Tgr4life Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Night and Day from early season. Once these players run, ....it is about as good as I have seen Towson play in over a decade. Once they slow it down.......problems occur. To give them their due, it was actually fun to watch last night. 2 Quote

Look at his non-conference shooting and his conference shooting. His overall shooting is at 36% FG/28% 3pt/64% FT. In conference, he's averaging 13ppg, 52%/48%/57.1%. Only the free throw shooting has suffered. His only bad game off the bench was when he went 0-6 and 0-3(3pt) against Stony Brook. Towson now has three players averaging over double digits. That doesn't sound like much but last season, we barely had anybody over 10 points per game. Lowery also with 21 blocks overall (1 per game) and apparently had two tonight (thought he had 3-4). But he's a potential performer on all-defensive team. Tarke for 6th man of the year as long as he keeps playing well off the bench. Yes, Lowery should start over Sulaiman, who is the fourth-leading scorer at 7.2ppg, but like to see him rebound more (3.7) in 20mpg. Tarke being efficient and not taking bad threes and wild drives has led this teams turn around. Contributions from everyone last night, especially guys doing things they normally don't do (Hicks hitting a 3, Lowery FT, Samb putting the ball in the bucket) Road wins are tough. Conference road games are more tough. Our games at Matthews are extremely tough. 7-1 is nice, but to already play at TD, Trask, DAC and Matthews and go 3-1 there, is very impressive. Have to give credit there. Playing with pace and tempo early last night was a breath of fresh air. It worked and the game was won because of the points off NE turnovers. They work so hard for a shot, and switch a lot on defense, its finally nice to get some free, easy buckets when showing some actual pressure. Shooting was fantastic, but scares me a bit that they will fall in love with them. Won't shoot 50% from three nightly. The had a graphic that Towson was 21-0 in their last 21 games when making 10 3 pointers... As I have quoted Charlie Eckman before.....there are 2 plays.. South Pacific and put the ball in the basket.. Confidence helps, but you have to continue to put the ball in the basket. Quote
Tiger93 Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 It is great to have games where we can get two players cooking like Tejada and Williamson were last night. Between Tejada, Williamson, and Tarke they were 21-34 with 62 points on the night (9-11 from 3, which will not be duplicated again). Very similar to the Drexel game where those three combined to score 67 points on 25-42 (7-10 3pt FG between Williamson and Tarke). Who would have guessed that we would have had two big road games where the offense overwhelmed a solid home team to get the victory. I feel like 2021-22 was the only time we saw any of these type of victories, and I don't know if I remember hot shooting like this. I was also impressed with some of the defensive pressure as others have mentioned. We had six steals in the first half (felt like they call came early in the half), and Tarke finished with five on the night. We didn't even need our customary offensive rebounds, because we made so many shots. We have gone back and forth on if all of the guys coming back were quality experience or quantity experience. Some of these games where Williamson and Tejada have shot well have definitely shown quantity. I think I am repeating this, but since going to the bench Tarke is averaging 15.7 ppg on 52.6% shooting in an average of 26.8 minutes per game. I know some of this is just for appearances, but Skerry seems to have a good read on the players since they all returned and has made some good adjustments in conference play. To me the next game tells a big story. I want to see this team show some consistency and back up what they did last night with a similar effort against Delaware, a program that we have had our moments against recently but has also made us look bad at times. 3 Quote
