2022-23 Transfer Portal

Recommended Posts

If you recruit a kid and he does well at our level, there’s a good chance he’s going to kick you to the curb, for perceived greener pastures. If you recruit a kid who doesn’t play a lot of minutes, he’s going to leave, in hopes of finding someplace to showcase himself. So what do you do? Cut back on HS kids, in favor of focusing on the portal? Even then, portal guys aren’t necessarily going to stick around either, as we’re seeing guys on their 3rd school.

I would cut back on HS kids. I think we're doing that with two fall signings. Last year, we took too many. We probably could have added one more player for depth purposes.

G Jeremiah Williams, 6-5, 185, Temple (from Chicago)

A 6-5 point guard. I'm sure Datres has an opinion on him. Three years left but poor 3 point shooter last season. Was 32% as a freshman.

Wow, that's a big surprise.  But he got hurt in early February and Temple had a couple of other youngsters in the fold that were able to take over the position with not much drop off.  While he was a very blah shooter and also a questionable free throw shooter, he's a decent ballhandler (4+ assists per game) and can get into the lane to create.  Hard to say what he'd be looking for given that he was a starter on a potential up-and-coming team in the AAC but in this portal era, who really knows anymore?  I'd be in favor of kicking the tires on this one.
