Yes. We are on the upward caa part of the skerry cycle. There will be a quick drop, losing a game or two to bad teams, then a slight uptick again right before the tournament, that gives everyone some false sense of hope. Only to crash down in an epic collapse in March. Agree. Was shocked when I saw the box score and play by play. He has been dreadful this season so it’s gotta be a good feeling for him to have a very solid game for once. winning on the road is tough and even more so at the DAC. So yesterday was a very good win in that respect. Again, I really like this schedule that they have. Can they take advantage? The last two games scoring 76 and 80 are the outliers on the season. This team is closer to the 62 ppg team the first 14 games of the year than the close to 80 one. Though I feel we are more in the 67-69 point per game range.3 points

I’ll give credit where credit is due. Tonight’s game is usually the type we lose. Instead it was UNCW who yakked a 7 point lead with a little over 3 minutes left. If you would have told me before the game that DWill and TT would combine for 9-38 shooting, I would have told you we would lose by 30. Go figure. Credit to Hicks, Samb, who had a nice little spurt in the first half, and, to all people, Tarke, who actually made a few plays. Let’s temper this though with the fact that UNCW is not the same team as last year, when Trazarian (sp) White was tearing up the CAA (he’s now getting paid quite handsomely to avg 10 ppg for TCU). Also, as alluded to earlier, our shooting was woeful. Anyway, take the W and on to C of C. Frankly, no matter what happens in Charleston, the road trip is already a success. Forgot to mention that Suliaman was a bad man on that put back dunk3 points

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=550192 In a game that set offensive basketball back about 60 years, Towson found a way to beat Stony Brook 53-49 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 5-1 in the CAA. The Tigers were down once again in the first half by six (25-19) despite shooting 3-of-22 from the three-point line and 12-of-23 (52.2%) from the free throw line, beat the Seawolves, who made 12 of 12 from the line, but just 5-of-22 from three-point range (0-7 2nd half). Mekhi Lowery led the way with 13 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Christian May, who is still struggling with his shot (2-8 FG) held CJ Luster (15ppg) to two points in 19 minutes.2 points

I'm not upset about being 5-1. Don't get me wrong. I'll take it and It's fine. I just don't like the way we're playing. It's not even just boring. It's maddening to watch. We've had to come back in every game to win a close games. I guess the fact that we complained about losing so many close games a couple of seasons ago doesn't really hold with this squad, so I'll give them credit for having intestinal fortitude in conference play. T But we shouldn't need to come back from nine down or whatever it was in the 2nd half to beat freakin' Stony Brook at home. I wasn't surprised that we barely won today, but a bit surprised we put up 54 points against a dreadful defense. And we were so much better at Drexel on offense at a tough place to play and playing like this today against a bad team makes no sense. If we're playing like this in late February, we're not going to be in first or second place or fourth. This is a bad league. We need to take advantage. Charleston is winning games but they aren't playing a lot of D. W&M will play UNCW on Monday at 1pm or watching the repeat if it's on Flor. Will be DVRing that since I'm not off. That's a big one. Are they for real? Tough place to play (except for us). Also, we're in mid-January and it feels that this season has gone on for years. That might be just me because I was sick for about a month and missed the UMBC game (awful). We are certainly playing a bit better since non-conference though I think we played our asses off in Canada w/o TT and CMay. Just couldn't get over the hump.2 points

You're lucky you didn't have to watch that dreck. Really, 5-1 is nice, but it's not enjoyable basketball when we can't put the ball through the hoop. I'll take Drexel and NE wins with slightly better D. It's a lot more fun to win 75-70 than 54-50. And I'll agree with 2012 that this type of basketball won't work for 3 days in D.C. And I don't just mean today's awful offensive display. They have to start playing better basketball. I get that you can't play a perfect basketball game for 40 minutes. How about a strong 25? I'd also like to see more intensity. We have a lot of calm guys. That's fine for winning games late but how about starting out with some passion? We've had 2,000 people and 2,600 people without students in the last two home games. It's not Charleston but it beats the NE crowd last week. A decent crowd should have you amped to play the game no matter who you're playing. Didn't see that even against Hofstra. You don't have to shoot 50% from the field to dive on the floor for a 50-50 ball. It's why I constantly complain about starting Hicks and falling in a hole early. It's not that he doesn't hustle. He just can't shoot. Let's take a look at the numbers. In 15mpg, he's averaging 2.7ppg, 1.0apg, 31.7% FG, 25% 3pt (9-36) and has gone to the line just 3 times. Has 11 turnovers in 19 games. To his credit, he has stayed healthy.2 points

What a comeback! Great team win, it’s gonna take all 10 guys contributing positively to make it work. Hats off to a gritty win, dagger clutch 3 by Dylan, best game of Messiah Jones’ time here, Mekhi making big blocks, Tyler knocking down shots. Also hats off to Dr. Eigenbrot who was personally handing out free slices of pizza to students and fans at the game last light. Faculty and staff were treated to free tickets and a Jimmy’s famous seafood truck! Great win for the program to build off of2 points

Nice win on "national" tv last night. Stayed in the fight while Hofstra couldn't miss in the first half. Big shots and free throws down the stretch which we all have seen us not convert in the past. This team will continue to be a head scratcher and even though I bitch and moan about this program from time to time it always feels good to win.2 points

Still trying to process this win after seeing a lot of playoff football today. These last two wins were not Skerry-like. Winning games where the offense shined and the defense was not good has not been the formula. But it's good that we can score 80 points against NE and 93 points in 45 minutes at Drexel, who had one of the best defenses (statistically) in the nation. I'll be honest, while I like a solid defense, I'm weary of rock fights. Watching us average 86.5 points per game in the last two games is a pleasant change. When Dylan plays that well offensively, Towson is tough to beat. I still like them to push the pace when he's on the floor. Starting Hicks in the second half is not the answer because I know he's going to start against Hofstra. You don't want to get down 6 points (as we did today) because the start of the 2nd half usually sets the tone for the rest of the game. I also think, aside from the defensive mistakes, it's a team that PS is trying to figure out. Even though Lowery struggled today, if you play him 12 minutes, you're risking that kind of shaky defense. But you can also have more shooters when Sulaiman gives you something from the perimeter along with Tejada and Williamson. May, despite today's 1 for 5, has shot the ball better in conference play (7 for 16 3pt). I thought the rebounding (43-31) helped make up for some defensive deficiencies though you can't keep allowing the opponent to shoot over 40% (41.7%) from three and 47% from the field. Tejada showed today, despite some lapses defensively and other stuff, that he can do more than shoot. Grabbing nine boards was huge and at 6-9, 220, there's no reason why he can't grab 5-6 per game. If he went to the offensive glass, he'd be able to score a bit more and I know in a way, he's trying to become more valuable. Every college player is now looking for NIL, whether it's here or elsewhere. TT is going to make some nice coin next season. As for Tarke, he's never been a strong 3-point shooter. His best season was 33.3% at Coppin State. I don't expect him to shoot that number this season, but I do expect him to attack the rim and get to the line, even if he's a meh FT shooter (67.5% this year, 70%) last season. That's a lot better than he shot at Coppin. Defend, rebound, attack downhill and make a trey or two with better shot selection is fine. And the key? Come off the bench. Tarke has been great the last two games coming off the bench. He's playing more minutes than he did as a starter. The team is still a bit perplexing, but they are 3-1 in the CAA. That's a lot better than a lot of folks on here thought they'd be after a bad non-conference slate. Season Stats Rank POINTS/G 66.2 52 FG % 40.3 48 3PT % 28.5 232 points

PS says “we have to get Nendah going.” Has he watched the guy? He throws up brick threes and drives rather than dish off, always in hopes of drawing a foul. But more often than not, the shot is a miss and the opponent is going the other way. After watching him for a season and a half, I think we all agree that there’s no “there” there.2 points

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=548362&vislive=tows Tomiwa Sulaiman slammed home an offensive rebound with 32 seconds left to lead Towson over UNCW 65-61 in overtime on Thursday night. Towson starts conference play at 1-0 and improved to 6-8 on the season. Tyler Tejada led the Tigers with 21 points. They'll now face Charleston on the road on Saturday at 2pm. Some comments from Pat Skerry after the game on TowsonTigers.com "That's a good team. Well coached. Could have gone either way. Proud of our guys effort. Rebounded and defended it well. Didn't have our best night shooting it. Played against a lot of big teams. That kid Obioha was terrific tonight (for UNCW). Great plays. Big rebounding numbers. May and Sulaiman. Back to playing Towson basketball. " On Sulaiman's dunk "Top 10 Tiger basket of all time. Suliaman with dunk follow." Tejada likes the moment showed it late." "I still know we can shoot the ball better than we're shooting it. Samb and Hicks all night helped us. Abdou was tremendous in the first half. Hicks good minutes all around. Great program win. Great team win. Everyone tried to bury us. Didn't realize we were seeds"2 points

I know the past doesn't necessarily matter here, but we have won four of the last five the last three seasons and nine of 11 against UNC-W (they had a bad stretch before Takayo Siddle took over after being really good before that). I am not optimistic from what I have seen so far from Towson, but crappy non-conference followed by solid to good conference play has been the pattern for Skerry the last two years. We need to figure out something with this offense, but with the combination of our talent and a weak conference I still expect us to a top 4-5 team in conference play. That is still very disappointing when you line it up with some of the preseason expectations (I don't know if I really ever fully bought into those). I wouldn't feel great about it, but I would take the 5.5 points and Towson tonight. I would absolutely take the under 137.5, because these teams seems to mostly produce rock fights. I expect to see a solid performance tonight.2 points

Nothing I saw in person today was any different than what I’ve seen on TV. At least this time, we made the right defensive plays to hang on to the lead. The offensive end in the last 2 minutes was typically awful and some of the shot selection overall was worthy of an immediate benching. Tarke should never take another shot unless it’s a wide open layup. I’ve never seen a D1 player hit all glass on a 12-foot pullup in the lane. Nice to be off the schneid and I wish I could make more home games cuz I’m 5-0 in TU Arena.2 points

Well, a W is a W is a W I did learn something by watching the game today. I always thought Tarke’s first name was Nendah, but every time he threw up a brick today, the announcer said the shooter was “way off the mark,” so I guess his name is actually Way off the mark Tarke. Onto the “real season” starting on January 2nd. I can’t see us winning more than 8 games in conference, but hey, I’d love to be proven wrong2 points

Stony Brook has a lot to figure out because it's such a different team than last season's. Delaware pulled away from the Seawolves last night as Joe Octave was SBU's top scorer (23 on 18 FG attempts, including 1-6 3FG). Blue Hens W 84-74 ft. 45 DEL 2H pts and 20 by Niels Lane, 19 by John Camden. CJ Luster is another guard to know on SBU; he was at 5 pts at halftime last night but was 3-3 3FG in the second half to help him hit 20 pts total. I expect Towson to hold Stony Brook below 70 tomorrow. Physicality will emerge favoring TU, I presume. Talk about vast differences in returners and program continuity right now.1 point

I was working another basketball game last night at the same time so I didn't get to watch, but I was tracking as best I could. I saw that Hofstra shot 17-24 in the first half and 6-9 from 3-point range, and it reminded me of the Charleston game last year at home where they annihilated us . Looked like we got some good momentum at the end of the first half to set up the second-half comeback. Amazing that Hofstra could shoot so well in one half, and then go 7-28 and 1-14 from three in the second half. Tarke is now 15-24 FG the last two games. He seems like he has been more efficient lately, and I am sure they have worked on that with him. I do think at heart, his style is much like Russell Westbrook in that he can carry a team to victory or defeat depending on what version you get. However, there is no arguing that he plays his ass off and is a pain the ass to face for the opposition. As was mentioned, ti looked like a very efficient game for Messiah Jones with 12 points on 4-6 FG, three offensive rebounds in only 16 minutes. It was a little bit of an aberration to get 68 bench points against Drexel because of the hot shooting of Williamson and Tarke, but getting 27 of 65 last night isn't bad. I know it is kind of a magic shell game, and not that useful of a stat. It almost feels like that lineup is a good-luck charm or gimmick more than anything else, but you can argue so far they have mostly held their own at the start of games before the subs have come into the game, and after that it is more about the rotations than the actual starting lineup. Especially when May and Hicks play 19 and five minutes respectively for the game. Last night the bench players actually played 103 of the 200 minutes. It is still so early, but the league is taking an interesting shape. We know Charleston will be in the mix for a conference title, but the loss to Monmouth their last time out and the struggles with Campbell in their last two games were interesting. I heard good things about William & Mary's coaching hire this season and with the blowout win at Hofstra and a win against Elon they are off to a good start. They also avoided a banana peel game last night. Elon also looked good in the non-conference play, and they grabbed the same road win we did last Saturday in a little more decisive fashion. There is a lot of mediocrity in the conference, and Skerry has done a pretty solid job of understanding and navigating this conference the last three years. Hopefully, we can get to 6-1 with wins over Stony Brook and NC A&T (nothing is a given for anyone) before we travel to this program's house of horrors at Northeastern.1 point

New look to the board. Very nice. Nice comeback last night. We are typically on the other end of a 18 point blown lead, so it was nice to be on the other side for once. Coming out flat every game to start is a recipe for disaster. That first half may have been the worst defense half I've seen from this program in a decade or so. Hofstra was carving us up and every screen led to layup, dunk, or a wide open shot. Adjustments were made at halftime, and it showed. Tejada seems to be the only consistent player that we have that is capable of 10+ a night. Williamson, Tarke, May are hit or miss. Clutch free throws by Embeya. That was a good officiating crew for our style. Can we get them every Thursday game?? Momentum changer with the late steal and score by Jones at the buzzer. Is Pat allergic to running OOB sets? Honestly we have run some decent ones in the past and actually scored on them. Seems like we just chuck it deep to the outlet, without even running anything. Can the let down be avoided tomorrow? Should be a good crowd, but as we have seen before in the past, they overlook some of the teams with a "poor" record..1 point

Strange game in the sense that we played poorly in the 1st half vs a team missing 2 starters who avg a combined 24 ppg. Then in the second half we scored 50 points (I know, inconceivable) and out scored them by 14. Stranger even more so considering we had 3 starters (Suliman, Jones and Hicks) who combined for a total of 9 points, and Tejada had a “meh” game, to put it charitably. Kudos to May, with 17 points, double digit rebounds and 5 assists. Now, can he build off this or revert back to a 6ppg guy? And kudos to of all people, Tarke, who I thought had a helluva game. Embeya and Lowery got off to disastrous starts, but both came on at the end. Generally, when they are on the floor, you’re basically playing 1 or 2 men short on the offensive end. Announced attendance 1,050, which is accurate, if you counted each person at the game twice. Troubling that we let this guy Frankel on NE, who came in avg 2.8 ppg, score 16. Bottom line, take the W and move on, but this team has so many limitations and flaws that there’s precious little margin for error. Let’s see what happens Saturday in Philly, vs a Drexel team that has no impressive W’s and lost to Bryant, who we beat. If we’re somehow going to challenge for a top-4 finish in the conference, this upcoming game vs Drexel is the kind we need to win1 point

Look, it was crucial to get a 1-1 split on the road trip and they got the job done. But there are some worrisome things about this team. This season, we are shooting 39.3% from the field and 29.6% from three-point range. Last season, we shot 42.3% from the field and 32.3% from three-point range. It's interesting how the defensive field goal percentage numbers are almost the same as last year (42.5% to 42% last year; 32.8% 3pt defense this season and last year). Only key loss was Charles Thompson and it would be understandable to lose something, either on the defensive end. Here is where the loss is key. Not that Charles was a great finisher, but we have almost zero low post game right now. He was also 250 pounds and could could position with ease. So while still drive the ball some, as we did today, it's tough to get to the line w/o that big guy. BTW, Tejada should post up more. Maybe he'd get to the line more. When you look at 2 point shooting, were making around 45%, which is 353rd in the nation and allowing around 48% (150th). Last season, we shot 47% from 2 (315th) and allowed teams to shoot 47.4% from 2 point range (62nd). So the interior defense was a little better last season, which is why we should play Embeya as much as possible. He's not a rim protector yet, but is getting there. But we really miss Charles' passing and his screening. That helped players like May and Williamson get easier shots. Now, they are struggling to get open or create space. When they do get open, they are not making them regularly. Not going to go through every player, but May led the team in scoring last season despite shooting just 38.9% from the field (44.8% 2pt) and 61.8% from the line. Now, he's shooting 30.5% from the field, 22.9 from 3pt, and 35.3% from 2 point for a 6.6ppg. Is there a correlation of CT not being around and May struggling? I think there is some, but not to the extent where he'd struggle this bad after last season's tough performance in the CAAT. DWill averaged 10.2 ppg on 40.3% shooting from the field, 33.8% from 3pt, and 46.3% from 2pt last year. This season? He's averaging 12ppg, 37% from the field and 37% from three-point range. In 15 games, he's also gotten to the line just 32 times, making 22 (68.89%). Even worse, he's shooting just 39.2% from 3-point range. That a 7% difference from last season. The best two-point shooters on the team? Tejada (48.1%), Lowery (49%), Jones (54%), Embeya (51%), and Sulaiman (46%). To score, you have to get the points the old fashioned way, but without a decent low post player, it's not easy. Lowery has become the best low-post player. He's not Hakeem in his prime, but he basically backs in smaller players and tries to get to his right hand to shoot a jump hook. Whatever it takes. Need to be more creative with what's working and go with the strengths instead of waiting for other guys to get hot. You can only go so much to Tyler before defenses just attempt to suffocate him and then forcing him to take tough shots. It's kind of backwards of where the game is right now. It is certainly not about taking a ton of twos, but that's where we are at this point. Doesn't mean everyone will continue to miss shots at this rate, because if that doesn't turn around, making the semifinals would be a very difficult task. But it's not just about taking more twos, it's about being more efficient and making them. I'd also be lying if I didn't think was a difficult team to watch when they are playing like this, which has been the norm offensively most of the season. The margin for error on defense is very slim when guys are shooting this poorly. It's not that they don't play hard. They do. But you need to execute offensively and I'm at my wit's end seeing more than a handful of horrific possessions each game where we jack up something with 1 second on the shot clock.1 point

No advantage on the boards (35-35). I thought Caleb Embeya did an outstanding job on Brzovic. He shot just 4 of 12 from the field (8-8 FT). When Jones was on him, it was over. He just spun and got to his left with ease. Had to foul or double which took place late. Caleb also had 10 boards. I think the offense is kind of like Lowery, a luxury, though he has more skills. Hopefully with 10 or so more pounds, he'll score some down low next season. Defense was odd. We gave up three easy transition baskets early on. Then some open threes and more layups. Defense was atrocious for the first 15 minutes But they shot just 7 of 23 in the second half. But they shot just 7 of 23 in the second half. There's no margin for error against that team. You can't play 25 minutes of defense because the offense can't dig us out of a hole. Thought Lowery played well and bounced back from last game. Had 10 points, six rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, steal.1 point

Yeah, if I went by last night, I would say Hicks deserves it over Mekhi, who had a bad game (0-4 FG, 4 rebs, 1 TO, 1 block in 17 minutes). Normally, he stuffs the box score even if he doesn't score much but he missed about three puppies last night and should have dunked over Obioha. Also think a faster pace would help him but alas.... But when we play a team with big guards like Northeastern, there's no reason not to start him either at the 1 or 3. The center position is a problem. Was a major concern over the summer and still is. Fortunately, there are not a lot of great bigs in this conference, but there's no way Obioha goes off if CT is in there. Even Chase Paar defends him better because he was nearly as big (6-10, 260). Not a Paar fan, as most here know, but I thought when he left we'd upgrade the position not knowing Samb was the guy to replace him. And as I've said earlier, I just want Samb to defend and rebound. Set a decent screen.1 point

Honestly in my first game back after missing the UMBC game due to illness, it was more of a sigh of relief than a "look out now CAA". You can't win games against UNCW and Charleston when you consistently shoot 25% from 3-point range and have very little post game. The good thing was while there was a near-repeat of Robert Morris, we didn't blow two leads. Merely a small five-point halftime lead, which again, I could feel was tenuous at best with the way were playing down the stretch. We rebounded and defended just enough down the stretch and won despite making OUR LAST FIELD GOAL at 2:50 on a Williamson drive. Then DWill missed a jumper, Lowery missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Tejada missed a 3, DWill TO near the Bryant bench, Tejada 1 of 2 from the line, Sulaiman 2 of 2 from the line. I thought PS overcoached a bit at the end of the half, going offense and defense in the last minute or so, taking Williamson and Tejada out for Hicks and Lowery or Tarke. At the end of the game, he did the same thing, but this time, no Tarke. Hicks instead and was able to get Williamson in for offense. You just don't want Tarke on the floor late in games on offense and I might say the same thing about May until he gets his game together. Of all people, Sulaiman helped win this game with that key steal up just two points and then hitting his two FTs. Sounds simple but he didn't seem overwhelmed by the moment like others. Now, if you want to improve the 29.3% three-point percentage and 39.4% field goal percentage: 1)Push the ball as much as possible off of misses. Even though Towson had just 7 fastbreak points, I thought May had two easy baskets because they pushed it as well as a Tejada three of the break. Williamson has to be stronger with the ball in traffic but I'd rather see him drive than just sit at the 3-point line. 2)Tarke should never take a three unless it's a last-second heave in the shotclock. Lowery never takes a three. He understands that it's not in his bag. Tarke needs to get that as well. He's a defender/driver. Sulaiman should be limited to 1-2 shots a game unless it's a corner 3. Needs to take more shots in the low post. Today, showed a few up-and-under moves that I've haven't seen with any consistency. 3)Tejada, Williamson and May should take 75% of three-point shots. Period. It's a team you probably have to overcoach with nine suitable (sort of) players but who is reliable right now? Top Five *Lowery: 6.7ppg, 6.3rpg, 0.9bpg, 0.9spg, 50% FG. strong defender (negative: 45.2% FT.). *Williamson: 12.9ppg, 2.3rpg, 1.8apg, 42.4% FG, 41.2% 3pg, 75.2% FG (negative: 19 TOs to 23 assists, not great defender) *Tejada: (7gp out of 13). 16.9ppg, 43% FG, 30.6% 3pt, 79.2% FG, (negative: 4 RPG, 5 assists, below average defender) *Tomiwa Sulaiman: 7.7ppg, 41.1% FG, 36.6% 3pt, (made against Penn State-WB), 1spg, 68.8% FT (4rpg after today's 11 boards., 16 TOs) *Messiah Jones: 4.2ppg, 3.7rpg, 46.5% FG (2-9 3pt), 76.5% FT (17 TOs, 3 blocks) *************************************************************************** *Christian May: 6.2ppg, 4.4rpg (negatives: 29.2% FG, 5-26 3pt, 60% FT) *Caleb Embeya: 4.2ppg, 3.5rpg, 53.7% FG, 11 steals (negatives: just 4 blocks including 2 today, 11-21 FT) *Nendah Tarke: 9.8ppg, 4.8rpg, 17 steals (negatives 27.3% FG, 19% 3pt, 19 TOs to 21 assists) *Rahdhir Hicks: 3.7ppg, 8 TOs (negatives 33.9% FG, 26.5% 3pt) *Adou Samb: 1.8ppg, 1.9rpg, 10.9mpg, 6 for 6 from the line!!! Bad news is that UNCW is on Jan. 2 and Charleston is on Jan. 4 away from home. Good news is that they have a long break and need a few R&R off for the holidays and then some practice time.1 point

Of the many things I would like to see Skerry held accountable for, this isn’t one of them. As Patsos said on tv, it’s not our fault that Bryant’s best player was out. How many games have we played this season without Tejada? Would we have lost today, if Bryant’s best player had played? Probably, but then again maybe their 2 leading scorers today would not have been as involved had that guy played. In any event, on to the Carolina 2-step to open conference play. Good thing we got a easy start 🥹1 point

Went to the Penn St WB game (which they barely won against a Div II team) but that's it for this year for MBB for me.. And 2B honest, I'm tired of turning my attention to MLax when MBB fails, only to then turn my attention to Football when MLax fails, only to then turn... Done ! For the foreseeable future anyway, DONE!!1 point
