2020 Transfer thread

Recommended Posts

This is a thread for ideas and speculation about who might be coming here next season. Or who we’d like to see that’s in the transfer portal.

I’ll start with QB Artur Sitkowski from Rutgers . At 6-5, 230 he sounds more like Jeff Miller but can move some.

Pass on that guy.  He’s been A complete bust at Rutgers!

True but not much around him. Threw for 300 yards against BC. He wouldn’t be my first choice but will be one of many FBS QBs, who could transfer down to FCS.

Caylin Newton was another QB who I mentioned in another thread.

I'm going to try and build up a list of players in recent days and hopefully a review of the 2019 season. Here what I think the priority is in terms of order of importance for positions where we need transfers.

1)Quarterback. (lose Flacco, return Stover, Miller, and Tristan Harris).
2)Running back. (lose Yeedee, Kobe Young returns for junior season; Shane S. might return for senior season)
3)Outside linebacker/pass rusher/edge setter. (Assuming we stay in a 3-4, John Lambert, and Malik Tyne are gone. I recommend moving Quashon Alexander to OLB,
3)Cornerback (lose Shuman and Gillette-Rodgers; Jeremiah Wynn looks legit, not so sure about sophomores to be Jirhe Love and Robert Javier)
4)Inside linebacker (lose Robert Heyward and Keon Paye; return Christian Dixon and most likely Ricky DeBerry; need more speed and awareness to cover tight ends and running backs)
5)Wide receiver (lose Shane Leatherbury; could lose a dynamic playmaker)
6)Tight end (lose Chris Clark, but Jason Epps looks like he can hold the fort for his senior season).
7)Safety (could always improve there; Tippett is a senior but sophomore Jamal Gay tore his ACL and returns so he's likely to compete with Steven Brown or Tippett)

Jacksonville University just announced that they are dissolving their football program.  Wonder if there's any talent that can be picked up from that roster?  Haven't looked to see if there are any kids with Maryland ties on that team......maybe some decent sized OL?

Here is their roster. Always sad to see something like that happen. Tough on the families, coaches and players.

We don't really need big offensive linemen. We have those. Corners, receivers, running backs. They have a few guys from New York and Virginia. I believe those guys won't have to sit out as transfers since their school is discontinuing the program. Seems like they played an option-style offense. That's not easy to adjust to but I would look at this guy:

Now personally, I'd rather have an experienced QB like Newton. But here's another 6-0 quarterback who is available with three years left.
