Epic Collapse: What will Tim Leonard Do?

Recommended Posts

Following the 2017 season Tim Leonard sat Rob Ambrose down and forced him to make staff changes.  This was the 4th straight year that the Tigers missed the NCAA Playoffs.

The 2018 season got off to a great start at 6-1. That was a little deceiving in that ALL of those teams have losing records.

Game 8 of the year saw Towson blow a 15 point lead on the road to Delaware, giving up 34 second half points with their first CAA loss of the year.

Game 9 of the year saw Towson drop a 35-28 game to nationally ranked Maine on Homecoming punctuated by a brutal play calling & game management display inside the Black Bear 8 yard line inside of a minute to go.

Game 10 next week will be on the road at Elon, a team which is 6-2 overall and ranked #6 in the nation.

Game 11 is back at home against a limping JMU team that turned the ball over 6 times and got popped today at New Hampshire.  JMU has Rhode Island next weekend at home and then comes to Towson and likely will need to win both to make it back to the playoffs after playing for in the title game the last two years.

Rob Ambrose's contract runs through the 2020 season, or two more years... Ambrose Contract Extension Story / Baltimore Sun

The Tigers have not been back to the playoffs since 2013, missing in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and likely now, in 2018

IF YOU ARE TIM LEONARD, and the Tigers LOSE THE LAST FOUR GAMES OF THE SEASON, what is your play?

A. Do you eat the last two years of the contract and start over with a new staff?

B. Do you bring Rob Ambrose & all staff back and hope for the best in 2019?

C. Do you force even more staff changes? (Finally get rid of Little Brother)

D. Something else... __________________________________

Ridiculous play calling. As I asked rhetorically on a different thread, how do none of the last 3 plays on the goal line involve a RPO for Flacco?

Well, the playoffs are all but out of the question. 5th straight year. And the beat goes on

For at least the last two years, we've been unable to pound the ball into the end zone from inside the 5. Why Jared continues to ignore this fact and tried three straight runs into that wall is maddening. The other problem -- it's been apparent all season long -- is the defense getting gashed for long gainers. We finally started putting pressure on Ferguson in the second half, which allowed us to get back in the game, but stopped coming with blitzes in Maine's game-winning drive. It's as if Hachmann never left.

I hate to say it, but Maine was the better team today, and they were better coached.

Agree play calling on the last two offensive plays and time management was brutal.  Still the offense has scored 64 points in the last two games. The defense looks a step or two slow. You don't think a win at Elon give us a shot at the playoffs?

Even a W vs Elon (unlikely, but hey, we can dare to dream) doesn’t get us in, IMHO, unless we follow that up with a W vs JMU. I realize this isn’t the Vad Lee JMU team, but they have a big receiver named Stapleton who will probably catch 10-15 passes by himself on our D.
