch:

WR Rishon Holmes (former QB, 6-1, 210)

DL Rion Roseborough (6-2, 315)

QB Jack Pellicciotti (6-2, 205 from Liberty HS)

Holmes is technically the only redshirt freshman on the roster. Volpe played last season as a true freshman.
