How is this possible?

September polls are laughable.  I wouldn't get too wrapped up in any of it.  If they keep winning, people will notice.  If they drop the next one against the Citadel, what will it matter anyway?  So, no sense in getting bent out of shape right now.

Misconception,  the longer we are kept out the harder the fight we have to get into the top ten and the potential ramifications the polls have with the committee. Every poll means something at the fcs level. That’s why Nova is still ranked after a loss to an Unranked Towson

If we lose to The Citadel after this, we don't belong period. And they aren't that bad. They lost to then No. 10 Wofford by just 7 points on the road. Don't love having the bye this early in the season, which means you can sometimes come out flat. If we can use this as motivation to come out with renewed energy with a hopefully big crowd, then hopefully it helps. But rankings aren't meaningless. Not in college football at this level.

Meh, not the end of the world. If we beat The Citadel we'll be ranked after week 5.

Fortunatelywe are in a conference that gives us the opportunity to play ranked teams every week.   However, fighting up hill in the polls all year has playoff implications.

The HERO rankings are beyond absurd -- Morgan, at 0-3 and a team we beat by 26 points, is placed 17 spots above us. And yet, the douche bags who put the rankings together claim they're based on "an objective, predictive, data-driven ranking algorithm."

That conference statement also works in our favor for when we play out-of-conference games. If we beat a team like The Citadel, people watching go, "Makes sense, they're in a stronger conference." We get a win, the profile of the conference is raised slightly more, which then increases the clout of our conference wins, thus raising our profile, thus raising our conference's profile, and the cycle goes on. It's gotten to a point where it's basically guaranteed that a CAA team will make it in if they go 8-3. That's why I don't really mind not being ranked early on.

History does bears out that the CAA is a multiple bid league, which should work in our favor. I agree that 8-3 gets us into the playoffs, though I’m skeptical 7-4 gets us in,even though New Hampshire will make the playoffs at 7-4, or even 6-5.

So, at least at this early juncture of the season, the polls, IMHO, aren’t relevant. Bottom line...take care of our business & finish 8-3 (far from a given, but room for optimism after last Saturday) & we’re virtually guaranteed to make the playoffs, which is all that matters in the end.
