mat1992 Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=548065&vislive=tows Towson improved to 16-9 and 11-1 in the CAA after a 73-67 road win over Monmouth on Saturday, who dropped to 6-6 in the league. UNCW beat Drexel in double overtime today, which means they remain in second place at 10-2, but William & Mary lost to the Tigers' next opponent in Delaware to drop to 8-4. That means Campbell and Charleston are now tied at 8-3 for third place. Tyler Tejada returned home with 17 points including two big free throws in the end. Dylan Williamson added 14 and four assists (4 TOs), while Christian May contributed 13 points, but more importantly, great defense on Abdi Bashir (came in averaging around 21ppg), who had 19 points on 7 of 23 shooting. Towson outrebounded the Hawks 40-32 and shot 11 of 27 from beyond the arc (42%) and 10 of 11 from the line. Here is PS after the game on TT.com. "Great team win. Monmouth well coached. This atmosphere was like playing at UNCW or Charleston. REason why they are playing well at home. We guarded and rebounded well. Had a lot of guys making unselfish plays. Samb gave us good minutes. Lowery solid, Tarke solid. Tyler made two big ones. Dylan quarterbacking. CMay just guards so well.. He's the best defensive player in our conference. The work he did on Luster and Bashir was a spectacular job. Great win. We have to go back. Brave weather. Big week at home coming up." 1 Quote
TuTigers2012 Posted February 8 Report Posted February 8 They continue to find a way to find a way! 10 straight is the longest since the early 90s teams?? 3 Quote
mat1992 Posted February 9 Author Report Posted February 9 Tied for the third-longest in school history. I assume this counts D2 days. https://towsontigers.com/news/2017/12/10/mens-basketball-inside-towsons-10-game-winning-streak 1 1 Quote
mat1992 Posted February 9 Author Report Posted February 9 So, let's talk about this team and I can harp on a million different things, but I'll try and keep it positive. *This team lost six straight games in Nov-Dec. and nobody thought we'd be at this point, winning 10 straight and going 11-1 in the league. Credit to the team and coaching staff, while I'm not sure who the leader is vocally (assume Tomiwa is one), on the floor, Jones and Sulaiman set the example, going after loose balls, drawing charges, setting screens, etc. *Tejada had a nice bounce-back game from his home state though I still wonder if he was 100% (had no rebounds), but did shoot 6 of 12 and 3 of 6 from 3pt with 17 pts. CMay was big today on defense and made 5 of 10. I thought Cornelius Robinson did a nice job in DWIll, who was 5 of 12 (some tough angle misses on layups), did not get to the line and had four turnovers, but was 4 of 7 from 3pt range and had five rebounds and four assists. *The "others" showed up. Nenada Tarke had a good all-around game, but had just 10 points on 2-of-5 shooting (1-3 3pt, 5-6 FT). But he did have 9 rebounds and two assists. So having May score 13 points and Sulaiman score 8 pts on 2 big 3s, including a corner three from Dylan late in the game, was crucial. *Even if I thought the CAA was down this season, it's ranked 15th overall, which isn't bad. That's because teams like Campbell, Elon, W&M and even Monmouth (6-6) are no longer walk overs. I thought this was one of the best wins of the year because the Hawks won 19 of 20 at home, the crowd was pumped and let's face it, everyone is going to be pumped to beat us. Same with Delaware. As PS might say, that this is going to be their Super Bowl and possibly their last game against us for a long time. Certainly their last trip to TU/SECU Arena for a long time. *With 10 players, I always get worried when a guy goes down with a nagging injury. Fortunately, Lowery bounced back and MJones was ok after his ankle nearly got rolled up. *Even with the snow coming, it should be cleared by Thursday. Need a big crowd for this 11-1 team. I want to double check some of the stats later. 3 Quote
Bay Area Tiger Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 Some silly turnovers in second half but this team keeps winning and our 1-2 punch is putting that ball in the hole. Can’t look past any games of course but Campbell to me on the road will be our ultimate test before DC. That team is hot and I think will really match up well against us. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s them and us on March 11th but I digress. Bracketology update early next week and my guy says Seattle now ☕️ so I can pay off my bet 😉 Quote
mat1992 Posted February 9 Author Report Posted February 9 This basically put the game away (kind of) 1 Quote

Towson moves to first place in the nation! Seriously, we should now be in the mid-major top 25. 2 Quote
