NC A&T is no gimme. Ask Hofstra.

They bust their asses all year learning two new sets of plays each week. Another minute or so doesn’t hurt in games like that

100% agree with this. When we are crushing Monmouth and Hofstra give the bench guys more time. I hate when they come in with 25 seconds left just to hold the ball.....Get them in with 3 minutes left from time to time.

Gotta love this guy showing love for our squad. Wish we had 100 of him

They have been playing well of late and have a few guys who can score. It’ll be a tough matchup. But the next 4 are very important if they have top 3rd of league aspirations

For some reason last year and this year Hofstra seems to bring out the best in Towson. This was a game we had to have to even consider ourselves among the top teams in the conference and as Skerry said it was probably our best performance since UMass. I feel like this was the first time all year I have seen Cam happy and bringing really good energy to the game. If he is in this state of mind, and these guys and can keep figuring out how to play with each other I do think this is can still be a highly successful conference season. I think the William & Mary win over UNC-Wilmington also gave us a glimpse that second place in the conference is up for grabs between several teams. I really loved how the team dug in defensively against Hofstra after falling behind 13-3. Towson gave up 13 points in the first 4:20 of the game and 34 points over the next 35:40. It was the lowest point total by Hofstra this year, beating the 48 that they were held to against St. Mary's. it was also their lowest point total since 2019 in a game. Part of it was that they were ice cold, but I also thought particularly from about the 15 to 5 minute mark in the first half Towson was flying around on offense, and it felt like whoever was on the court brought that intensity. As Skerry has said, this needs to be out identity the rest of the year. I have seen a lot of praise for Russell and I completely agree. He has been the steadiest (not best) player on the court all year. His effort never waves, even when his shot does. It was good to see Cam be more decisive on offense. I know he is going to make some bad decisions from time to time, but as long as he is decisive I think we can live with this. What was tough when they were struggling was he seemed to be having a crisis confidence and indecision was causing bad play. All around a great team game, and the way I want to see this team bring it on a nightly basis win or lose (easier said then done). Now, we have to bring that same effort on Thursday in what feels like it could be a trap game. NC A&T is third in points per game and three-point percentage in conference games. If we don't bring that same intensity on Thursday, this could easily be a lose. Very encouraged by yesterday's effort, and hoping it leads to a good winning streak. With road games against NC A&T and Elon, and home games against Northeastern and William & Mary, we should be favorites in our next four games before the rematch with Hofstra. This will be a test of whether this team has found itself and can be consistent, or if we continue on the roller coaster ride this season has been at times.

in the post game presser Holden (not prompted by a question) started a sentence with "when Jason comes back..." so who knows maybe he is closer than we think

After reading your post, I read up on that Willis Reed game. Game 7 of the NBA Finals vs the Wilt Chamberlain Lakers. Reed was injured during the series, but the crowd went wild when Reed hobbled onto court for pregame warmups. He only scored 4 points and grabbed 3 boards, but his gutsy performance inspired the Knicks to go onto win the game and the championship. I dunno, I don’t see Gibson hobbling onto the court vs C of C in the conference title game, hitting a 3, and inspiring his teammates to cutting down the nets. But we can dream. Turning back to reality, will Gibson opt for a medical redshirt season and come back next year, if he’s physically capable?

Clemson is 7-0 in the ACC and makes me wonder if we win that game does that losing streak ever happen? Great effort today and makes for a fun trip to NC now. Spiro & Jimmy mentioned they didn’t think Gibby is coming back but what a story this would all make if he shows up in March and gives us that Willis Reed lift for the CAA tournament.

Astute catch - I too agree w TT2012 & tu_fan - wondered why those bench warmers dont get more end-of-game time.. Too early 2B sure, but itz possibe Conway could set some TU 3-pt records before he's through, passing Raul dePablo, Gary Neal, Devon Boyd, #11 and any other who's who of the Tiger's 3-point World..

I wish we would recruit AND sign players like Conway. The "knock" on him was his defense, but he seems ok to me on D, and he's the best shooter we've had for some time - amazing he is hitting around 50% of his 3's, hitting at the highest percentage I can ever remember (including folks like Neal, Four, Josh Thornton). 4 was a good shooter, but had a slow release, and we had no guard play to speak of, so he rarely had open looks. The staff really should focus more on snipers and teach them D, rather than going to the default option of a wing that are generally challenged offensively. Conway adds an element of excitement we have lacked and Hicks provides much needed handling and D. It's a decent duo, but just once, I'd like an Estrada, Jenkins, Thornton, Riller, etc., that are POY type offensive studs...

Watching the replay on Flo. Just saw that sweet fast break dunk by May, off the feed from NT. Patsos, who did the color on the game, was effusive in his praise for May-thinks he’s going to be really good.

https://towsontigers.com/news/2023/1/16/mens-basketball-holden-scores-his-1-000th-career-point-mens-basketball-defeats-hofstra-68-47-on-monday.aspx Comments coming up. Cam and Nic did talk after the game. Interesting comments. As Pat said after the Monmouth game, this is how this team has to play. Physical, tough defense, hopefully, limit the wide open threes (not great today but better) and make a great player like Estrada work by putting bigger players like Russell and May on him. Thought Russell was fantastic for stretches today on both ends. He had 12 rebounds and 8 points on 3-of-5 shooting in 27 minutes. I still think he's a 25 minute or less guy, but today against Estrada, they needed him to play more minutes. I thought May is improving defensively and played Estrada pretty well.

Not there yet but getting closer. pretty good defensive effort after the first 4 minutes of the game. Hofstra can score and we held them down. Pride missed a bunch of wide open looks. Cam getting the ball deep in the post rather than playing with back to the basket from 15 feet out, is much better. Decent ball movement at times and solid rebounding. Nick caught fire for a 5 minute stretch.

Woe is me. Uncw fans are the worst and most spoiled in the league (now that Jmu moved on).
