Towson/Delaware game suspended

Recommended Posts

I saw someone mention, and I know it's far-fetched, how the humidity in the arena compared to the below-freezing weather outside maybe had something to do with the floor issues, though it was sticky in some spots and slippery in others. Maybe it was the combination of the dryness of the air and whatever solution they used on the floor. Either way, they have to figure that crap out so it never happens again, because it was an embarrassment for the school and the program.

This is truly something.  Was working and a fellow alum texted me the game was suspended etc.

Was it a packed house tonight?  Our damn luck.
Well I’ve only heard of the multipurpose arenas where the ice under the hardwood floor caused a cancellation.

Hopefully Painter isn’t seriously hurt.
When we make the dance and CBS does the story on this Towson team they will have a ton to discuss that may intrigue the rest of the country…  our PG becomes a father and then has health issues we are still trying to figure out.  We have a player that returns after an Achilles tear.  A player who loses his grandmother after playing the game of his life.  Our coach who started the whole Autism Awareness in college basketball.   A fan base that hasn’t been to the dance in 30+ years.  Probably throw in a Elaine from Seinfeld reference.
For sure calling us Townsend State etc.

Drexel Saturday and may I suggest an actual “toga party” at SECU to reverse our current negative press!

Go Towson Tigers..   more and more looking like a story book season!

Mr negative over here but this cannot happen. Yes it does from time to time but usually places where they have ice underneath the surface. During my time at Towson the facilities management and interns were not “top tier” to say the least. Most enjoyed a big lunch and napping in their TC offices.  It should be better now!
We can’t have kids or interns doing the mops under the hoops. That’s always been a gripe with me as 75% of the time they are on their phones or not paying attention. I don’t know what that solution is as you can’t pay people? I don’t know but that needs to be fixed.

nick slipped a few times early on and kept looking at his shoes.  In my mind nick falls a lot so i didn’t think much of it.
why didn’t the refs come over to someone and wipe the court during time outs.? Why not at half?  The ball was dropped in this one.

could it be from the soccer team that plays there?  I feel like Astro turf needs some type of adhesive under it to stick so it won’t bunch up. Describing it as sticky and slippery is just polar opposite adjectives that makes it seem like something big

as far the the tc court.. hopefully we don’t need to use that.  It used to be (presume still is) slightly raised over the rubber court and there used to be so many dead spots on it

Trying to think back when the floor mops were introduced and used every game?  Mat would remember better than me..  early 90’s I think it was just a student with a towel that would run over and wipe up.. no one stationed behind the basket.
Always been kids or young adults doing the job.
Wonder what the protocol is to approve the court conditions to play tomorrow?  CAA representative have to be present and inspect?

Maybe a call should be made to the floor manufacturer to make sure that the proper cleanser was used. Not to even suggest this was done, but sometimes when purchases are made, a generic brand is ordered as the price is generally lower. Often times the products are not precisely the same and therefore react differently to the floor on which they are applied. Certainly seems to be worth checking out. That would also be valuable in regard to any insurance claims.

When I first heard it I was like how does the roof leak in a brand new building? Seems like that was not the case but condensation? Still kind of hard to tell from the write-ups what the players actually slipped on.

Whoever is in charge of the building needs to get in touch with the court people and the builders ASAP. I'm assuming some type of insurance would pay to fix this unless it's just our floor mopping people are that incompetent and it was just a cleaning issue.

  • Check the mopping/cleaning agent and process
  • What was the humidity/temp outside vs in? Call an HVAC expert before anyone else touches that court. WBB using the floor today is a bad idea. Hope no one gets hurt.
  • We are owed a full explanation for this not the lack of 'game suspended for unsafe conditions BS'. When I saw the twitters updates then nothing for like an hour I was concerned something way more serious happen.
  • Use the TC until this gets sorted

A small part of me thinks this is TL's final revenge. Like when MW left we found out he drastically overspent on marketing and f-ed the dept financially. Is this the cause of TL trying to save money due to all the covid increases in costs and cutting budget on facilities? It would not shock me one bit. Regardless something is very wrong with Towson athletics culturally...and has been for years. Turning around the culture has to be the first priority of the new AD.  You have too many people working within the department that clearly don't give an f about trying to get Towson to reach our potential. New AD must root that out and I realize it very will be very hard at a public institution to fire people.

It is inexcusable and should not happen. I get that the point of message boards are to speculate and second-guess, but directing criticisms at specific areas without knowing all of the facts and basing them on people or parts of the department we might suspect is somewhat unfair. I would think we will get more information sometime soon, and we can direct our blame and comments once we have more information.

This probably could happen to anyone, but the reaction to this at the half and before this when players are dropping like flies is where I had a big issue with. Even the refs share a slight blame by not telling those in charge to get it fixed.
